A big yes for the epiphone relic video!
Even bigger yes for the captain car drag challange
That Björn Gelotte model is beautiful. He's been very underrated for a very long time, so it's nice to see him finally getting his own sig!
+Josh Delikan He's had that signature since 2012 or 10 I believe. But yeah, I love his riffs, he's very underrated.
+SIMON Are you sure? I thought that this only got announced last year. He may have had it as a personal custom for a while, but I'm sure that the publicly available signature model demonstrated here is very recent.
Josh Delikan Yea, in 2011 he used in the "Deliver Us" music video. And it got released to the public to buy in 2014/15. (Here in Sweden at least)
+SIMON Ah, I thought so... I know that it got announced a while back but I hadn't been following it to know when it was *actually* available!
Cool that you're from Sweden, by the way. I've been to Gothenburg about twenty times! Beautiful country!
Jeff Waters is a freaking beast guitar player! \m/
Hell yeah, the V was awesome! Annihilator is a truly great band and Jeff is such a magician on the guitar. He actually uses these guitars live.
YES!
AAAAH the way the cord is being pushed by Chappers' leg on the V AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Yeah you seen that I thought it was going to break lol
+WTFDalis
Its better with an angled jack.
Matt Heafy plays his epiphone on stage too! It's an absolutely amazing guitar
You guys should review Matt Heafy's ( Trivium) signature epiphone that he actually uses.
Yes!
YESSSSSSS
this!!!
and the Love/ Death Flying V Epiphone
I wish that was the point, it's a great idea, maybe rob will review gear he finds around on his travels (HINT HINT) but it is still a music company after all, everything that they purchase they will advertise to sell (although with a bit more authenticity than any other retailer I've ever seen). What people say about Chappers n the Cap'n "not saying all there is to be said" about the gear they advertise is total BS. These two appeal to the demographic of musicians who ultimately know their stuff but would like more input from another source than just the internet. demo-ing with feedback straight from the the player is a perfect way to gauge if you want to buy an instrument or not, quality, and sound, being that, that instrument is not possible for you to test. It's like pseudo-tesing it yourself, It's just authentic. Love this channel, don't live in the UK, but with a business like this, I almost wish I did. Awesome and hilarious videos, I'm sure everyone could agree on that! :D (srry, this turned out to be a lil speil)
I had the original Epiphone Annihilation-V that was a solid red color. As far as the sound and playability, it was excellent. The neck was fast, the pickups were great and the kill switch is an awesome effect. What I liked better about the older model was the neck-thru design vs. the bolt-on. It just gave it a more high-end look & feel.
the "cow noise" editing had me rolling :*)
I've pre ordered the flying v, can't wait. thank you rob and Lee for introducing this guitar to me.
It’s been 7 years, I need to ask how did the Jeff Waters epiphone serve you ?
i saw the thumbnail and instantly wet myself over Jeff and Annihilator
same here!
Jack on the V is in a really BAD place
jup
beat me to it!
+Kevin McVann That's nothing new for a V. Probably wouldn't really get in the way if you used a right angle connector though.
+Kevin McVann I dont like the placement on any of those.
it looks like it was designed to be used with a right angle jack to a wireless unit
That demo at the start has to be one of your best.
NexKing4414 nothing beats the Marshall Astoria intro
Cracking so hard at that cow toy sound bit and Captain's reaction.
Now I'm hyped for that versus video!!
Bought an Epiphone, haven't regretted it for a single moment.
An affordable flying V was 24 frets coil tapping and a kill switch? Now you're talking...
looking forward to the budget epiphone relic video!
Yes do the relic challenge
+Chip B i second this
And they should show video of how they relic it
Chip B. I also second your idea
Björn Gelotte is actually Swedish (from Gothenburg). Maybe the name Gelotte is originally Danish but in Sweden we pronounce it something like "Chelott", though I have never heard himself pronounce it.
Anyways: GREAT guitarplayer and a GREAT guitar!
Mine is setup for C-tuning (Björn uses C and Drop A#-tuning).
I guess epiphone ships all guitars in standard E regardless of what the artist uses.
+Andreas Andersson Mine is in drop C ..Amazing guitar but the Captain couldn't show its power- metal !!
