'Time' is the best album made in the past that sounded like it was from the future and listening to it today still sounds like it is from the future of todays future :)
Make the decision today, for the betterment of your future, stop living in the past. The music is reversible, time is not....
The entire album is a masterpiece, love Time.
The whole album is worth a listen.
Absolutely agree. One of their rather 'forgotten' albums.
And its pretty rare, when the all album is worth of listening. "Time" is that rare moment
This is one of their best albums. From start to finish.
Some great songs on time, twilight, ticket to the moon, rain is falling, the way life’s meant to be, 21st century man and lights go down. That is 6 enjoyable songs on one top album 🥰🥰
"...and she's also a telephone" -great prophetic line.
A HIGHLY underrated album. But just another example of Jeff Lynne's genius.
The next song on the album "Ticket to the Moon" is a great song too!!
I rushed out to buy this album - back in 1981 I was 13 when it came out I got home and plonked it straight onto the turntable... then from the 'Prologue' intro into 'Twilight' I was hooked on this album and still am!
Ticket to The Moon follows. Just an incredible album!
I love Ticket to the Moon
@@Terri6868 I quite agree Ticet to the Moon is excellent.
I love this song so much ...that entire Time album is an absolute masterpiece you just need to listen to the whole thing
Not an ELO "starter" song. This song comes from the concept album "Time". The singer has been transported to the the year 2095 (or maybe it's just a dream) and he is trying to normalize until he can get back to his own time. His new love interest, in this song, does not seem live live up to the standard of the love he left behind.
This album came out in 1981 I was only 13. Reached no 1 in the album charts
The first major concept album about time travel. Oddly enough, according to interviews of musicians, Time is arguably ELO’s most influential album. Daft Punk, Flaming Lips, Steve Winwood and others have named it.
This is my favorite ELO album and they have several very good ones.
A wonderful song from an astounding album that was way ahead of its time by a band led by the genius, that is Jeff Lynne.
Thank you for a great reaction. You hit the nail on the head regarding the leap in sound from early ELO to the "Time" album. Jeff's music has always been multi layered and magical 👍😊
The whole album is pop classic, end of that!!!!
From the album Time, 80’s ELO and my 2 favourites off this album are ‘the way life’s meant to be’ and ‘Rain is falling’
Ugh! I LOVE THIS SONG. It wasn't a single or a hit, but when I DJ'd Indie Dance clubs in the 2000s-2010s, it was an awesome "deep cut" to throw into a mix. It actually sounded like a lot of Indie-Electro stuff coming out around the mid/late-00s (Empire of the Sun "Walking on a Dream", Midnight Juggernauts "Into the Galaxy", Digitalism "Pogo", Cut Copy "Lights and Music", Klaxons "Golden Skanz").
'Time' is such a wonderful album!! I absolutely love this song, but you MUST do Ticket To The Moon, which immediately follows this track. So many amazing tracks on this, such as Another Heart Breaks, Here Is The News, Twilight, 21st Century Man, From The End Of The World.
Just listen to the whole thing!!
A lot of RUclipsrs react to ELO's 70s stuff not knowing they had 3 great albums during the 80s. "2095" is from their fantastic 1981 concept album, "Time".
"Time" is my second favorite ELO album (behind "Out of the Blue"). The ultimate fish out of water time travel concept album. The whole set has a sad, somber undertone to it. Great example of an uptempo song but also delving into feelings of loneliness, isolation and despair.
Has a different sound because Jeff Lynne sort of ditched the strings for more synthesizers. And it still manages to sound like classic ELO.
My favorite ELO album. Even the kids will request it now and then. I use the opening of “Here Is The News” as my ringtone… my son’s favorite April Fools joke is to bring up the song on RUclips on his phone and stick it near mine, to see me come running.
Love ELO💜 Ticket to the Moon is next. One of my favorites💜
I suspect those who miss the orchestra, don't understand the point of Time. Being a "scifi opera", Jeff obviously wanted it to have a very futuristic sound. But listen to the music: all the layers, the use of heavy deep vocoder voice, contrasting with the higher, and the slightly distorted main vocal of Jeff. This is unmistakably ELO=Jeff Lynne. On the next two albums, this continues, but the hi-tech is turned down a notch. This album was unique when it came out, and is just as unique now. (Not uncategorizable; it's just the only item of its category.) There are artists, like Oldfield, APP, maybe JM Jarre, who come close to some aspects of this sound, but not as a prog record in the sense of telling a story.
