The main problem with the new Seiko 5 watches is the price. There are a ton of microbrand watches with NH movements in them, including SKX homages that cost around the same or less with better specs. This leaves me with little to no incentive to buy a Seiko unless I want something with one their higher end movements from a 6R to a spring drive.
It's still a good looking watch, the price will come down with a little time and as SKX models get harder to find their price will go up, the price lines will cross making the 5's a better buy. That still leaves the question of the crystal.....just a bunch of SKX left overs? 100 meters WR is ok as most of us will never really dive with this watch and Seiko does offer true diver's for that purpose. I predict that in a year or two modders will be using the new line as their goto watch.
I own one myself. I bought it because I do like the design but I agree that the crown is difficult to wind. I paid $185 for mine. Thanks for the review...
I don't understand the retail price argument. All Seikos are expensive at their "retail" price, which can be said for most watch companies out there. But I have NEVER paid retail for a Seiko. I found this watch for $180 at my local Kohl's. You could buy a sapphire crystal and install it for less than what the SKX is currently going for.
Hey, I just bought this watch for USD 211 in my home country and I think it's really really nice. The sun burst dial is rather unusual. Drilled lugs is definitely an advantage. Love the steel mesh bracelet which seems to be really well made.
In my country and in the whole region - ex Yugoslavia, the skx007 was 350 to 400$ at the autorized dealer and thats the price i payed for mine. It always bothered me when People say skx is the best diver uder 200 $, maybe so in the US but for many countries in Europe, Seiko watches are quite expensive.
I agree that the olive and the blue on Milanese straps are definitely "the pick of the bunch"! 100m W/R is fine by me, and I don't like screw-in crowns on mechanical watches anyway. You can already pick them up on-line for far less than retail. Thanks for the review.
About 15-20 years ago I remember seeing signs of authorized Seiko Dealers everywhere. Now I don't see that anymore and I feel most are sold in department stores where the sales person doesn't know anything about the watch, they just sell them. It's a shame.

The skx mod interest is picking up in a big way. For $400 you can mod an SKX to your liking as long as you can get a base watch at a good price, that seems to be getting to be more of an issue. The 013 is not available in the new model 5s, that's to bad as well. Thanks for the video.
Plenty of the real iconic, classic certified diver Seiko SKXs still available brand new for under $300. Also, if you want an upgrade on the 7s26 movement, the Seiko SRP777, the Turtle, can be bought new for around $300. I’d definitely prefer one of these classic watches to the new Seiko 5s.
As mentioned by some in the comment section, these Seiko 5 are actually not expensive. Just don't be a sucker and buy it at USD 350-400. They already have real divers in Prospex and Turtle line. The new generation and casual watch buyers are leaning towards MVMT, DW and other horrible watches. These Seiko 5 are great to compete for those new generation and the Seiko fans who like to mod while these aren't really expensive. Good move Seiko 👍.
The MSRP is no fun, but I should point out that you can often find these at places like Macy’s for ~$220 in the US. That’s where I got mine, and that was the price after tax. $220 5KX vs an SKX for more money plus not able to check it out in store or in person? 5KX for sure in that case.
Thank you Oleg, great review. I believe Seiko is trying to put a bigger gap between their entry level divers which are now more fashion pieces and their top of the line divers. My brother just gifted me a Seiko Prospex Padi 70021 200m ISO certified, auto SR15, sapphire crystal with AR, drilled, lugs, screw down crown, immaculate case finish, beautiful case back with Seikos Tsunami emblem, incredible 2 color lume, unidirectional bezel with lumed pip, blk & blue dial with wave pattern, applied indices, date, rubber strap with heavy duty SS hardware and seiko logo on the metal keeper....just gorgeous....but the price is around $900 depending on where you buy it. I wish they had preserved the best features of the SKX while offering a greater color selection, more strap choices, and incorporated once and for all sapphire crystals. With so many microbrands offering these features in the $300 - $400 price range I think Seiko is missing the mark. I guess they rely on their name recognition, and for most consumers who are not very knowledgeable of these matters the name is enough to make a purchase. Thank you again Oleg, and cheers my friend.