I keep my Bjorn Gelotte sig in drop A - its superbly hard to set up for such a low tuning - i have no idea how he pulled it off without having problems with intonation and scale length.
But still - love the guitar - love tuning it up to A# every once and a while and play some In Flames tunes.
Probably my favorite guitar player of all time and one of my favorite bands of all time (old in flames up to new in flames)
I usually don't like Vs, but that Annihilator sounds freaking killer
i like it cos it's 24 frets and a killswitch button
That White Lightning Les Paul makes me want to use it to make a Steve Clark Les Paul.
+RyanThompsonGuitarist Add another humbucker and a Floyd Rose.
What about the Matt Heafy Epiphone signature model? Guitar with awesome features at a pretty reasonable pricing!
Did I spot a little dig at Bon Jovi there?
+CSGuitars I love you in a completely gay way
Frankly that's probably the best way to love me
that White Lightning is absolutely gorgeous. I love the sound effects in these videos 😂
Rob you're looking clean with the new haircut my man!
The ''flute'' sound made me laugh when the Captain pulled out the white epiphone case from the groud at 16:44. Fuuuiiii!
haha! :p
I know my comment is 3 years late but I recently bought the Bjorn Gelotte Les Paul Custom model thanks to this video and I have no regrets...Epiphone DOES make great guitars and very affordable as well. One of the best purchase for me 👍🏻
The Jeff Waters guitar is amazing annihilator is one of my favorite bands
+GeneralDave I love annihilator
What a total co-inky-dink. I was only wondering a few days ago whatever became of Jeff Waters. Legend.
I bought the tommy Thayer guitar a year ago, it play great, stays in tune well set up and with ghs gbxl boomers it sounds great. best 700 bucks I ever spent on a guitar bar none. and beautiful to boot. great case nice slim 60s neck and seymor Duncan jb pickups rock. 10 rated guitar
After watching your vids with Lee, I have to say, I am very impressed with how much Lee has progressed as a guitarist. It's a pleasure to watch you both! Thanks for some of the best guitar related content on RUclips.
Awesome chops! Yes, I'm talking about the cow noise toy. Congrats!
I'm fascinated by the Epiphone Tommy Thayer guitar. Great looking and different with beautiful tone.
24;23- "...and the award for most botched hand-based greeting goes to...."
You guys are the living embodiment of the handshake/greeting section of "Very British Problems" on Netflix; it friggin brilliant.
relic challenge. make it happen.
Yeah I'd love that
+danielpants Yes!
+danielpants It'll be a relic-off
guys I have owned 3 Gibson les paul standards, tobacco burst 1976, 1981 les paul custom cherry burst, a les paul standard in black, and a Gibson les paul studio in dark blue. played in a band for year in 70s and 80s, bought my tommy Thayer les paul white lightning and ill have to say its the best playing and sounding les paul ive ever had period. perfectly set up from the factory, great seymore Duncan jb pickups and grover tuners. the guitar is heavy as lead and I love that no hollowed out mid part of the mahogany body. beautiful paint and the chrome parts are beautiful. I set my own guitars up and this one is a dream boat.!! id pay 1500 for this guitar before if pay 1500 for a les paul Gibson standard.
you are obviously lucky to have found one like this,or you are actually confused and playing a gibson.
ive owned several Gibson Les pauls and they destroy the 5 epiphones i currently own.no epiphone out plays any Gibson, they cant, they wont and they dont.they have cheaper non mahogany wood, much cheaper hardware, considerably cheaper electronics, way cheaper pickups.
i own both, epi's are not and have never been better than any gibson, sorry friend.
+wayne smith don't be sorry it's a great guitar. so we're the Gibson's but this doesn't have the cheap you pickups they are Seymour Duncan jbd
Matt heafy from trivium probably has my favorite signature epiphone
+Matt Marshall I've got one and it's absolutely brilliant, especially for the price
...I'm ashamed to say I rewinded and played the reverse cow noise quite a few times. It's too good.
I didn't know what you meant by upside down cow toy until you made the sound, then I understood completely and was actually very impressed with how accurate it was.
