How To Repair The Chuck on a DCF887 DeWalt Impact Driver

  • This video shows how to fix the issue of the bit holder falling out of your impact driver specifically the model DCF887 from Dewalt. The one shown is a type 1 but other types of DCF887 are exactly the same as far as the required parts are concerned this includes 18v and 20v.( 18 volt is a European rating 20 Volt is North America rating for exactly the same thing). A step by step guide showing description of parts and assembly instructions. These impact drivers from DeWalt are very prone to this fault it is very common, luckily it is a cheap fix to do, the failing component is a small spring located it the quick release assembly of the chuck. The spring required should be very easily picked up from Ebay or a Dewalt supplier. I have a previous video on an older model the DCF885 (brushed version) in which the chuck is the same as the DCF886 (brushless version). The repair to the chuck of the DCF887 is very similar to these although they have changed the appearance of the spring slightly. It is too basic a fix to send to a repair centre it is better to be able to do this one yourself to save being without your tool for too long. Dewalt impact driver losing the bit holder not holding it in place? Can you fix a dewalt dcf887 which is dropping the bit holder? If I can you can.

    Thank you for making this video. I somehow managed to get the ball to slip off the spring inside the chuck, which made the chuck unable to hold a bit. With this video, I was able to place the ball back where it belongs and now my impact is as good as new. Thanks again!

    Thanks so much. I had the chuck off for days now, and couldn’t for the life of me remember to get it back together correctly. I tried a few combinations but it makes sense the spring is under neath the hog ring now.
    I was getting ready to order a replacement spring 🤣

    The last ring that hold everything together is a pain. Finally i got it by lining the split section up with the releaf cut in the fixed chuck itself,and work it in around.
    After many attempts i had a cuppa tea then thought just line the two sections up.
    Once again a cuppa tea saves the day🤣

      Thanks. I spent an hour trying to get in it before reading your comment. Once lined up held it down with a flat head on one side then with one end of needle nose grab the ring while prying against the chuck slips right it. Also I didn't but the spring I just re made de bent in the broken one. The chuck if stuffed you have less pull to release your bit but at least it's fixed and works decent. Thanks for the good video.

    Good to know about the 885, I happened to have a dead one. Took both apart. As it turns out, the spring on my 887 was perfectly fine. So I tried swapping the collet from the 885 onto the 887 and that fixed it. Put the collet from the 885 on the dead 887, wouldn't hold a bit. Thanks for the tips!

    I repair tools as a sideline. Sometimes that split ring will slip on and off easily and other times it takes a half an hour and many choice words to get it back together. I found it just takes patience.

    845 uses an extra ring (2-part ring) instead of a spring hook. the extra ring goes between the spring and the ball to push the ball up. so the spring can't break. the ball can still slip to the bottom though. that's what cause spring breaks in all of these. but in 845, you just need to push the ball up and reassemble. the fun times with hog ring are still there though. sigh.

    I sent my impact away for this, took 19 months to get it back and Canadian tire told me it wasn’t covered by warranty so they gave it back to me still broken 😡 I took it apart an bent the spring and it’s been working fine since!!

    • @michaelclark8036
      @michaelclark8036 11 месяцев назад

      They also told me it would be $2-$3 for a new spring if I fixed it myself OR $100+ if I wanted them to replace the spring! Just give me my impact back! No parts needed and I did it in 5 minutes!! Warranty is run out cuz they had it for almost 2 years, that’s 18 months longer then I had it lmao

    One thing I have learned, not all bits are the same. Name brand bits hold, they are a bit wider. However, cheap harbor freight bits etc..., do not hold in my DeWalt Impact drill chuch.
