  • March 3 is the birthday of master fiddler Hadley Castille. A proud resident of St. Landry Parish, he was born in 1933 and began playing fiddle at age nine. Taught to play in a traditional Cajun style by his Uncle Cyprien Castille, he credited hearing a Harry Choates song at the Silver Slipper dance hall in Pecaniere as the inspiration to learn the Cajun swing style he would become known for. He was well known for his wide range of styles, signature hat, and festival performances with his band, Hadley Castille and the Sharecroppers. He passed away in 2012. Please enjoy this clip from the Rendez-vous des Cajuns show at the Liberty Theater in Eunice from 1992, featuring Hadley, his son Blake Castille on guitar, and John Buckelew on fiddle.
