Having to search over 70 bodies of water sounds insurmountable. I'm so glad this family was able to find out what happened to their loved one and that his colleagues, friends, and students don't continue to have the lingering question of "what happened?" whenever they think of him. Many years ago, a retired from Cdn Military couple with two teen daughters, started through the local scouting group, a search and rescue team. 14 and up in age. We were trained for ground searches, urban searches, and each of us on the team had developed specialties. So maps, first aid, knots, on and on. There were 12 teens on the team, and 6 in their 20s. We were attached to both the city of Toronto police, and the Province of Ontario. So we usually were used to re search areas the police and SAR had been through. Also we were used in city malls looking for runaway teens because we blended and weren't threatening. I share this because this kept a lot of young guys off the streets, and being active, and us young women learned survival skills and more. It wasn't expensive, we didn't use big equipment. Some of our team joined military, some went into police dispatch, I went into Nursing. So communities can organize and train and help search for new and old missing people as a co pimento to these big water search teams.

Hopefully this time someone can bring a dog or two. It never hurts to have a canine along in your search and rescue group. They can carry their own water too.
It's a fantastic idea just make sure everyone reads up on David Paulides and knows what to do and not do. Don't lose anyone while you're out looking for lost people. It's vitally important to carry a transponder and a gun. Don't take any chances.

The most wonderful thing is now with some training anyone with an expensive down and side imaging sonar otherwise known as a fish finder can find an abnormality in the water and report it to the authorities or if it’s not to deep dive it. Our police departments don’t have the funds to keep looking and families deserve answers. My condolences go out to this man’s family and I’m glad they finally can bring him home.

They don't have the funds to look, but some guy with a aluminum boat and a decent fish finder can find the stuff they can't be bothered to. But I'm glad they can pony up the cash to buy all that military hardware they can get their hands on to look like a small militia on their own. Up here they found the remains of a young woman that's been missing for a few years within a mile of the police station. They took the skull and a couple of bones and somehow couldn't be bothered to poke around and find the rest and actually investigate it, cleared the site and her family walked up and found a bunch of her bones just lying about that they forgot, and they couldn't be bothered to come back down the road and finish the job. The county investigators ended up showing up to do the job because it made all the police look bad because they just half assed it. They have the money, time, and manpower to get this shit done... they just don't have enough fucks to give to actually do it.