I'm 2-3 months away from purchasing this exact Seiko 5 SRPD model and I'd like to know whether it's possible to put the SRPD on an original Seiko jubilee bracelet as seen on the SKX or not. Other than the mesh bracelet, I'm fascinated by this timepiece, however if it's possible, I'd definitely switch out the mesh with an original Seiko jubilee bracelet. Yep - if you're paying full retail for these it must be because you really want to, for some reason. Doesn't take a lot of effort to find them for 30% off or better.
I own 3 different variations of this watch. I'm experiencing the same when winding the watch, the sharp edges under the crown guard makes the operation uncomfortable. Great review BTW.
Hope you got it on sale during Bay Days. They had some great prices around XMas time. I had a friend looking for their first automatic & I gave his wife a few suggestions. He was very happy for this new gen 5
Making it part of the 5 range gave them an excuse for just I00 m and non screw down crown If they just updated the skx range with the same movement and charged $50 more ,everyone would be happy and it could go on forever .Can you imagine Rolex discontinuing the Submariner ,their best known and iconic model?
The price I paid makes this great value - I don't need 200m nor a lume on the bezel insert, and the Hardflex is meant to be good - you don't get sapphire with the SKX either. The criticisms are a bit picky - does it look cool and tell good time?
I bought the green one with bracelet for £189 here in Glasgow. Prices seem to be coming down here at least. I like the watch , but , I never had a SKX so I can't compare , however , the Seiko 5 range has always had dive "style" watches like the 55 fathoms and the gold bezeled one which name escapes me atm. I have the baby orange monster 5 too , I like the range. Sadly I don't think SKX fans will make any dent in Seiko's profits by boycotting them or change the way they are heading . Maybe it was a move to push Orient upwards? I suppose the Islander watch is the way people need to go if they want the upgrades or the hemdallr .
Very valid arguments, Oleg. For 300 $ one can buy the SKX-homage Islander by Long Island Watches, with similar case and bezel, sapphire crystal, screw down crown and 200 meter water resistance. By the way, the rough finishing on the hands is deliberate. It's beautiful in macro shots, and stand in contrast to the (surprisingly)very fine polishing on the indices.
A good review of the new Seikos. I would wear one as a beater watch. HBC is great for discounts and sales but I suspect they have to wait one year before they are allowed to discount the new lineup. I saved $250 on a new Victorinox dive watch last year, at HBC.
I basically agree. It’s not a bad watch, but its not an SKX replacement. They basically took an SKX case and modified it into a Seiko 5 Sports. I personally would not buy one of these, they are way too expensive, and most of them I do not like. I have some Seiko 5 Sports models, all of which I find more interesting then these. I really not happy with a lot of the new Seiko releases. The new King Turtle I found very disappointing, dials I really dont like and a cyclops over the day/date that completely ruins it.
I bought one ,2 months ago, let’s be honest, they made the skx for 20 yrs , thousands were produced so will be easy to buy good second hand one for a couple of yrs to come , and you could still get a brand new one with inflated price , I like winding and hacking , don’t dive so not bothered about I s o , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧

I want one even though I have a SKX007. I love the SKX but not been able to wind it has always been a bugbear. I don’t plan on even swimming in it either so not been a screw down crown or 200m WR is not a problem. Cannot understand why they went for a crystal caseback when the solid one with wave was legendary plus the WR might of been 150. They are way too much money when compared to the Orient Kamasu which is much better (I have one of those too), so I shall wait till prices tumble.
Hi Oleg, how are you? great review and I really enjoyed it. I have owned Seiko 5 few times, but not anymore (all sold off to buy something else). And by looking at the watch, specs and pricing, I really do not think that I want to buy Seiko 5 again. As for the new marketing strategies of Seiko, moving up the low end to low/mid ends, $300 and up, I think they are doing it because of many mainland Chinese brands ($65 to $110 range) using NH35 or the clone of NH35, with better specs (at least on paper, such as solid end links, screw in bracelet and milled clasp and 100 to 200 meter water proof..etc). of course, I understand that Parnis, Pagani, Corgeut..etc aren't even nearly close to Seiko name and reputation, but just looking at the specs and specially pricing, it would be really a tough proposition for Seiko to complete with those brands. I might be very wrong, however, just looking at the trends, it just seems like it. Anyway, Oleg, if you have some your input about this matter, please let me and us know. thanks a lot and have a good day.
Thanks Alex. I think Seiko is trying to get out of entry level watch market and move to a mid-range. Quite the battle they will have but with good marketing I think it's possible (as much as I don't like this strategy).
Go with Marc long island islander watch....fully lumed ceramic/sapphire bezel, sapphire crystal,applied indices, iso rated, hack and handwinds for 300usd
3:30-3:40: "The bezel lines up perfectly with the 12 position on the dial so I thought it might be a fake Seiko." 😂 If I had bought this Seiko and found that it aligns perfectly I would have returned it to the store immediately and insisted on getting my money back - I do not tolerate glaring defects such as perfect alignment on my Seikos ! 😅😅😅
This watch is not a skx replacement nor it's targeted to a watch fan that has a lot of knowledge about watches. It's used the most popular case shape from the entry level and very colorful designed in inorder to get intention from someone who's buying their first automatic watch. The price is high imo, retail should be $300.
Here in UK they seem to have been overpriced , at least for the last two years. £300 - £499 on Amazon UK. If there's anything more frustrating than being told a watch is $200 / £175 then seeing the price we get charged here is almost double , I don't know what it is , especially to a Scot 🤣
Nice watch, I think a side by side comparison with the SKX could be very interesting :-) My problem is, for USD 350 there are imho better watches on the market (microbrands). I don't like the see thru caseback....the non screwed crown...and things like that, for that price. Seiko 5 is, for me, the beginner range ... but priced to high for the SRPD.
Great review....i like the watch, the SKX needed a facelift and to me this is it....the green is superb and many of the other offerings are outstanding....there's a brown one that I couldn't stop looking at, the shade is cool but the faux wood texture comes across more as an emoji 💩....I asked several people what there first thought was when I showed them it and the emoji was what they all said....am I right or do I need to change my social circle....🤔😂🤔😂....the watch overall seems to be fantastic, the strap options don't concern me as more often than not I'd switch out for a NATO....one of yours or a quality leather would look amazing on these....water resistance, is a funny one, 💯 m is fine for myself and most of the people that would purchase one of these....not sure exactly what goes into ISO certification but I'd trust them if they continued with the same manufacturing process (i suspect they are) and stated 200m resistance rather than diver 200m....I do like an open case back, even the most rudimentary of movements are attractive to me.... sapphire v acrylic, I would prefer sapphire for longevity....the movement upgrade is still an old movement, proven to be reliable....does this updated model represent good value for money, to me "no"....at this price there are plenty of other options....still like it though....⌚🏴⌚🏴
I can't get on board with what Seiko is doing at this point. I will always think of my snxs79j1 when I think of the Seiko 5, an affordable everyday watch with great looks and a workhorse movement. I like it so much I may flip my sarb035 and make it the only Seiko in the collection
I just bought the SRPD79K1 (stealth black) over this and boy am I regretting it. Here I am still lusting over this SRPD75K1. Reason I went with the black one is because I already have a green dial watch (alpinist 2020.) Shouldn't have let my brother and the salesperson tell me to go for the black one. I could go get this one from the shop, but I think it's just ridiculous making another purchase just a week after I chose between this and the black one. *facepalm*
I agree , David , that watch people say this , but I suspect it's the people who buy a watch once every few years or so that the new Seiko proposition is aimed at. The watch community can be a bit of an echo chamber at times but maybe they'll look and see the success of the islander type watches and throw out some form of skx prospex special edition. Wonder how much more people would be willing to pay for updated movement and sapphire to get the Seiko name ?
I can only agree. Seiko watches are not worth of money 💰 they are priced. Technology is far behind Citizen or/and Orient. Small diameter and small mechanisms . Company is still thinking like in 60ties. Astron, all model and Grand Seiko are far overpriced. And a life expectancy is much much shorter comparing to Swiss Made. But it is only my private opinion😬
I never had any interest at all in the SKX - I just found it to be incredibly boring, and the no-wind / no-hack thing was a deal breaker anyway. With the 5KX there are at least 4 or 5 variations I would happily own - my fave being the one shown in this video. Keyboard jockeys will scream bloody murder until they are blue in the face over the price increase and Seiko will laugh all the way to the back as they sell these by the truckload.
It's slightly ridiculous that other companies making SKX homages (Long Island Watch) can do all of this but for hundreds less, and add sapphire crystal. The new Seikos are decent, but I find the price hike almost not worth it. They've always been a great entry level watch for everyone to enjoy, with super durability and so much fun for the dollar. At this price?? Eahhhh......I'll wait.
While I like the different types of dial colors, I can honestly say, I will not purchase one of these. First, there are so many reasonably priced Seiko 5’s out there still that I still want. Second, I am so incredibly satisfied with my SKX011j. To me, this was a dream watch. One of the iconic details on a Seiko for me is that Tsunami engraved caseback. I always had that goal of “someday” owning a Seiko with that caseback. It would signify a step up for me personally. Paying that price for a new “5” and getting that caseback seems like a letdown.
I saw them for $261 on sale at the Bay. I like them and was going to get one but 42 mm is just to big for me. I am disappointed. If they made a 38 mm . Great . Ps . Did you really pay that much for the watch ? Omg . Like i said it was $261 on sale at the Bay in Toronto .
Hi Oleg. I know you did your best to review this watch, but it is not worth the 300 to 350 dollars they are going for. You can get a much better watch for that money. I think you can get some Hamilton watches for that or Tissot. Islander watch which I wish I knew someone who had one to try it on. They are much better watch with lumed Saffire bezel and sapphire crystal. 200 meters of water resistance. 300 USD. Several colors. Seiko 5 had 5 things and I think Day and Date are two of them and one of them was value for money and this is really a rip off for sure. Not even a screw-down crown. I think 200 dollars is where they should be at. But no one will care at Seiko what I have to say.