Loved to see a reaction to this song, though I would have liked seeing more reaction and reflection. (For doing that properly of course, the album should be listened to as a whole.)
ELO time trippin'
Cuántos éxitos posee ELO, es impresionante. Try please, "Stranger", "The light go down" "Nightrider" ANeed her love" "Shangri-La" "One summer Drean"
Timeless song from a fantastic album! 💘 love.
Wowzers ELO, love it. Super reaction xx
I bought this album when it was an actual record in 1981 while I was still in Highschool.
Love E.L.O ! This is Not one that I remember though but this is classic of their futuristic sound 👌 😊
I have never seen a reaction to this song before. Thank you and thank you to the person who requested it. The rest of the album is good too.
the best song on this album was 21st Century Man. Also Ticket To The Moon
All their music is brilliant one our top bands. they did so many different styles but you always know its E.L.O. Great review😊👍
This is yours truly.
So far a head of their time. From the IBM / APPLE 🍏 LINE to the jumpsuit on but also a telephone 📞 lines. This is almost dating in 2022.
2095 can only hope for this.
Dear, you’re facing a true masterpiece from a true music Genius. No award on Planet Earth could be enough to honor Jeff Lynne ☺️
As a teenaged computer nerd in the early 1980's I, of course, imagined a hot android girlfriend. To hear a song that suggested it might not work out was kind of funny, but wow: what a tune. Glad to see you enjoyed it as well.
Thanks for sharing your reactions.
I agree with many of the other comments -Time is an absolute under-rated masterpiece. Pretty well every song is a gem on its own , but even better when you go on the journey of the full album.
Rain is falling is one of Jeff's best. Also love the opener (Twilight) and Here is The News.
Really unusual choice but I love this song. However, its better to listen to the whole Time album, it's amazing and still sounds fresh.
I love ELO and this album but if you had told me back then when I first listened to this one that it was The Buggles, I wouldn't have doubted it.
The "Time" album was a breeze of fresh ELO air after the very disappointing soundtrack of the movie Xanadu and the very disco "Discovery" album (although I learned to appreciate that last one a lot more as the years went by). "Time" still had the brilliant craftmanship of songwriting by Jeff Lynne, but without the lush orchestrations of a few albums before this one. Jeff was never in the business of reapeating himself as a songwriter. Every album has its own signature in some way.
Great you checked this out - so much love for the album... Do more from it! Keep up the good work
My hero, i was in love with my then girlfriend when i bought the album and dedicated all the tracks to her.
Great song, one of their best !!
Thank you for reacting to this. Time is an excellent album. 21st Century Man and Ticket to the Moon are very good songs from the album too. You might like to react to the very first song ELO ever made, which is called 10538 Overture. Again, it's very different to what you've heard from them so far. Thanks again.
IBM is a computer the original computer company I think this is a song a robot woman
'But she is an I.B.M! '
A little slightly dystopian prog rock to start off the week. Love it, good choice. The "heart of stone" is probably a metaphor for silicon chips or whatever they are using in 2095. But now this Catagory 1B free range senior with underlying conditions must get ready to go for my first COVID-19 vaccination (yaayyy!).
ELO literally has no bad songs, and 2095 is one of their best songs they've ever put out there, the Album Time is one of the greatest albums to grace music in history and its sad its gone and been left in the twilight of the 21st century
ELO rocks!
Fairly profound song!
Best Album IMO . Even though Lynn himself is not keen on it.... Sounds a bit like the Buggles this one.
Speaking of which: "Video killed the radio star"-reaction coming up?
I sometimed fear Jeff doesn't really like any of his own music, or rather, he thinks it is not infinitely perfect. That's a pity, because he has plenty of perfect songs, all the way back to The Idle Race in 1968, that really deserve to be taken up and played again. Imagine if Brian Wilson thought like that about Pet Sounds. _That_ would be insane. Jeff is just too self-deprecating at times, it is mostly a positive trait, but when it's overdone, we are all poorer for it.
