I agree with standing your ground. I was parked in Coquitlam, in bed at around midnight 2 guys shook my van. Before I could react, I heard one of them say "I am going to try the door". He opened the side door (I neglected to lock it when I went to bed) I yelled from bed " NO THE FUCK YOU ARE NOT!" They practically trampled one another fleeing. They did not expect someone inside. I just got dressed and got the hell out of there. I recently adopted a pup to join my journey. Glad to have my own head of security haha!
I can’t wait! I graduate from college this week and then I’m focused on this process and I’m headed to Vancouver to hang with family. This lifestyle is so perfect for me and I’m shocked that more people don’t do this. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love Canadians ♡ I have met a lot in Hawaii. I wish I could live in Canada, been wanting to since a child If your here in the States, those knocks would be the popo... they don't want people to have their freedom. You inspire me Chrome ♡ Aloha
Kick A$$ Chrome, you totally rock, and Disco wins the prize for his bravery too! Bear spray is always good to have handy, just in case you meet one when you go hiking. And if I ever have the pleasure to knock on your van, I'll bring the beer my friend! Cheers! ; )
I needed this Video I Was Bullied Relentlessly in H.S....So Much I Quit...I'm Not A Coward but I dont. Like confrontation....I'm 56 And I'm Just now beginning to love myself...I Love Your Channel I broke well fractured my shoulder and when I get back to work I want To Start Helping your cause You and your Boyze Disco&Cruze been taking my mind places and off my pain...Thankyou for that God Bless You I Been rolling van life in my head for a few years now once I'm better I'm gone To start putting me first and living my life to be happy.....again I love your video be safe and God Bless You.......
I thought you were going to break your steering wheel!!! That was one he'll of a knock, especially if you had been in a deep sleep. I probably would have fallen out of bed after hitting my head on the ceiling of the van!
Attention to the guy that knocked on Chrome's door ... beware of an adorable dog 🐶that could easily bite your head off if you keep on knocking and disturbing the peace. Stay weird & keep warm as always a great video. Sending hugs 🤗 to Chrome and Adorable Disco! 🐶😎
Being a woman, it’s different. We are vigilant because we’re treated like prey. Luckily we have great intuition that helps keep us safe. I love that since I’m old enough to have lost my looks I’m less likely to be preyed upon for being female. It’s not possible for guys to know what it’s like. I liked watching your response though. I could do that. I can be scary as hell if I want to be 😇🤬😇
You are so right. As a woman, and just because you are a woman, some men think you are pretty. I'm like you, too old to worry about it. But...I personally know what you are talking about.
Thank you for helping me find tha confidence to move out of my dads basement, and take a leap of faith. Im saving up for my Van right now! Your vids make adult life seem easy and fun if you can make it. If only more parents were more like you! You are a living example that we can still be self sufficient without selling out our individuality. thank you guys :)
Good morning my friend!! Great to see your face(s)😜 people knockin on my van would be the least of my worries. If the van is a rockin. .... Have an awesome day. Thank you for the daily dose of inspiration 😄😄😄
I love it. Mistaken identity in a stealth cargo van. You should have asked about her channel on RUclips. Better, you could ask if she had cool shirts and stickers or a dog. Vanlife rule, you knock you buy a sticker.
You definitely strike me as a man who would not take too much of too much! Lol! That guy probably pissed his pants when he seen your not so happy face? Lol! But I really hope the lady he's looking for is ok? Well I guess your going to need a nap today huh? 😉 Have a wonderful week and Thank you for sharing your journey with me.
Great reaction and good advise. I think when living in a van and parking on public property, the knock is probably inevitable. Best to be prepared with a response to the knock. You are right, about the typical Canadian response, I am sure I would have started the conversation with sorry, sorry, sorry. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am generally not afraid but timid when it comes to standing up for myself. Great advise, I will try to remember.
Something similar happened to me, not that I got a banging on my Tracker but that I watched this kid(late teens early 20's)swagger around the parking lot checking car doors, he got to my Tracker and couldn't see that I was inside, my windows are tinted, he stood a foot from the front looking in so I powered down the window and asked him "what's up? Can I help you?", he was startled and jst sort of waved and swaggered away. He had no power over me, his reaction was surprise, lol it works, he got nothing from me. I breathe. Stay weird.