Tell me about that time you descended further than 100m. I'm all ears. It sure would be nice if people stopped perpetuating myths about water resistance. At a depth of 50m - deeper by far than most people ever go - a 100m watch isn't any less water resistant than a 200m watch.
I think they're trying to abandon their Seiko 5 Market I think they're trying to become more upscale if you ask me. It seems to me they want Orient to do their heavy lifting in the cheap watch division sorry I mean affordable and that new one is definitely a winner with sapphire crystal that red dial one is just absolutely stunning but back to the watch I have to agree with your take it was so close to Greatness and they blew it. They needed Sapphire and a screw-down crown in a minimum of 150 meters if not 200 of water resistance. It's like they've always said the only thing that's constant is change our beloved Seiko brand is leaving us working class steps behind that's okay we've got citizen there's several micro brands that can scratch those itches
I have the 007 and 009 both of which I have added sapphire crystals to. The SKX is an iconic dive watch. This new 5sport Is not a dive watch Nor is it a replacement for the SKX. Seca missed out on an opportunity to improve And update one of the best watches they have ever made. Instead they decided to Turn it into a ‘dive style’ watch And add it to their Seiko 5 line!?!? And they want us to pay more for less...Boo Seiko...Boooo. I have 7 Seiko watches in my collection and have owned many more over the years. My most recent purchases would’ve included A turtle and a chronograph from Seiko But I decided to go with purchases From other manufacturers… Instead of those two purchases I bought a Zelos Swordfish and a Spinnaker Croft. Next stop is a Citezen

I'd like to see the amounts of each sold , side by side? Casio F91 has been the world best selling watch for years. You don't kill the golden goose , maybe although it's popular amongst the watch community the skx may not be a big seller outside of what is a very vocal minority.
Why would someone buy this one over the legendary skx? You can also buy any orient diver at that price. I'm a Seiko fan, but would not buy this, not even if i was a millionaire.
I tried so hard to love the SKX series from the beginning.. there are few chance that i could buy the SKX but it just not my cup of tea. And the latest chance to buy a SKX but i did end up with Orient Kamasu. And now this new seiko sport is just another more NO..

