I did tell the Prof before we started filming that I thought he had his X & Y axis the wrong way around, but he told me that he was the one with the 15 degrees, a masters in thermonuclear physics & a doctorate in astro-psycho-4-dimensional-timetravelling-exothermic-reaction, and to mind my own business. I beginning to wonder if he was even a real professor.....
Since there will eventually be a million 8th graders grilling you on the x and y axis thing Ill give you a comeback. Since you did not LABEL the axis with a +x or +y direction, your statement is perfectly valid, assigning a term for the axis when one is not stated. Could have called it the 'Jan Cyrka' and 'Albert Cummings' axes and still woulda been right. (PS if you have heard of those 2 check em out)
+CaptAnderton It is common practice in astro-psycho-4-dimensional-timetravelling-exothermic-reaction studies to flip the axes of a gimball-to-weight-per-flimflam graph. He must have been doing research the night before on this, simple mistake.
But does he plays twice as good as the Captain or does the laws of diminishing returns also applies and the cost of hiring him as a consultant is not correlated with the value he brings? Is that why we don't see Dr. Bypass more often?
These videos are my go to thing when I'm feeling shit with anxiety, I absolutely love them and admire Rob & the Captain immensely. Thanks for the great channel and for putting a smile on my face when I need it most ☺ Best wishes to the both of you, Bea and the rest of the crew.
X and Y are arbitrary locations, you can call whatever one X as long as the other is Y or whatever. He didn't even label them so they could be whatever.
What I'd really like to see is a video on the difference in quality between the most expensive epiphone vs the cheapest les paul (or ltd vs esp, squire vs fender etc) I think that would be really interesting :)
+Eryk Gembalik problem is, a lot has changed in QC in Epiphone in the last 4 years or so. they're churning out really good semi hollows and LPs. way better than 2012 models. and Gibson with their titanium nuts and better fretwire and Gforce etc. could be interesting
The Epiphone standard is 10 times better than a Gibson Les Paul studio. I had 3 different les paul studio's and they all sucked! Just awful! I have also tried the Epiphone Les Paul Studio and i think it's at least 5 times better than a Gibson Les Paul Studio. For the price you pay, you get so much more with a Epiphone than a Gibson.
I'm only just over a minute into this video and it's already the best video you guy's have ever done. And I say that having watched your videos for years now.
Thank you for an excellent assessments, accurate to a "T." I never worked in a music store, but I am more familiar than most people. I played my first paying gig in 1969. The marketing schemes are amazing. Even though the "cheapest of the cheap" may be looked upon with a skeptical appraisal... the "cheapies" are better than a lot of guitars one can find elsewhere. Fender and Gibson have automated a lot of what once was hand-finishing by a skilled craftsman. There is something to be said for modernizing the process. Cheap guitars made today are finished/ produced to a more consistent standard compared to what was made 40 years ago- which benefits all. The video pointed out some short-comings regarding the frets between the 12th fret and rhythm pick-up- guitars been that way for years. Nothing that a proper file or visit to a luthier won't fix. I (sometimes) play a J. Reynolds LP style guitar for slide stuff and have an old Stella as well for acoustic. I am very fond of my cheapies and they sound great (to me). I love your videos and assessments. The Captain and ...what's his name??? are both great players. Cheers from Wisconsin USA
Coming home from Work and watching your latest video was really funny and relaxing. Nice mix of entertainment, information and advertising. I watch this channel for about a year now and it still goes better and better. Thumbs up from Germany!
Man you guys always brighten my day. Thanks so much for putting these out there! Please consider coming to the States and running for President/Vice President. Best from Virginia, USA
A couple of things people forget when they start debating the prices of guitars: 1) Value is subjective. 2) Prices are fundamentally set by supply and demand. If people didn't want them, they wouldn't be expensive. Also, when you start getting into the REALLY expensive guitars, other factors come into play besides just playability and tone. For example, a high-end guitar made by a famous craftsman - or whatever - might appreciate in value over time; so the guitar becomes a financial asset in itself. On the other hand, you're probably going to struggle to sell an Epiphone or Squier for more than what you paid for it. Even American Gibsons or Fenders, that aren't custom-shops, might struggle to break even.
