Thanks Jack for the great visit, We had a quite a chat and you let my boy Jeffrey sit up front with you while you changed the horses for our cookie run. We are from Ontario. I just bought myself an Amish Buggy, it is an old fashion Amish buggy, I will restore it to the best of my ability...very proud to own it...God Bless You and your Family Jack!
My stepfather was Amish and grew up outside Lancaster, PA. Though I have no desire to emulate him. I sometimes long for a simpler life. In many ways my life is quite simple.
Having a simpler life can no doubt be a struggle at times, but through struggles you learn to have patience, contentment, kindness...etc. Not being as heavily involved with technology lets your dependence on people rise and your relationships with friends and family grow.
I think the world would have been better off without all the technology we have. I think Simple is better and less stressful. My Respect goes to the Amish folks and people that live Simple and Frugal lives.
@@michellemarie1197 Most of them have lights on the front as well so they can see at night. I bought a really old Amish 2 seat buggy 2 weeks ago from some Amish friends that I'm restoring that came without lights in the front but has the flashing lights in the back.
Yes great video and informative. Since the '60's been goi going to Middlefied, Ohio with high respect for these people. Appreciate the woman for they know how to cook, clean and don't believe in divorce but they are traditional people.
I have great respect and admiration for the Amish. The Amish communities here in Maine are comprised of down-to-earth folks that I've enjoyed doing business and speaking with. We can all take some lessons from them.
My paternal grandfather was a cabinet maker/carrpenter and blacksmith who had made a few carriages and shoed a huge number of horses...used to help (actually hinder) him at his forge turning the air pump (NOT SO FAST!)...grins Fancy carriages...yeah, they have changed a bit...
that new style carriage with the disk brakes, air ride, and improved wheels is light years ahead of many of the buggies I see out here on the road where I live. I was just wondering about the "state of the art", now I know. Thanks! There are probably many improvements they could still make with the buggies--especially with regard to safety in crashes. That said, I think their overall approach to skepticism of adopting new technology is pretty wise.
🧒🏼If you look at the first automobiles, they look very similar to these buggies. Also, those old Stagecoaches. It looks like their ancestors are the original auto makers, but Dimeter Mercedes, Dodge Bros, Henry Ford used their design, but added an engine and built them on a mass scale. If you install a gasoline engine on the front of one of these buggies, it will be identical to what Jay Leno has in his stable.
I got a good idea. You should make the windshield wipers work from the wheel spinning so that they dont have to crank it by hand. And you can make fans work that way. Like a belt drive system.
Ive got an idea also, im not sure how well it will go down with the Amish in regards to electricity use but i was thinking about their buggy's and the lighting system they use. Ive heard they use 12volt systems just like in a car and there's a big chance for the battery to run out so for keeping the battery charged how about using a car's alternater belt driven off one of the wheels which in turn will run back into the battery to keep it topped up. The system would more than likely need a couple of extra pulleys to speed up the turning rate of the alternator to keep it at optimum speed but it should be simple enough to do.
@jrhager I don't think you meant anything offensive by it, but I hope that you don't think that the Amish are unintelligent because they choose to live life differently. I know quite a few Amish families and they are all very smart.
They use a restricted set of technologies because it makes it easier to live by their principles. The real challenge is to preserve your tenets while embracing all of science and technology (and even then, these can often reveal that your principles your flawed to say the least)