If they were priced at about $250 CAD I'd consider one, but at $400+ I'll go with an interesting micro brand, or save my money for a Hamilton/Tissot.
I got a Hamilton khaki field automatic on sale for $500 CA in Toronto I love the watch. Swiss made.
I picked 2 up on sales - didn't pay more than $180 US each. Keep an eye out and you can find them from time to time. At $180, these are great watches.
Those "entry level" Swiss options will have worse lume than a Seiko. For $400 you can buy a Turtle or Samurai from Amazon or a gReY mArKeT dEaLeR.
Go look at the Islander ISL line of dive watches man. About $285 USD.

I bought the SRPD61 and SRPD79, got them both on sale for about $180US on two separate sales. I'm a big fan of them, but the SKX never did it for me.
That's a fair price for SRPD watches.

Making it part of the 5 range gave them an excuse for just I00 m and non screw down crown If they just updated the skx range with the same movement and charged $50 more ,everyone would be happy and it could go on forever .Can you imagine Rolex discontinuing the Submariner ,their best known and iconic model?
My favorite one has been the green one with the rippled dial, but but I could be tempted by the Brian May one if it's not too expebaive
The price I paid makes this great value - I don't need 200m nor a lume on the bezel insert, and the Hardflex is meant to be good - you don't get sapphire with the SKX either. The criticisms are a bit picky - does it look cool and tell good time?
I bought the green one with bracelet for £189 here in Glasgow. Prices seem to be coming down here at least. I like the watch , but , I never had a SKX so I can't compare , however , the Seiko 5 range has always had dive "style" watches like the 55 fathoms and the gold bezeled one which name escapes me atm. I have the baby orange monster 5 too , I like the range.
Sadly I don't think SKX fans will make any dent in Seiko's profits by boycotting them or change the way they are heading . Maybe it was a move to push Orient upwards? I suppose the Islander watch is the way people need to go if they want the upgrades or the hemdallr .

Very valid arguments, Oleg. For 300 $ one can buy the SKX-homage Islander by Long Island Watches, with similar case and bezel, sapphire crystal, screw down crown and 200 meter water resistance.
By the way, the rough finishing on the hands is deliberate. It's beautiful in macro shots, and stand in contrast to the (surprisingly)very fine polishing on the indices.

Marc has an awesome lineup in terms of specs, but it doesn't have the unique Japanese design of Seiko.
A good review of the new Seikos. I would wear one as a beater watch. HBC is great for discounts and sales but I suspect they have to wait one year before they are allowed to discount the new lineup. I saved $250 on a new Victorinox dive watch last year, at HBC.

I basically agree. It’s not a bad watch, but its not an SKX replacement. They basically took an SKX case and modified it into a Seiko 5 Sports.
I personally would not buy one of these, they are way too expensive, and most of them I do not like. I have some Seiko 5 Sports models, all of which I find more interesting then these.
I really not happy with a lot of the new Seiko releases. The new King Turtle I found very disappointing, dials I really dont like and a cyclops over the day/date that completely ruins it.

I bought the orange dial, and I like it a lot, except for the crown guard. It makes winding a real chore. The price is a bit much for a Seiko 5.

I want one even though I have a SKX007. I love the SKX but not been able to wind it has always been a bugbear. I don’t plan on even swimming in it either so not been a screw down crown or 200m WR is not a problem. Cannot understand why they went for a crystal caseback when the solid one with wave was legendary plus the WR might of been 150. They are way too much money when compared to the Orient Kamasu which is much better (I have one of those too), so I shall wait till prices tumble.