So true. I had a limited run Gibson (not custom shop) a while back that I bought used for $1500. When I was forced to sell it a few years later, I struggled just to get that back. The local economy had tanked and in spite of seeing recently ended eBay auctions of the guitar selling for slightly more than the new price of $2500, I barely managed to get back $1500, which is the typical price for a used production les Paul around here.
no mate in this case price is fundamentally set by the cost of the components and time put into putting the final touches if it was just supply and demand then someone would just make more of the higher standard guitars, cut costs on production with standardization and completely undercut the current "premium" guitars it's just that at some point no matter how much more time you put into the guitar, you can't really keep increasing its value indefinitely it takes more and more time investment to make smaller and smaller improvements it's just the nature of it
No it really is just supply and demand. If this person you speak of would just make more of the higher standard guitars, cut costs on production with standardization and completely undercut the current "premium" guitars..... They wouldn't be THE Gibson brand Les Paul 58 reissue. The demand for the guitar this someone created would not exist. So that someone would have to drastically reduce their selling point until they reached the happy medium where demand exists and production can meet demand. In this scenario, if you are speaking of Gibson. Their supply is intentionally low on this 58 reissue intentionally inflating the selling price. If they flooded the market with them there would be too much supply and thus they would drive their price down. No guitar actually costs 8k to make. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but it really is just simple economics.
but if you standardize and cut costs on production, the ammount of work that goes into each guitar decreases and so does the price I'm not saying the two are mutually exclusive, but even if no guitar costs 8k to make it's also not true that the highest end guitars only really cost 500 to make if the ammount of work that went into a guitar was around the 1k mark but the market was so flooded that you couldn't sell them over 800 then you'd have to stop making them or go bankrupt
What I'm saying is the difference between what it takes to make this 58 rI Les Paul and a $4k custom shop les paul is probably less than $100. They created a level of production that drastically restricts supply. Thus making supply unable to fulfill the demand which in turn makes it twice as valuable for only $100 more cost. Simple economics. No supply where demand exists creates inflated prices.
Near the end of the video, Chapper's Gibson sounded a bit "nasal" coming from the Fender Bassbreaker, while the Epi in "Prof. Drew's" hands sounded a bit more "open" using the Egnater. I heard it once before that, given the choice, put your money into your amp more so than your guitar.
I may be in the minority, but my favorite videos are the ones where Capt. And Chappers talk more than play... Their chemistry is just great. More Drew Bypass!!
this is what abbott and costello would've looked like if they were guitar players. you guys are awesome! i love the mix of info and funny you guys always do. :D
A 600 dollar Taylor probably doesn’t have a solid wood body, but a 700 dollar yamaha probably has one and I bet it is pretty close to a solid body 2000 dollar Taylor or Martin. I’ve found that more expensive acoustics usually have more bling in the cosmetics (inlays and stuff) and have more exotic woods, but sound, get a solid wood guitar with a decent preamp, you are set.
Love it!!!! Captain out...Professor in! I personally own an Epipone Les Paul Studio (worn cherry) and being only a beginner (father's day last year) I think the law of diminishing returns is definitely relevant. You should get what you want and can afford and when you have amassed enough experience and can justify the expense of a Gibson standard then go for it. At the end of the day, if it makes you happy, who cares what anybody else thinks.
nobody would ever say a bmw would go 5 times faster than a fiesta, but the difference in quality and workmanship is pretty obvious and easily worth it. I don't know if there is that much difference between say a mex fender and a gibson or an epiphone and a prs, but It would be interesting to see a comparison in the exact accuracies of tunings, amount of sustain, number of different frequencies. Could be very surprising!
what about a video where you compare a "package" in price ranges? like this but a guitar, amp and drive pedal for £250 then one for £500 then a grand etc etc. to show this in a bigger light.
Could you make whole video only about those differences between brands. I mean which company do their job best. If the most expensive squier is better then the most expensive epiphone, ltd and so on and so on ?
SuperBlueSpartan yeah i know that. But I am not talking only about squier and epiphone, there are so many brands owned by those huge companies. I am just sayin if this would be possible:) i only want to know more, thats why i asked.