Trying to build a buggy here. Im not Amish, but indo need an alternative means of travel. So im here looking for which way i want to go as in what kind of buggy.
How much for a basic carriage like the first one I. The video that has a bit of a back with side seats. I would even consider a used buggy. I just need something that has the driver inside and out of the elements since Florida gets tons of rain. Do you have price lists
Wouldn't it be better to use some type of a modern pneumatic type of a wheel? I don't see the point of using the wooden Wheels - 10 times more work to wind up something that's inferior = Change = I'm wrong
Since the Amish are not really embracing electricity in the home , how are they recharging the car batteries that are powering the buggy's lights and stuff ?
I wouldn't mind going to Amish camp for a week. I'm getting sick and tired of listening to all the traffic noise and bullshit I have to deal with in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
He is likely new order Amish or Mennonite I knew a Mennonite Family Near Kutztown Ms Martin taught school on an Amish school...they had tractors and her sister was an RN in Lancaster and was married to a doctor..
I think they can use electric but they are not suposed to have electric wires going to theyer house. So they can use things like the lights on the buggies and its ok. And some even have cell phones for work and they get trucks but need someone that isnt Amish to drive them.
Personally, I'm glad they're using an hydraulic brake system and electric lights. To many Amish get killed on the roadway by morons driving their cars and trucks too fast and not paying attention !!! By the way, I'm seriously thinking on purchasing an Amish buggy, although I'm not Amish. If I do, I want brakes and lights for sure.
I seriously doubt the guy is amish, not with that zipper on his coat and a camera. Amish are different in other parts of the country, but i'm not aware of orders that allow either of those things in central PA. That's not to say you wouldn't find amish breaking the rules and having computers in their houses, i'm sure some do. But I doubt they'd have a channel, and they sure wouldn't wear zippers.
I agree. When I seen the zipper and also the way he speaks. Most have a certain sound to them when they speak "English".... and also when he said the slang sentence about the windshield wipers. Also the camera.
That’s nice that God lets them have a air bag ride but they still need to have Hard rubber tires. If i was God i would out law the horse. Make petal it.
People hollers about slavery that happened way before any of us was born but what about the Amish horses, I don't never hear anything outa them and when they go by each other they ain't even allowed to speak to each other...A horses life sucks people and always remember, Horses Lives Matter
Why was it necessary to record sound in a roadside treasure? However, you should use professional consultations when making films! However, movies are sometimes made forever!
So! Amish own the premises and build coaches, buggies and repair same with modern electrical machinery! But don't use cars or machinery on their farms. Really glad they can split the difference between the two, cause I'm sure i cant??!,
I would like to see a Horseless Carriage imagine if Elon musk got ahold of a buggy design adding batteries & drive axles & Syn-Rim electric motors imagine an extended body Cargo-Van or Passenger van with three row seating with solar panels on the rooftop
Are you Amish yourself? You have buttons and zippers? I noticed with all you filmed you did not film any Amish, there for no faces. Which around were we live, you would not take pictures of any Amish and never their face.face maybe a back side but not face.. i would not take any. How much do the buggy cost. A every day use buggy,
Cordiali saluti, Paul Candiago (candiago.p@bmts.com)
even better idea, how about the amish learn to clean up all the horse droppings left behind on roadways. it's a little unsightly. we don't Iive in the past anymore where roads were dirt.
Amish the original preppers,, Thumbs up to them. God Bless everyone of them.
Nice to hear from you Mika.
jrhager why do the Amish have RUclips videos?!!!!

