  • I'm core spinning yarn with beehive coils and cocoons plied with thread to create pops of color and texture. You can use just about any add-in with this core spinning technique including nylon, silk, bamboo, locks, sparkles and more. You don’t need a drum carder or any other fancy fiber prep equipment for this core spinning technique! This yarn has a big impact and looks great woven, crocheted, or knit with oversize needles. The fiber I used for this tutorial was provided in a collaboration from *The Golden Threads.
    The Golden Threads is a small business providing fiber products to artists. Ali Ritter, owner of the Golden Threads, sources wool from small farms, then cleans and dyes the fiber by hand. Ali loves turning raw fiber into colorful, fun materials for other artists to use. The fiber can be spun into yarn or used for other art projects. Ali makes locks, fibers, rolags, and batts, as well as handspun yarn, arts yarns, and woven products.

    Such an EXCELLENT tutorial. I understood it ALL and have been doing this with my Kick Spindle and top whirl spindle. Yes, it IS possible on a drop spindle, you just have to take your time. 🙂 Thank You!!

    Hello I love this video...is there a way to describe the thickness of your core yarn?? I looks very thin but I cannot tell how thin???

      I should try some skinny corespinning. Maybe use a thread for a core? 🤔 I honestly think the double drive is more of an issue than the oriface diameter.

    can something be done out of this kind of yarn? can you knit or crochet with it?

    What do you mean (towards the end) when you say "the core was pre-twisted" before you started the spin? How would I prepare a core?

    I just received my jumbo flyer. I can’t wait to try core-spinning. What projects will you make from this? I would love to see the finished product.

      This spin was for The Golden Threads so it will be in their shop when I get all the core spinning done. I'm doing a livestream later today and I will show some of my "art yarn" finished objects.

    Evie, would it be possible to use the core fiber/yarn itself to run back and forth over a cocoon section instead of having to deal with that extra thread in your hand?

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  2 года назад +2

      Yes, that's a method I've seen called a "scribble" technique. Play around and have fun! If you love your yarn in the end, it's not wrong! 😊🧶💕

    What in the world do you use this yarn for? I can't imagine knitting with it. Just curious!! You are amazing!!

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  3 года назад

      This yarn is awesome in weaving! You can knit and crochet with it too if you use a very large gauge hook/needles. It's also really neat in macrame. 🧶💕

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  4 года назад

      Yes, it can be done on a spindle! I haven't done it personally, though. ❤