It's funny that Jeff Waters and Annihilator are a pretty big deal in Europe and the UK, but barely anyone in Canada remembers them except for the diehard metal fans of the 80's. It's a shame really. They're great. Jeff himself has said aside from the occasional gig around his home town they don't play in Canada because they don't feel there is enough draw to support a tour. Meanwhile they play festivals, arenas, and large clubs in Europe that pay well enough to not require getting a day job. It probably doesn't hurt that, last I heard, he does all his own bookings and doesn't have to pay a manager or a booking agent to handle the business end.
yes but can you imagine living in a country where even metal fans/rock fans/etc etc barely knows bands such as Annihilator? I've been a die hard fan (bought a lot of their CD and even have their autographed postcard from their Annihilator album, the shipping is ridiculous but worth it just for the sake of having it) for years and its depressing to know they'll never come here. And that I'll have to go overseas to chase em :(
I own 7 les paul Gibson customs, this bjorne guitar is awesome. I gig with this regular as if I knocked it I won't have a heart attack. The price really don't justify how amazing the guitar is. Great work Epiphone!!!!
never going to get used to short-hair Chappers :D looks good tho
I cringe everytime he presses the cable against his leg on that V. It really is in a bad place. It should be a bit higher.
+LudiChuck yeah it seems like it should really only be used with a right angled cable.
+LudiChuck Or just put it on the front like others gibson flying V.
+LudiChuck Damn I never saw it at first but now I have....*shudders*
+LudiChuck Trust me, it's not a problem, i have the previous version, and it's in the same place. I even use cheap cables..
+megahurtz30 I guess so... but still, I think it would be better if it was out of the way. It sure can cause problems.
Jeff Waters is my idol (I'm not even a guitarist, I'm a drummer) and this is the best video I've seen on the new V. Thanks Rob!
Matt Heafy from trivium plays his own epiphone les paul models, a 6 and 7 string version, for the exact reason to show fans that you do not have to have the most expensive guitar to play well, he said in interviews if he didn't play the version epiphone put out what kind of message would that send, why put your name on something if you're not going to back it. Always had respect for guitarists like that
A shame the new Brent Hinds V isn't in this vid.
was just about to say and the bill kelliher Explorer probably one of the best signatures because both guitars have got the signature pickups from lace maybe it'll be in a future video
+David Oakes - V vs V!!
did u see there's a non English review of it from last week?
My son! I come from the future. All is good, the video has been made
Rob, I may need to get you a 'Get Well' card because your playing during this entire video is absolutely sick.
i haven't watched yet but I have been waiting for all 3 of these demos, I was thinking about buying all 3, especially the waters smd that Thayer, the Thayer looks sick! all 3 in 1!
yes.....epic epiphone relic competition,
Whenever I'm down, I come here just to listen to those "cow noises" over and over
Its so good and i'm happy afterwards.
2:19 ftw
Cool to see a piece of gear I own (Bjorn's LP Custom) in Your show and listen to how it plays in your capable hands, thank You :)
Why are these edited like a humorous youtubers videos? I'm not complaining it's amazing
That colourway is majestic
Really liked the jam at the beginning of this video!
The Bjorn Gelotte makes me extremely excited... In Flames We Trust \m/
That Jeff Waters V is so godly.
Yes can't wait for the relic Epiphone video!
I can vouch for the Jeff Waters Annihilator. I have the previous black model and it plays great. Besides the red color, this have some cool improvements. Looking forward to the vs video!
I'll vouch for the phenolic fret boards. My epi thunderhorse has one. I was leery at first, but I actually really like it. Bending is really silky smooth on phenolic.
Keeping it clean and shiny is super easy too! Just squirt a little WD40 on a cloth, wipe it down, then wipe it off and it looks brand new
I got a Tommy Thayer at the start of the year and I love it such a great looking and sounding guitar and of course I got it from Andertons
Great video. Can't wait to see the relic versus video- awesome!
Greatest discovery of all time
Thanks guys, I enjoy all your videos! :)
Definitely looking forward to the relic video!
looking forward to the 'relic challenge'. Just done one of my own - lots and lots and lots of FUN!!
