I like how he went looking for his dad and still was able to accept him and love him. not many people that grow up without a father look for their dad and accept him in. i know from first hand experience that your father is your father, and it'll take something big and major to break that relationship. Good on ya mate :)
I'm also impressed at the support he got from his wife, to take that extra step and keep looking until she found him. He seems a truly family focused man. And not a bad soccer/football player as well. That goal was sublime.
For the longest time, a lot of people out there have not given JJ his due credit, worrying too much about trival quirks or byproducts of his game, position and playing style. But I sense the performance in the Nigeria friendly helped change that. I'm glad to see people have caught up and fully embraced what Jermaine is about on the field. He IS a Core 5 member, a Champions League player of many years. Go JJ!
noize2040 Shit, he plays his heart out for the USA, even more so than some of the American born and raised boys. I'll gladly have him in the team and I was born and raised in the USA.
Thank you Jermaine for your hard work, and dedication to the US soccer team. You played with all you had; your performance in the World Cup, 2014 in Brazil remains unforgettable.
I can't unterstand why people say he isn't american ... he has a dual citizenship which makes him german AND american ! it doesn't matter how good his english is. it is important how you represent your country and how you feel. nothing else matters. when he played for germany some people said he's not a german, he's just a black man from america which isn't true too.
tbh- I haven't really kept up with the USMNT (I'm American/guatemalan) until a couple years ago.. and ever since then I've loved every single match watching these guys put in 110% effort into every game, doing what they do best and kicking ass. Jermaine Jones is an absolute legend in my book, scored an amazing goal against Portugal yesterday. before watching this I thought he was just a tough guy but, it seems he's a tough guy with an amazing story behind him to make him that tough guy he is today. keep up the work Jonsey!
I really like jermaines story out of all of the other players. His wife supports him by finding his dad and having him back in his life. Jermaine jones is a really good player! I give him props on how he did in the World Cup 2014.
I love this one! I didn't realize he had such a huge heart! I was never a big Jermaine Jones fan but now he is a favorite! This was a great idea to let us get a brief glimpse of who these men are off the pitch!
Growing up with no dad, presumably a G.I., in Germany. Half black, hlaf white...I can totally relate. Personally I think he would've been a great addition to the German squad, shame we couldn't keep him!
It's cool man that his wife went through the effort of finding his dad and contacting him. It shows she actually cares about his well being rather then just a superficial gift.
Incredible story really, very sincere. Also great to see all positive comments on this video. Nobody is being rude or trolling on this video. Refreshing
Love this guy and the way he owned his chance in the World Cup. The rules are what they are and I remember US getting excited about a FIFA sanctioned switch from Jones even in the mid - Bob Bradley years. So excited to see that he delivered on his own promise and talent. Pumps me up that our team is representative of what we are --- a land of immigrants.
I love reading all the negative comments on here. I can't imagine having enough free time to espouse negativity for a country that I hate lol or don't like. There are so much better things to do with your precious time.
Love Jermaine Jones, but I wish an MLS team existed in Connecticut, MLS is accepting ubran formats. Amazing story. I love how football brings together the world.
I want to get another USA Rocket Popsicle jersey! Its either Jermaine Jones because of his AMAZING World Cup play or Fabian Johnson because he's been playing well before the World Cup and a few games in the World Cup
This is of the few if not the only well-done piece. It has emotion. It's not just worthless tidbits of info about players. I am very disappointed in these 23 stories series. Someone very under-qualified must have produced these. I love the concept - it allows ordinary people get to know the players and it makes them more invested in the team and watching the games, world cup, etc. And the technical execution is also great, great style, but no substance. The questions, if there are any, that they ask the players is absolutely garbage. My cat could do a better job. Whoever produced these really effed these up. 23 stories had potential. Failed miserably. And they had the balls to call them "stories." They are just random facts about players. There is no meaningful story. This is probably the only good one. See any ESPN profile piece - they are the pros.
Of course Jermaine is German. His mother is German and he was born and grew up here in Germany after all. Still his father is American and he obviously has a real connection to the US, so imho it´s totally fine and believable that he likes to play for the US too. So I don´t get why some Americans should have a problem with it, given that he is good enough to play for you guys. Same goes for the rest of the "Germaricans" of course. P.S.: As a German I might be pissed though if a player like e.g. Julian Green turns out to be good enough to play for Germany someday...^^
Someone tell this guy he is an American athlete. Where is the arrogance? ;) Seriously though... what a humble guy deserving of that once-in-a-lifetime goal.
I know U.S played as a team but I'd have to say that he really put on for the team this World Cup. He was all over the field the game vs Belgium and after that phenomenal goal against Portugal only pumped him up more. Great player
Team usa needs a new coach! A coach that gets this soccer mentality out this freaking team and put the football or futbol mentality!... football the beautiful game!
gtmsnba13 Thats one player, dipshit. Even someone with half a brain could comprehend how strange it is that these dudes represent a country that they weren't even born in.
I like how he went looking for his dad and still was able to accept him and love him. not many people that grow up without a father look for their dad and accept him in. i know from first hand experience that your father is your father, and it'll take something big and major to break that relationship. Nice that u can relate
I'm also impressed at the support he got from his wife, to take that extra step and keep looking until she found him. He seems a truly family focused man. And not a bad soccer/football player as well. That goal was sublime.
Favorite player on the team tied with Bradley
Dangit Jermaine Jones! You made me cry a bit. That's awesome that you now have a good relationship with your dad. Beautiful story.
The intensity that this guy has played with in the World Cup is inspiring.
That's good that he was able to connect with his dad again
Jermaine Jones que goooooooooolazzoooo!! I will remember that goal FOREVER!!
Jermaine plays tough soccer, most of all, he plays with precision, which makes it paramount for the US soccer team.
This Guy makes me love American Team, Experienced in what he does
theres nothing american about him...hes never lived in america.
just by being born in the US..doesn't really make you american.
Hes more german to me.
noize2040
Shit, he plays his heart out for the USA, even more so than some of the American born and raised boys. I'll gladly have him in the team and I was born and raised in the USA.
noize2040 he lived in Mississippi as a kid..
Thank you Jermaine for your hard work, and dedication to the US soccer team. You played with all you had; your performance in the World Cup, 2014 in Brazil remains unforgettable.