Thank you for making this video. I've been preaching this for years! You DON'T get 5 times the guitar for spending 5 times as much. The only reason I could see spending $4000.00 + on a guitar... is that some of them eventually go up in value.
"On the x axis here" *points to y axis* "and on the y axis" * points to x axis* Not complaining, just thought it was funny. Love these videos. Rock on!
I use an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro, it's a great guitar for a musician on a budget. If I had thousands of dollars to spend I would end up purchasing a custom guitar. ( custom Gibson )
I've seen every one of Chapman's videos ... this has to be, in my estimation, the best. I laughed the whole way through but I did actually feel genuinely educated by "Professor" Lee ... I mean ... Drew Bypass. Well done.
The Epiphone LP Special II sounds like a Les Paul, looks like a les Paul, so it is a Les Paul in my eyes. It doesn't seem half bad for a first or even second guitar.
It would've made a great first electric for me because my first electric guitar was a cheap $100 starter kit with a Strat knockoff. But my parents just wanted to be sure I really wanted to play before getting me an expensive one. Now I play a '92 or '93 Gibson Les Paul Studio.
as much as i love your demo videos. its the entertaining videos like this, that make me properly LOL that are the best !! if you could do more challenge videos too that would be great !
That performance was stellar, Lee -- I mean, Professor Drew Bypass! More Drew Bypass! Also, pretty sure that Bassbreaker could make a soup can strung with rubber bands sound like a tone monster...
Good video, guys. I give you props for saying this as most retailers would at the very least not want to advertise this. You are paying for prestige/bragging rights once you go above a certain price point with any product. This video also shows that the amp and pedals are much more important to the sound. A more expensive guitar SHOULD play better without significant set up, i.e. fretwork, up to a certain price point though.
Just one person on the internet with an opinion I thought to share. The point was to say that I'm not a music personality or star, just a fan of good music and tone :)
+ArielsSmartyPants could well be the amp, or the player tbf. there are far worse guitars, and better. like in everything i guess. i played an ibanez gax30 recently and that was cheap. the pickups were great!
It's all what you prefer regardless, no matter the quality, the cost, the ideal, the components. If that's the sound you like or are after it makes no difference what delivers it.
the first scene had to have been one of the hardest scenes to film ever just because of how serious captain had to be. i was on the verge of laughing the whole time
I did tell the Prof before we started filming that I thought he had his X & Y axis the wrong way around, but he told me that he was the one with the 15 degrees, a masters in thermonuclear physics & a doctorate in astro-psycho-4-dimensional-timetravelling-exothermic-reaction, and to mind my own business. I beginning to wonder if he was even a real professor.....
+CaptAnderton you are extremely great and funny hahah best video since the Miku pedal .

LOL nice Mr.proffeser! Hope we get to see more of you😄😄😄
+CaptAnderton professors Drew Bypass, Toney Wood and Olly Valveamp will be publishing a paper clearing the matter up very soon
Drew Bypass plays guitar way better than the Captain.
haha :D
+JamCave Studio no shit bro, pulled some sweet licks
agreed :)
wholly agree :)
But does he plays twice as good as the Captain or does the laws of diminishing returns also applies and the cost of hiring him as a consultant is not correlated with the value he brings? Is that why we don't see Dr. Bypass more often?
Ever notice how Prof Drew Bypass and The Captain are never in the same room together?
+Guy Fieri Go back to flavour town.
Will do (ಠ ͜ʖಠ)
+Guy Fieri Illuminati Confirmed !
+Guy Fieri *dramatic music plays in the background*
+Guy Fieri Mind = Blown
"Incremental… err… price… err… increments." I love the Captain! :P
The captain? Where.... I didn't see him?!?
You mean Professor Bypass
Dan Dunning his name is drew bypass. Get it right
These videos are my go to thing when I'm feeling shit with anxiety, I absolutely love them and admire Rob & the Captain immensely. Thanks for the great channel and for putting a smile on my face when I need it most ☺
Best wishes to the both of you, Bea and the rest of the crew.
Can we talk about the fact that Drew Bypass is using a selfie stick as a pointer.