Fantastic song, K.S.O. You might be interested in a couple of other top tunes from the same-ish era exploring a similar theme - the difficulty of connecting with a machine-based lover:
Dee D. Jackson: Automatic Lover (1978)
The Buggles: I Love You (Miss Robot) (1980)
It is a concept album. The songs have a theme. To understand the song.
The "Time" album is a concept about a time traveller from 1981 who finds himself transported to the future world of 2095. In "Yours Truly, 2095" he falls in love with an female android who he believes will provide everything he wants as a lover but to his disappointment she isn't programmed for that kind of relationship.
Jeff Lynne's mate Roy Wood did a similar song on his 1973 solo album "Boulders", the song is called "Miss Clarke and the Computer". This song is about a computer who falls in love with it's operator, Miss Clarke, the relationship isn't allowed so the computer is dismantelled. The songs lyrics are from the computers point of view as it is being dismantelled piece by piece, heady stuff for 1973.
I might live the year 2095, I would have 92 years.
My favorite song by my 5th favorite band.
P.S. No joke, I got an IBM ad on this video XD

If you can, listen to Strange Magic, Living Thing or the Music from Xanadu that was a Box Office Flop but still has a Cult Following. Their Music was featured in Boogie Nights & The Virgin Suicides. They were heavily influenced by Chuck Berry (RIP) like alot of UK Artists were and The Moody Blues. Jeff Beck would later work with his Buddy George Harrison in The Traveling Wilburys and helped Produce The Beatles Anthology Series.
What a awesome strange song it’s like space disco or summit
Another recommendation from the same artist and album is Here Is The News, complete with heavy synth riffn' groovage.
This album is where Daft Punk went from inspiration. Amazing!
Although not one of their best selling albums at the time, its a masterpiece and landmark album. One of their finest collective creations. Even now, I would not hesitate to put up against ANY new album of any genre. Time would put it to shame.
Hi miss "Perfect lips" 🤩, my shock - lips looks like a from magazine, this is not trully! ... of course this song is natural saddnes, the guy is sad as machine is not like human as he wants. Well this is not new for a people who read science fiction books for a long time - all they said robots are not humans ... except "200 century man", the story when the robot want to be a man very trully and did it and then ... he rules many worlds and became a god like creature and all humankind do appreciate this.
Time Was A Break-away from ELOs Standard Sound it's totally Unique. Again Showcasing ng Jeff Lynne and his Bands extreme Talent
I don't know if you ever do TV shows to react to but look at Its a Sin written by Russell T Davis amazing TV also look at a band called Years and Years xx hope you are OK xx
“Invest in futuristic mithology, to obtain the invest and more in the future”
~ELEO~
The Entire Album is Futuristic Sound. It's What Makes the Time Album Unique Although "Out OF The Blue";It's preceding Album Also had A Space Travel Theme it wasn't the same in sound Again These Show the Genius of Jeff Lynne. No ELO Album is Bad. Unlike most bands due to Jeff's Extreme focus on Music Perfection
I want a robot for a president in my country - that I want trully, someone with heart of stone.
In 2095 this song will...
be a masterpiece as now!
Surprised you didn't do "Twilight" from this one. It's good but kind of an odd choice for first time reaction.
This is about a man who is missing the woman he loves. He meets a robotic ‘woman’ who looks like his woman. He tries to get close to it because it is the closest thing to his real woman, but it rejects him. It asks him, “Is it what you REALLY want”? So, he stays away from it until he is able to be with is real woman again. It’s very lonely . . . in space.
Great album, but very depressing in its feel-by this point Lynne had effectively sacked everybody but Tandy the keyboard player & there was no orchestration any longer, he was obviously more into keyboards, vocoders, pop production etc than string instruments as we saw with this & their final two albums.
Bev Bevan was still the drummer on this album and Kelly Grouchett provided the bass guitar and vocals as well.
They had two more albums after Time before the went their separate ways.
There's still non-synth strings (violins) on "Time". You can hear them on this song.
Call me insane, but in future you will be able to get in a relationship with an AI.
