  • Learn how to spin beehive coils in this video. I'm core spinning this special yarn to combine the amazing merino wool and recycled silk fibers that I had to work with. I spun up a lustrous wool and silk core spun base and scattered black beehives along the way. Grab a warm mug of cider and join me as I spin this autumn color inspired core spun beehive coils yarn.

    The fiber featured in this video is “Autumn” 23 Micron Merino, “Raven” 23 Micron Merino, Unbleached Tussah Silk, and “Citrus” Sari silk waste roving. All the fiber came from Camaj (Not Sponsored or Affiliate)

    The book featured in this video that inspired this yarn is Spin Art: Mastering the Craft of Spinning Textured Yarn by Jacey Boggs, Interweave Press. It can be purchased reasonably for Kindle, but I think the actual book is now possibly out of print? The Kindle version can be found on Amazon here amzn.to/32DYGYP (affiliate link)
    If you are looking for a good yarn to use as a core for a core spun yarn, I recommend mohair. These links are for a mohair/silk yarn that works well for core spinning.

    I find I'm not generally a fan of art yarn, but I am absolutely overcome by how beautiful this technique is! I mean, my jaw dropped multiple times. I'm sure it would take me many hours of hard work to make it look so clean. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work with us!

    Videos

    Very thorough. I’ve been spinning again for 3
    1/2 years. I’ve only mastered fingering and sock yarn. This is what I want to do for Tour De Fleece this year! I’m sure glad I watched your video before attempting it. Also, I love how you are always so put together! It makes me feel like I’m getting
    A lesson just for me and you bare enough to put effort into everything! … yourself, your wool, your location and background in your house-everything! Thank you so much. I’m just wondering if you’re close to me. I live in northern Iowa. Also, what, if any, wool festivals are you going to this summer? ❤️👍😊🐑🪡🦙🐏🧶

    Will you be my spirit animal!? I just love your video! So happy I came across it! Kudos to pushing your Ashford Elizabeth; I did the same thing with my Ash Trad. (Poor thing, it’s a sturdy thing). I’ve tried to do this technique and I chicken out a few beehives in. I especially love your textured core.

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  4 года назад +1

      Haha! Thank you! Those Ashfords are work horses aren't they? I have made all different sizes of beehives including some very tiny ones as big as my fingernail. As long as the base yarn is small enough to give contrast they look awesome. Don't chicken out, go for it! 😊

    Hi JillianEve, I am subscribed to you channel! I really enjoy your videos. I would like to learn to do art yarn, thick in part and unusual yarn combos, etc... And I would like to use the tools you are using. Could you do a tutorial on how to pick a carding drum, brushes, mat and spinning tools. What works for you? What do you like? Thank you so much. I really appreciate it! Keep making beauty! Thank you again.

    Do you have a video explaining further on why you add a twist into the core and the balancing of it, I watched a video of someone mentioning they twist all their manufactured yarns and I got confused. Thank you

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  2 года назад +1

      You can add twist to the core that is then removed while corresponding the other direction. The goal is to have a corespun yarn that isn't so energized. 💜🧶

    That’s so pretty. What are you going to make with the yarn?

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  4 года назад +1

      I haven't decided yet. This kind of yarn works well woven into cloth, but it also works well when it is knit or crocheted with an extra large hook or needles. What would you do with it? I think I could also tie the skein nice and securely and just wear the skein itself as a cowl. Hmm.....

    • @sharonwaddell2548
      @sharonwaddell2548 4 года назад

      JillianEve I see it incorporated into a weaving, either as part of a tapestry, or saori type wall hanging. I recently purchased a rigid heddle loom, and your creation would look fabulous as part of a scarf or shawl.