Brad Lawrence Didn't realized that until ye pointed that out. On reviewing the vid I was like, "Dang, he's right!" LOL
I feel honored to have even watched a video with the great Professor Bypass. A true legend of our times.
Epiphone: You get what you pay for.
Gibson: You pay for what you get
exactly!
Isn't it the same thing, I'm confused..
+Ali Rafiei It means Gibsons are overpriced.
Epiphone: garbage
Gibson: garbage
Custom shop: actualy get what you pay for
+Colonel Gayfur but it's too expensive yet not really worth it
Love these videos. These two guys are having entirely too much fun doing them.
it bothers me too much that he got the x and y axes mixed up
X and Y are arbitrary locations, you can call whatever one X as long as the other is Y or whatever. He didn't even label them so they could be whatever.
+BattMarn I think its funny.
+BattMarn it bothers me how u spell axis
+flip3213 the plural of Axis is Axes (AK-SEES)
+Goldendroid y not axises
What I'd really like to see is a video on the difference in quality between the most expensive epiphone vs the cheapest les paul (or ltd vs esp, squire vs fender etc)
I think that would be really interesting :)
arent they all cousins to each other? I mean Gibson and Ltd are the original creators right?
+cuauhtemoc morisco Epiphone was not created by Gibson. Epiphone was bought out by Gibson when they were about to die.
+Isaac Morales
that being said, Epiphone today is basically just Gibson Jr.
+Eryk Gembalik problem is, a lot has changed in QC in Epiphone in the last 4 years or so. they're churning out really good semi hollows and LPs. way better than 2012 models. and Gibson with their titanium nuts and better fretwire and Gforce etc. could be interesting

You all will have to keep Drew Bypass. He is the MAN.
Prof Drew Bypass's voice reminds me of C3-PO xD
That professor Bypas is an awesome blues player, such a shame he couldn't jam with the Capt
countdown to professor drew bypass shirt has begun
I'm only just over a minute into this video and it's already the best video you guy's have ever done. And I say that having watched your videos for years now.
did he made a mistake with the x and the y axis?
yep
+GermanGeneralLP yes, yes he did :D
But it actually doesnt matter at all, you can use a and b as the axis names, but i think it was unintentional
+GermanGeneralLP I knew the Prof got that wrong - what a dufus - I bet he's not even a real professor!!
+GermanGeneralLP he did, lol
YESSSSSS... that was NEXT to the Miku pedal. One of the most ENTERTAINING video i've seen you guys do.
KEEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! LOVE IT!
Thank you for an excellent assessments, accurate to a "T." I never worked in a music store, but I am more familiar than most people. I played my first paying gig in 1969.

This video was really fun and funny but also educational. I hope you guys do more vids like this going forward.
I love the Captain ! :)) this made me smile. Good acting meister !
More entertaining and informative than almost all TV available in the UK. Sparkling!
I enjoyed the video tremendously. Very funny and creative!
This is by far the funniest video to date guys, excellent work, please keep them coming
Cap's intro was fantastic. He did his homewErk.
Coming home from Work and watching your latest video was really funny and relaxing. Nice mix of entertainment, information and advertising. I watch this channel for about a year now and it still goes better and better. Thumbs up from Germany!
This is why I fucking love these guys.
You gents seem to have an immense level of fun doing your very entertaining and enlightening videos. Kudos!
Wasn't there a scandal recently involving Prof Drew Bypass and his assistant, Dr Anny Logue?
+Ben Fentem No, that was Prof Bypass and Dr Tony Wood.
+Stuart Arcari I thought he was caught out with that lady of financially dictated morals, Val Vamp?
You're right. I was thinking of Kyle Tapped. He's the one who lives on Ovver Drive.
Ok, those were bad...
+Stuart Arcari I thought Kyle Tapped was doing the nasty with Mable Neck?
+Ben Fentem No, his bit on the side is Ebony Nut. Mable Neck is banging Floyd Rose.
Had me cracking up first thing this morning. Great way to start that day. Thank you guys!! Your the best!!
Prof. Bypass > Dr. Epiphone
Battenberg! You guys are awesome, been a faithful fan since very near the beginning. Keep up the sweet tones and sick licks my dear fellows!