Hi Oleg, how are you? great review and I really enjoyed it. I have owned Seiko 5 few times, but not anymore (all sold off to buy something else). And by looking at the watch, specs and pricing, I really do not think that I want to buy Seiko 5 again. As for the new marketing strategies of Seiko, moving up the low end to low/mid ends, $300 and up, I think they are doing it because of many mainland Chinese brands ($65 to $110 range) using NH35 or the clone of NH35, with better specs (at least on paper, such as solid end links, screw in bracelet and milled clasp and 100 to 200 meter water proof..etc). of course, I understand that Parnis, Pagani, Corgeut..etc aren't even nearly close to Seiko name and reputation, but just looking at the specs and specially pricing, it would be really a tough proposition for Seiko to complete with those brands. I might be very wrong, however, just looking at the trends, it just seems like it. Anyway, Oleg, if you have some your input about this matter, please let me and us know.

Thanks Alex. I think Seiko is trying to get out of entry level watch market and move to a mid-range. Quite the battle they will have but with good marketing I think it's possible (as much as I don't like this strategy).
Go with Marc long island islander watch....fully lumed ceramic/sapphire bezel, sapphire crystal,applied indices, iso rated, hack and handwinds for 300usd

This watch is not a skx replacement nor it's targeted to a watch fan that has a lot of knowledge about watches. It's used the most popular case shape from the entry level and very colorful designed in inorder to get intention from someone who's buying their first automatic watch. The price is high imo, retail should be $300.

Here in UK they seem to have been overpriced , at least for the last two years. £300 - £499 on Amazon UK. If there's anything more frustrating than being told a watch is $200 / £175 then seeing the price we get charged here is almost double , I don't know what it is , especially to a Scot 🤣

I don't like the see thru caseback....the non screwed crown...and things like that, for that price.

Great review....i like the watch, the SKX needed a facelift and to me this is it....the green is superb and many of the other offerings are outstanding....there's a brown one that I couldn't stop looking at, the shade is cool but the faux wood texture comes across more as an emoji 💩....I asked several people what there first thought was when I showed them it and the emoji was what they all said....am I right or do I need to change my social circle....🤔😂🤔😂....the watch overall seems to be fantastic, the strap options don't concern me as more often than not I'd switch out for a NATO....one of yours or a quality leather would look amazing on these....water resistance, is a funny one, 💯 m is fine for myself and most of the people that would purchase one of these....not sure exactly what goes into ISO certification but I'd trust them if they continued with the same manufacturing process (i suspect they are) and stated 200m resistance rather than diver 200m....I do like an open case back, even the most rudimentary of movements are attractive to me.... sapphire v acrylic, I would prefer sapphire for longevity....the movement upgrade is still an old movement, proven to be reliable....does this updated model represent good value for money, to me "no"....at this price there are plenty of other options....still like it though....⌚🏴⌚🏴

I can't get on board with what Seiko is doing at this point. I will always think of my snxs79j1 when I think of the Seiko 5, an affordable everyday watch with great looks and a workhorse movement. I like it so much I may flip my sarb035 and make it the only Seiko in the collection
I just bought the SRPD79K1 (stealth black) over this and boy am I regretting it. Here I am still lusting over this SRPD75K1. Reason I went with the black one is because I already have a green dial watch (alpinist 2020.) Shouldn't have let my brother and the salesperson tell me to go for the black one. I could go get this one from the shop, but I think it's just ridiculous making another purchase just a week after I chose between this and the black one. *facepalm*
Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the new models and the direction Seiko seems to be going.

I agree , David , that watch people say this , but I suspect it's the people who buy a watch once every few years or so that the new Seiko proposition is aimed at. The watch community can be a bit of an echo chamber at times but maybe they'll look and see the success of the islander type watches and throw out some form of skx prospex special edition. Wonder how much more people would be willing to pay for updated movement and sapphire to get the Seiko name ?
I can only agree. Seiko watches are not worth of money 💰 they are priced. Technology is far behind Citizen or/and Orient. Small diameter and small mechanisms . Company is still thinking like in 60ties. Astron, all model and Grand Seiko are far overpriced. And a life expectancy is much much shorter comparing to Swiss Made. But it is only my private opinion😬
Give it 6 months the watch will be priced around £220 so that will sit much better.