Another awesome JHS Pedal is the Muffeletta
Impressed with the tones Lee was getting out of that black LP.
the Tommy Thayer les paul sounded absolutely mega...dunno if that was partly due to the signal chain that Lee and Chappers were playing through, but hot damn it sounded good
I love epiphones so much. I want an Epiphone les Paul pro so badly! great guitar
do the relic challange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The irony of Lee talking about the Tommy Thayer signature guitar strap and saying it was "Ace" - LOL.
Ah Annihilator is amazing love jeff waters and his work
I think that is the coolest "V" I have ever seen.
The Tommy Thayer model in the hands of chapman is a wonderful beast.
The captains been at my clothes line again!
Chappers....the clean cut version...you rock dude..Love the Cap'n too yall do a great job on the demos!
that white les paul looks so freaking cool
More versus videos please, they are so great. Cheapest rig challenge to see which one of you two can get the best time for the lowest price. Smallest rig challenge, smallest physical size rig with the best tone. They are so much fun to watch, I'm currently in the process of doing a similar guitar to what you made @Rob Chapman in the custom guitar video. Keep it up guys thanks for all the great videos.
I like how they mixed jesterhead logo with the gibson logo on Bjorn's guitar :)
The Lee Malia signature is a stunning looking thing!! :-)
That tone is awsome. This is why I need to got a Marshall amp and cab instead if my ancient G3OR CD combo XD
That V did something to chappers
Rob looks really good! I feel like we havnt seen him in a while!
rob's hair tho damnnnn
lookin classy af
I REALLY want to see this relic video!!!! That will be amazing :D
-T
pls pls pls do the Brent Hinds epi v
THIS!
Yeas yeas yeas noooowww
there's a Brent hinds epiphone?!? I need that!
it's just come out! it's silverburst :3
YES
I love that FLYING V! so sick.
I gotta go play my favorite V, right now!
I love your new hair, Rob.
The black Lester custom with the Emg's is killer. And what a savage case too. Nice 👍
Hell yeah, bringing the challenges back!!!
I'd get the Jeff Waters Flying V and leave it pretty much stock, but I'd take out the EMGs in the Bjorn Gelotte model and replace them with either a set of passive Seymour Duncans (probably copying the Tommy Thayer setup) or the EMG 57/66 set
I'm sure I'm super late to mention this, but I'm too lazy to go through all bazillion replies to check...
The Phenolic fretboard should be "Richlite". It's currently very popular with cutting board makers. Gibson and Martin (and a few others) have been using it for fretboards as it's a lot easier to get than alternate natural materials and it's very stable.
The material is wood-pulp & resin, produced under high pressure. It's been around for about 75 years and it's historically been used as a template material in machine shops.
As a guitar Fretboard, it's supposed to be reminiscent of Ebony, in that you can get it in a uniform black (or a variety of other colors if you really wanted to) and it's fairly smooth.. in that it lacks grain at least. It's also EXTREMELY hard and dimensionally stable... just what you'd want in a fretboard.
I've been meaning to pick up a large sheet of it for a variety of uses... exterior panels on my very old house (it's used as an architectural panel too because it's tough and weather resistant)... fret boards.. other rand-o projects. I just have to figure out where best to order a 4' x 8' sheet from.
YES Please do a DIY relicing video. That would be amazing.
I know this is an old video but seeing how In Flames is on the top of my list i have to say, that is a really great Epiphone but Björn actually uses a Gibson Les Paul with EMGs for most of his gigs. Great video and i wish that more would use a killswitch on guitars like Jeff, really cool feature ^^
Will have to get the Jeff Waters model, plus extra kudos as he plays the exact same model (although has been seen to play a floyd rose style bridge as well)
''One of the founding guitarists in KISS wasn't fit to play and was replaced.''
''They should have called Phil X.''
Nice pun,Chappers, actually it's a double pun,on KISS and Bon Jovi.
When you were talking about artists who use Epiphone, Matt Heafy is another good example
The white one sounds aaaaawesome!
Björn Gelotte, not Bjorne
Bjåårn
That tiny icon I am using is a quilt top maple double cut abalone binding. FRALIN pups. One at a time hope you show some killer customs!