The prof. and the capt. Have a similar playing style
Man you guys always brighten my day. Thanks so much for putting these out there!
Please consider coming to the States and running for President/Vice President.
Best from Virginia, USA
A wise man once said: "A 90% increase in price for a 10% increase in performance."
Oh, hey, whoa, that is NOT . . . inaccurate.
this is by far the best video (comedy/information wise) you have ever done, and a really important point is made

no mate
in this case price is fundamentally set by the cost of the components and time put into putting the final touches
if it was just supply and demand then someone would just make more of the higher standard guitars, cut costs on production with standardization and completely undercut the current "premium" guitars
it's just that at some point no matter how much more time you put into the guitar, you can't really keep increasing its value indefinitely
it takes more and more time investment to make smaller and smaller improvements
it's just the nature of it
No it really is just supply and demand. Prof Bypass should be a regular occurrence on the channel, his vast expertise is greatly appreciated!
Most entertaining and enjoyable chappers and cap'n video in a LONG while! New high water mark has been achieved!
lol You guys are awesome! Love when you do vids like this! :)
Economics and guitars, it doesn't get much better than that. Great video!
Man, can only think about how good that Bassbreaker sounds with any of these guitars...
+Matt Burdock which one is that? I'm buying of those beautiful little bastards. Probably the 15w head.
I may be in the minority, but my favorite videos are the ones where Capt. And Chappers talk more than play... Their chemistry is just great. More Drew Bypass!!
I can't wait for Tony Wood. 11/10 wordplay.
+Infernis Lesly I don't believe in Tony Wood.
Drew Bypass... You guys never cease to amuse me!
The zoom in at 8:45 cracked me up haha.
now that's the captain that we all know and love. absolutely great video.
I mostly play my Hagstrom F-200. I own 2 Gibson SGs and 2 Fenders. The f-200 costed 299.99. It even sounds better!
Hagstroms are awesome!!
this is what abbott and costello would've looked like if they were guitar players. you guys are awesome! i love the mix of info and funny you guys always do. :D
Prof. Drew sounds like C3-PO.
This is hilarious Professor! Looking forward to your next class!
I'd like to see this on acoustics. What does a 3k Martin get me that a $600 Taylor doesn't.
Andrew Threadgill pretty much nothing. Not much you can do to improve an acoustic
Tone wood and Unicorns.
A 600 dollar Taylor probably doesn’t have a solid wood body, but a 700 dollar yamaha probably has one and I bet it is pretty close to a solid body 2000 dollar Taylor or Martin.

I had a BMW for years.. One of the worst cars I ever owned.
The Captain pulled down deep for this performance - kudos to you, sir!
holy fuck im usually not a fan of robs playing but that lick at tge beginning was SICK
omg we need more Prof. Bypass in the chap show! also hahahahaha the editing in this was amazing "piunds"
what about a video where you compare a "package" in price ranges? like this but a guitar, amp and drive pedal for £250 then one for £500 then a grand etc etc. to show this in a bigger light.
Omg what a cracking job. Absolutely pissed my pants. Well done captain :)
Could you make whole video only about those differences between brands. I mean which company do their job best. If the most expensive squier is better then the most expensive epiphone, ltd and so on and so on ?
so as the cheapest ones.
Expensive Epiphones are so much better than expensive Squires. It's insane in the differences.
SuperBlueSpartan yeah i know that. But I am not talking only about squier and epiphone, there are so many brands owned by those huge companies. I am just sayin if this would be possible:) i only want to know more, thats why i asked.
You mean like EXACT? Like diagrams? Cuz I can't help you there, just giving you some personal opinions :)
One of the Best vídeos of Rob and Capt...I mean, proffesor...since Gibson vs epiphone!
I'm american but, did he get the x and y axis's mixed up?
I fucking love the way you prefaced that with, "I'm [A]merican, but..."! That shit is hilarious!
Sean Dignan #ScienceLivesMatter
Sean Dignan Ah, I did misunderstand, thanks for clearing that up. You may proceed with digging nan, Sean.
You are correct sir!!