I never had any interest at all in the SKX - I just found it to be incredibly boring, and the no-wind / no-hack thing was a deal breaker anyway. With the 5KX there are at least 4 or 5 variations I would happily own - my fave being the one shown in this video. Keyboard jockeys will scream bloody murder until they are blue in the face over the price increase and Seiko will laugh all the way to the back as they sell these by the truckload.

It's slightly ridiculous that other companies making SKX homages (Long Island Watch) can do all of this but for hundreds less, and add sapphire crystal. The new Seikos are decent, but I find the price hike almost not worth it. They've always been a great entry level watch for everyone to enjoy, with super durability and so much fun for the dollar. At this price?? Eahhhh......I'll wait.

While I like the different types of dial colors, I can honestly say, I will not purchase one of these. First, there are so many reasonably priced Seiko 5’s out there still that I still want. Second, I am so incredibly satisfied with my SKX011j. To me, this was a dream watch. One of the iconic details on a Seiko for me is that Tsunami engraved caseback. I always had that goal of “someday” owning a Seiko with that caseback. It would signify a step up for me personally. Paying that price for a new “5” and getting that caseback seems like a letdown.

Hi Oleg. I know you did your best to review this watch, but it is not worth the 300 to 350 dollars they are going for. You can get a much better watch for that money. I think you can get some Hamilton watches for that or Tissot. Islander watch which I wish I knew someone who had one to try it on. They are much better watch with lumed Saffire bezel and sapphire crystal. 200 meters of water resistance. 300 USD. Several colors. Seiko 5 had 5 things and I think Day and Date are two of them and one of them was value for money and this is really a rip off for sure. Not even a screw-down crown. I think 200 dollars is where they should be at. But no one will care at Seiko what I have to say.

Beautiful watch Oleg but 100m and Hardlex crystal no screw down crown it is a bit of a disappointment especially at this price i think Seiko are being greedy ans Seilo are my favorite brand so its not easy for me to criticise them but it must be seat they are too expensive for what they are hope as you say the price dose come down.
The Seiko 5 was a starter automatic for many people my self included but at this price people will go to other watch manufacturers.

Tell me about that time you descended further than 100m. I'm all ears. It sure would be nice if people stopped perpetuating myths about water resistance. At a depth of 50m - deeper by far than most people ever go - a 100m watch isn't any less water resistant than a 200m watch.
I think they're trying to abandon their Seiko 5 Market I think they're trying to become more upscale if you ask me. It seems to me they want Orient to do their heavy lifting in the cheap watch division sorry I mean affordable and that new one is definitely a winner with sapphire crystal that red dial one is just absolutely stunning but back to the watch I have to agree with your take it was so close to Greatness and they blew it. They needed Sapphire and a screw-down crown in a minimum of 150 meters if not 200 of water resistance. It's like they've always said the only thing that's constant is change our beloved Seiko brand is leaving us working class steps behind that's okay we've got citizen there's several micro brands that can scratch those itches

I have the 007 and 009 both of which I have added sapphire crystals to. The SKX is an iconic dive watch. This new 5sport Is not a dive watch Nor is it a replacement for the SKX. Seca missed out on an opportunity to improve And update one of the best watches they have ever made. Instead they decided to Turn it into a ‘dive style’ watch And add it to their Seiko 5 line!?!? And they want us to pay more for less...Boo Seiko...Boooo.
I have 7 Seiko watches in my collection and have owned many more over the years. My most recent purchases would’ve included A turtle and a chronograph from Seiko But I decided to go with purchases From other manufacturers… Instead of those two purchases I bought a Zelos Swordfish and a Spinnaker Croft. Next stop is a Citezen

I'd like to see the amounts of each sold , side by side? Casio F91 has been the world best selling watch for years. You don't kill the golden goose , maybe although it's popular amongst the watch community the skx may not be a big seller outside of what is a very vocal minority.

Why would someone buy this one over the legendary skx? You can also buy any orient diver at that price. I'm a Seiko fan, but would not buy this, not even if i was a millionaire.
I tried so hard to love the SKX series from the beginning.. there are few chance that i could buy the SKX but it just not my cup of tea. And the latest chance to buy a SKX but i did end up with Orient Kamasu. And now this new seiko sport is just another more NO..