Some really pretty carriages. Lots of work goes into them.
Its great to see American heritage is still alive and well in the 21century.🙂
Yes
I'm always humbled by the innovation and adaptability of the Amish.
Thursday 2:14 AM. How did I end up here, why am I watching this. I need to be up at 5AM.
My stepfather was Amish and grew up outside Lancaster, PA. Though I have no desire to emulate him. I sometimes long for a simpler life. In many ways my life is quite simple.
Take your own counsel. Emulate yourself.
Emulate Jesus only.
I know what you are thinking.
Having a simpler life can no doubt be a struggle at times, but through struggles you learn to have patience, contentment, kindness...etc.

I agree to a point, but what about the harsh winters and ice? Plus how do carriages see at night time?
Amy-Creicher I completely agree. Modern does not mean better. Even with the medical advances I’d still prefer the old way.
@@michellemarie1197 Most of them have lights on the front as well so they can see at night. I bought a really old Amish 2 seat buggy 2 weeks ago from some Amish friends that I'm restoring that came without lights in the front but has the flashing lights in the back.

....and they are healthier as well. No need for insurance or the doctor/pusher drugs. Drink Raw Milk, love.
@@jrhager it ain't the raw milk. It's their overall whole foods diet and lifestyle.
I love the Amish simple lifestyle.
The first carriage must be the Rolls Royce of Amish buggys .
Wow!!those were GRE8 craftsmanship!!
One of my dream rides!!
Thank you for keeping the spirit alive!!
You're awesome sir!!
Love the Amish carriages....especially the grey

Damn the Amish be having more Tech than my truck
Very educational . Thank you .

High tech buggys, nice.
Better idea yet. Build a poop catcher for the horses. Keep the roads clean and they can take it home to fertilize the farm garden.
This baby's like a new corvette!
I am older Mennonite. I know Aaron from he was a co-worker with Abe's buggy rides
Pimp my ride for Victorians.
Rearview mirror with blind spot mirrors? That's cool. Next they will have blind spot monitors with rear cross traffic alert.
thats a real modern buggy it looks like fun to ride in and it looks real smart
He is actually not amish but dresses kinda like the amish. The amish clothes are actually quite comfortable. I'm ex amish.
Excellent video, thanks for posting, much appreciated : )
The amish is using technology? no way
I live in Philadelphia PA my last name means Carriage or coach in English. My family name is Carrozza.
No crash testing required.
Great video Jack :)
Is there is no insulation under the roof area for the heat?
Not ONE Amish buggy in my community have orange triangles on them. And a candle at night time in the fog on a black buggy doesn't cut it.
Drive responsibly
Beautiful! I have a question if lights are requires for buggy how do Amish charging 12 volt battery if they don't have electricity?
great video

I'm wondering what they would cost if someone was to looking to buy ?
Should put a blown 502 in it with open collectors. Just imagine the look on your Amish buddies faces! Also where are the wheel spinners?
hold on! amish first of all, didnt think ye uploaded to you tube!!!!???
neat peopling a bike put gropings in garden everything is useable
anyone know a site where I can find a light duty wagon frame. I want a tube tire kinda like bikes have for wheels
So want need couple old cheap wagon wheels even of there broken it's ok wanna use then for decrations anything rustic
are all those modifications Elder legal?.
pssssssss, over here by the barn, watch out for the horse shit, it depends on who the 'elder' is !
these people are nothing like the Amish from my area.
WHAT IT'S CALLED THE BOOGIE BEAST , WITH ALL THE TOP SECRET GADGETS?
I have a Thourghbred Amish buggy horse. I'd like to train her so I could ride her. Can that be done without messingvwith her buggy skills? Thank you

They use solar and sometimes non-rechargible batteries
What about miniture horse carts ?
Do Amish move all of their things by buggy’s when moving?
they just pickup your house or barn and walk it to the new spot look up videos on that on youtube hahahha
real classy upgrades. i prefer no fancy traditional
Interesting
how much does an Amish coach cost?
Air ride! Air out that buggy! Pleaaaaaase.

Next thing you know, someone will try fitting an engine into one.........Oh.......
I was always told the Amish dont like to be photographed or videotaped. This gentleman must not be truely Amish.
I want one
Is the gentlemen in the video old order or new order?
nice to hear from you Hillary, uh, new order.
he isn't Amish, they not allowed to be on camera, there's rules they have to maintain,

How do you get horse feed, and groceries for a family of 6 in a buggy that small, with One horse. That is mind boggling
You take multiple trips. Amish rarely travel more than a few miles at a time.
I heard the Amish do not use electricity.
But why don't they use steam turbine engines and hydraulic drivetrain?
I think they can use electric but they are not suposed to have electric wires going to theyer house. So they can use things like the lights on the buggies and its ok. And some even have cell phones for work and they get trucks but need someone that isnt Amish to drive them.
Like a fruit basket, they pick what they want to live by.

They do pay taxes. It's just that some people hear a myth and start spreading it without doing their homework.
