Him, Em, Joe Budden was one of the first quote un quote “Emo rap” then Kanye came and he was vulnerable in his raps, but Kid Cudi and kanye with 808’s and man on the moon changed hip hop forever. Also Lil Wayne with tha carter 3. Them 3 mixed together is basically the sound of Hip Hop now. Drake is also a part of that mix, though he’s not as dark but he’s still part of that early “Emo rap” wave.
Sb2h album 2015 was like the birth of this wave from the day that album came out I was like this gonna be a big precursor to the type of stuff we gonna hear, sure enough 1-2 years later that style exploded through SoundCloud

@@ASHTREY bones was still "th@t kid" when lean started his career. Not sure if you've heard any th@t kid but the aesthetic wasn't really emotional. Plenty of emo raps out there pre dating both lean and bones, just saying, lean made the lane viable.

If you look up the project on bandcamp to this day, even though the site says by BONES, the album cover even still says th@t kid in the corner. Bones wasn't Bones until the name change on the mixtape "Bones" which dropped in December of 2012. Furthermore, ginseng strip 2002 was leans first hit but he formed the group Hasch boys in early 2012 with yung gud and some of the guys from drain gang. If you can find any of it, their sound was always closer to that true emotional vibe. Lastly, my statement was about who popularized emotional rap, which is undeniably lean's accomplishment regardless of whether or not he did it first.
