  • Well maybe not quite to Fort Knox's standard, but I'll show you how to get real security when locking your truck camper shell window from the INSIDE with this cheap DIY solution! This has given me serious peace of mind while stealth camping, hopefully it helps you out or gives you an idea to work with for your setup.
    This lock setup cost me about $7
    2x Turnbuckles $2.99
    1x Small chain ~2ft @ $0.75/ft
    2000 Toyota Tundra w/2005 ARE topper aka GRAMPS

    Incredible. I had been looking at vans but my neighbor had to downsize because his insurance went up 3x. So now I got a 2002 Nissan Frontier manual, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, 6 ft bed with a camper shell with sliding windows towards the cabin 100320 k for 2600.00.
    So now its about truck camping!! Thank u

    Great tip. Not only safety but seeing the sealant come together each time ya turned showed sealing the door tight too for warmth. Nice 2 birds 1 stone. I will deffently be using ur turn buckles for my next truck stay. Thanks 👊

    This will actually work perfectly for me. I have a 2004 tundra and I’ve found a way to secure the gate but not the camper shell window. My slight modification will just be to use some paracord in place of a chain. That way I can get a more flexible and less rattly connection that’s easier to take off. Definitely stealing your idea. Thank you!

    Just found your channel yesterday watched a bunch of your videos. I camp in my Toyota FJ cruiser. One of these days I’d like to have a tundra with a cap on it for more room but right now the FJ is super cozy for me. As a single woman camper I find it to feel safe inside and for a quick one night outings or if it’s raining I don’t want to set up a tent sleeping inside the truck is awesome.

    • @SethWild
      @SethWild  2 года назад

      Thanks for checking it out! I bet the back of the FJ works really well, plus you can have cab air conditioning and heating which would be convenient (more so if gas wasn’t so $$$ lol). I used to solo backpack camp a lot but between heavy packs on the back and now living in bear country the idea of something hard sided and motorized became most appealing. Where do you like to camp most?

      @@SethWild I live in Michigan and I do most of my camping in Michigan. I like the upper peninsula it’s a lot more rugged and a lot more dispersed camping spots. When I was younger I used to do a lot of backpacking.. I am an old lady now and I don’t do the ground anymore. I bought myself a nice gazelle tent that I can stand up in and I have a wonderful Coleman cot that is super comfortable. And yes last year I camped in 90° weather and turning on the air conditioning at night was heavenly. I’m spoiled now.. and last year I camped in -5° weather in the winter. I was sleeping out in a tent cot. I was toasty warm in my sleeping bag but getting up at night to use the bathroom was brutal. I gave up and went and slept inside the FJ and turned the heat on. It’s nice to have that option.

      @@Jax4umalta oh huge respect on the winter camp, that’s my absolute favorite, so I know exactly what you mean when it comes to not wanting to get out once you’ve zipped up haha. I have a solo winter camp video in Minnesota that I never uploaded on my old channel maybe I’ll dig that and a few others out and upload for fun too.

      @@SethWild Yes I would definitely like to see your winter camp video. I’m not a big fan of winter but this year the bugs are driving me nuts lol but I would rather deal with the bugs than the cold. I am a spring and summer girl for sure. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the cooler weather but not -5. Lol

    If you could hook it around the actual lock barrel, not the lever, it’d be more secure.

    Question. Does this secure the lift gate

    • @SethWild
      @SethWild  5 месяцев назад

      In my case I lock the lift gate and then I close the shell window so the gate isn’t a problem!
