Brisbane by far separated themselves as the best team in the league by the end of the finals. The lions being top 5 at attacking and defending was on full display all finals, they kicked 4-8 unopposed goals against Carlton, GWS, Geelong, and Sydney, they showed they can score and defend at will. Funny how commentators change with the wind. A few months ago most were writing off Chris Fagan as too old, game plan poor, players not interested etc. Now he's a master coach. The difference between coach and commentators is strategic knowledge and understanding players. Most commentators Buck's excluded, have no idea how to coach, limited strategy understanding but carry on as if they are super coaches. If you were strategic geniuses you would be coaching at the coal face with other commentators telling you how hopeless as a coach you are. Thankfully those with real knowledge of the game become coaches and the hacks settle for media roles where they can play goose without being sacked for poor performance.
the big mouths are the biggest after-the-fact pundits. So easy to criticize and supercoach after the game. They''d never hack it in the coaches box and would NEVER have the necessary relationships with players.
It was always gonna be somewhat unfair to single out individual moments, and thusly, the culprits from Sydney involved in those moments...but such is life eh? Cop your whack Brodie. And Ollie. And Dean. And Errol. The rest should consider themselves lucky to be spared
Yeah it’s almost like there’s a thing called home ground advantage? Not that an interstate team will ever get to enjoy that in a GF regardless if they finish on top of the ladder
Except at stoppages, the ability to pressure depends on space availability. Sydney is used to narrower ovals. So of course their pressure drops at the MCG. Their GF hoodoo is simply due to being familiar with narrower defending patterns and less space to run into.
Sydney got exposed for being soft two years ago. Instead of learning to be ruthless and uncompromising like Geelong were, they talked to a female sports psychologist and learned how to check in with each other 😂😂