when he played for germany some people said he's not a german, he's just a black man from america which isn't true too.
I agree but I think he speaks great English.
Jannic Wolter It's very simple...he happens to be a footballer, not good enough for Germany, then, he plays for U.S.A.
THANKS MAN.. FOR LOVING USA.....I LOVE U...and GOD BLESS YOU
Man Of The Match!!!!
He scored a beauty vs Portugal

Ok. I officially really like this guy, now, after seeing this video. I kind of liked him before.
Great player and a good human being...goal against Portugal was out of this world!!!
I really like jermaines story out of all of the other players. His wife supports him by finding his dad and having him back in his life. Jermaine jones is a really good player! I give him props on how he did in the World Cup 2014.
He learned english!!
He learned it long ago! But I get what you're saying, it use to be so bad.
I love this one! I didn't realize he had such a huge heart! I was never a big Jermaine Jones fan but now he is a favorite! This was a great idea to let us get a brief glimpse of who these men are off the pitch!

Jermaine's father is American so he will always be american regardless if he lives abroad or not. =)

He lives here in Los Angeles. He's am American citizen because his dad is American
bin froh das er in der usa sein Glück wiedergefunden hat

three years later we know green is as far from the national squas as the sun is from the earth :D
He plays in Turkey . His primary residence is in LA
i thought he lived in LA?
Someone tell this guy he is an American athlete. Where is the arrogance? ;)
Seriously though... what a humble guy deserving of that once-in-a-lifetime goal.
I swear half of America's national team are just Germans not good enough to play for Germany.
Chef keff
Welcome to the LA Galaxy!
I know U.S played as a team but I'd have to say that he really put on for the team this World Cup. He was all over the field the game vs Belgium and after that phenomenal goal against Portugal only pumped him up more. Great player
