      Thanks bud, does timber mate come as a clear filler? I was really only trying out Aqua Coat to save time not having to tape off the faux binding. I should have done a tester first but I've been rushing to get this thing finished.

      @@ADFinlayson they have all sorts of various colors. I'm sure they have a neutral/clear color. Give them a try. Ived used many dif kinds of grain filler and Timbermate has been the only one I found to actually work without shrinkage. And it's pretty easy to use as well. And you can save the excess used and reconstitute it later. So 1 can goes a long way.

    Stunning finish, despite the blemishes, I love it! I have some leather dye here, I might combine for a similar finish.
    I’m doing a Crimson stunning staines finish: Crimson red-Phtalo blue. The result is slightly more pinkish-lighblue, than I hoped for & the guitar top had loads of glue outs, which I couldn’t solve. So, I decided to do a rattlecan blue burst, but when I used rattle can clear coat it all started to bubble & crack. Obviously I sprayed the lacquer on too soon; but the result is quite cool! I’m keeping it that way.

    My greetings! My opinion - you have got one of interesting colour blending. You rose base is amazing! When I saw your idea , I decided to go that way in colour decision. I just want to experiment also with lemon(!) yellow (if i find this stain) as a base (just small areas), and blue colour move by gradient to purple colour. Certainly, rose base is the main base.

    The Aqua clear definitely works better over a few sealer coats,, but it requires patience to build it up on anything very open grained. I haven't used it for a while now and have tended to use Thixotropic Grain Filler from Rothko and Frost, which is great to use and produces perfect results. Very nice build; well done.

    • @ADFinlayson

      Yes that's a Earlex 3 stage turbine. Though if you see some of my more recent videos I've sold that and gone to the conventional compressor setup with a iWata LPH-80 and I'm gutting way better results with fewer coats.

    Beautiful finish work mate. Interesting to see you grain filled after a finish coat. My mahogony also has some grainy spots that could have been filled or better sanded before getting oiled. I may go back in a few months and see what I can do as well. For now Im just wanting to play it after all that work hehe. Im sure you are the same.

    • @ADFinlayson
      @ADFinlayson  3 года назад

      Thanks man, yes no reason not to add some filler after a coat or 2 of lacquer, the likes of prs spray sealer then grainfill to prevent it getting on the maple binding, sealer is just high build lacquer (the stuff I use is anyway) only thing I might not have mentioned was that I did scuff the surface up with the mirka pad prior to wiping in that extra filler.
      I'm not totally happy with this either, I did miss a spot with filler around that edge by the control cover, I also haven't got the top level sanded as well as I want to so I'm going to have to add a few more coats after (but I'll play it first). I sprayed 13 coats but I'd thinned the lacquer a lot so I need more on there. Pitfalls of spending 2 weeks on a finish I'd normally stew over for 2 months.

    • @borgonianevolution
      @borgonianevolution 3 года назад

      @@ADFinlayson right. Ben is soo spot on with that end of build just wanting to play thing vs taking time to perfect the last bits. I am glad I took time to set it up between initial oil coats and where mine is at now as there were a few tweaks I had to do that would have been problematic on a totally finished build.

    I think if you pour molten glass into a solid pattern of nitrocellulose, it'll fume colors into the glass as it burns away, so you could get a tie-dyed glass look this way, and the carbon gives it structure, like an opal...
    I think you could make gun stocks out of this Glass-Injected Nitrocellulose-Based Carbon-Fiber, and it would be better stronger and more heat resistant than polymer... and also look cool.
    I think a lattice-like frame of nitrocellulose carbon fibers, acting like a skeleton for the glass, it all will melt together, but it reinforces the glass like re-bar concrete, so thay it stays in one piece, and just glass dust gets knocked off, if you whack it on a rock or some concrete.
    Probably cheaper than wood, with an initial expensive investment.... it pays for itself