Im assuming he was asking if there is a cultural difference but science is generally universal.
Thank you for making this video. I've been preaching this for years! You DON'T get 5 times the guitar for spending 5 times as much. The only reason I could see spending $4000.00 + on a guitar... is that some of them eventually go up in value.
You know what? I reckon that Drew Bypass was actually the captain dressed up
Pull the other one, mate.
Fake news
Nooooo
Heresy!
Holy FKn Sht! I don't know WHY? But that made total sense and never heard it explained better. We need more of this guy!
"On the x axis here" *points to y axis*
"and on the y axis" * points to x axis*
Not complaining, just thought it was funny. Love these videos. Rock on!
could listen to you guys play all day, awesome
hey i had an idea what about a video on clip on tuners i never really see people cover a wide range of clip on tuners at one time
this was a really good episode. thank u guys! n ur outro jam session is the shyit!
I use an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro, it's a great guitar for a musician on a budget. If I had thousands of dollars to spend I would end up purchasing a custom guitar. ( custom Gibson )
Somewhere between a tweed jacket wearing pipe smoking Oxford University professor and C3PO. Love you guys haha : )
Millions of the $150 guitars are lost under beds and end up in pawn shops ... most of them are never played
I've seen every one of Chapman's videos ... this has to be, in my estimation, the best. I laughed the whole way through but I did actually feel genuinely educated by "Professor" Lee ... I mean ... Drew Bypass. Well done.

R. Andrew Neal Must've been one helluva test man.
Gaming Guitar Player I was thankful for it and played it a lot, but finally got a good one.
drew bypass is a true jem of a fellow, genuinely likeable with brilliant guitar skills!!
the captain on the other hand, idk??
Thought I was listening to Brian badonde at the beginning.
Boh
Bo bid Bi
Stewie Griffin
This was a great idea guys! Enlightening. Keep doing these great videos!
You got your x and y axis mixed up
Given this is a vid by guitarists and for guitarists I'm pretty sure the x-y mistake was not purposeful. ;-)
as much as i love your demo videos. its the entertaining videos like this, that make me properly LOL that are the best !! if you could do more challenge videos too that would be great !
To me, the sweet spot for guitars is the $500-$600 range.
I try to get second hand ones in that price range ..then you get the extra bit of quality without the extra price
Killer! Love it, had tears rolling down my face. Well done lads :)
When he asked, "who's a well known explorer"? I yelled.....Dora!!!
These are easily the most fun guitar-related videos available.
"Guitar Lessons with Bubbles" greheheasy boys!;-)
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods DECENT.
Awesome video! Definitely brightened up the start to my rainy day!
What amp Rob is using please help......
fender bassbreaker
15 watts
That performance was stellar, Lee -- I mean, Professor Drew Bypass! More Drew Bypass!
Also, pretty sure that Bassbreaker could make a soup can strung with rubber bands sound like a tone monster...
WE NEED MORE DREW BYPASS
first time watching. Love the prof character, keep up the good work.
"The well known explorer", I thought of Dora.
spot on with the soloing today, really digging in it
I thought the Epiphone Studio sounded a lot better than the others.
More economic theory classes please.
Great to see a video featuring diminishing return , particularly from the owner of Andertons. Thanks.
I liked the sound of the special myself, but who am I?
Just one person on the internet with an opinion I thought to share. The point was to say that I'm not a music personality or star, just a fan of good music and tone :)
+ArielsSmartyPants could well be the amp, or the player tbf. there are far worse guitars, and better. like in everything i guess. i played an ibanez gax30 recently and that was cheap. the pickups were great!
I don't believe $$ = tone.
it's all physics. it's all what you prefer to a degree. though component reliability will be greater in more expensive guitars. up to a point.
It's all what you prefer regardless, no matter the quality, the cost, the ideal, the components. If that's the sound you like or are after it makes no difference what delivers it.
You guys are absolutely nuts! Love it. :)
Awesomely Pythonesque! You guys are so creative. I still dislike Rob's new hair.
the first scene had to have been one of the hardest scenes to film ever just because of how serious captain had to be. i was on the verge of laughing the whole time