You have a great attitude about it all .. but I must interject, also , that I think that that “ fear” is a bit or a lot less programmed into men , than women ... in general ... I’ve found that most men don’t seem to have as many fears, when it comes to physical safety and confrontation ... I think much of it is “programming “, but much of it is also the reality .... I had a toy store for 28 years, and watched the little boys just totally fearless at pretty much everything , while the little girls would show more hesitation and be more guarded... is just a generalization, for sure... always exceptions to be seen .. anyway , I love your channel, your attitude about things , and your love for Disco :-))) and his love for you :-)) he has that face that only a mother could love !!! HA!!!!!🐶 Keep up the great work !!! Safe travels .
What you say makes sense, and we appreciate your 2 cents worth....it appears that not just women possess a 6th sense......in life.....Van City Van Life, all Canadian style. Have a great day, Chromee...you and that vicious "guard puppy" stay safe and dry. 🦄🐝😎🤠 Ya ever thought of some small perimeter cameras, strategically placed for overall sight security, wherever ya roam. Seems like some necessary wish list items to keep you and the pup "in the know" safely and from a little distance, from whatever goes bump in the night. Glad ya survived "the knock" and kept your coolness. Stay weird.....Oh. ☺
I love u guys! You and disco are the most interesting man and dog I have ever followed on youtube. I am getting my van soon and hope to be on the road heading for the places I have never seen before. And I owe it to people like yourself that make my dream posible. I also want to meet u in person some day and disco of course. Stay free my friend.
We have armed police here in USA unlike some places & are really ramping up our military so we are #1 again. Did get broken in to but I pound wall back when I hear it being touched & that has worked very well. Just keep an eye on it.
Yep THAT’S BECAUSE ITS 🇨🇦, I live in Dominican Republic and Van Life is only a Dream to have on the safety of my house with thick bars on windows n doors. 🏝🍀✨✌🏼
Great reaction, Chrome! Every van dweller will sooner or later run into a “situation”. When someone is apologetic and friendly it helps to react calmly. It is rare (if you choose the right area of town and site) to run into someone who wants to do you harm. My motto is to be prepared for the worst scenario-but react calmly. Example: I carry a shotgun and hand gun, couple of knives, hornet spray (cheap alternative to pepper spray), and taser-all are handy IF I really need them; I never have. The closest I’ve come is two teenagers pounding on the van as they walked late on a summer weekend night-when I yelled “Hey!” they ran away. Always, always, always park in a way you can leave by simply driving quickly away (best option except for police) Keep the escape route to the front or rear clear. Always have your van keys right where you can quickly get to them. Then, you can simply drive away. (Again, if a cop knocks on the van, just be friendly and ask if okay to park there.)
we were at the club one night ..many moons ago...and a girl made fun of my room mates shoes and she said to the girl when it is stuck up your ass we can all laugh...lol...the girl cowarded away and we kept on dancin...loved diana she was a bad ass
WOW I think I would have grabbed the GUN, but for some weird reason I just knew you was about to say after you let down the window, the guy was like “WHATS UP CHROME” I’m a subscriber 😃 Your reaction to the banging, and the way you would handle a situation is just that typical LEO instinct, trust me I know. (LEOS UNITE)👍🏾
Please be a bit wary of people searching for women. Many women are escaping domestic violence situations. Even if you've seen this woman, please think twice before answering. If people want to be found, they usually don't live in a van and tell no one where they are. Be safe!
Great story telling! I felt like I was there! I am glad that was nothing serious for you. I chuckled a bit :). I hope this man finds his sister. He has a long night ahead of him, almost all vandwellers are in generic white vans. Also, even if he finds her, he is going to scare the crap out of her!
I’m in the United States and feel safe camping in my van, but haven’t lived in it full time. The city I live in has a lot of vehicle break ins, so maybe I’ll move to Vancouver if I go full time, lol.
Hey Chrome (and everyone else too!) I just came across this older video but wanted to let you know about this since it happened in Canada as well, and there could always be new issues out there that we don't know or hear about because we are traveling. Chrome, you and Disco were the first to come to mind, but so many van dwellers travel with their pets, that I wanted to put this out there somewhere as a PSA. Please pass this info along. Keep an eye out for anything made in China and head's up, don't buy it! Buy only fresh, human-grade healthy treats for your fur-babies and stay safe out there my friends! ♡
I agree. Our minds can definitely get the best of us. Yes, I've had shit happen to me, but 99% of the things I imagine & worry about never happen. Waste of mental energy, waste of life if you let the fear limit what you do.
Us Americans are a bit edgy because its like the Klingon Impire around here, some places can be similar to the wild west. We have firearms, and LOTS of them. There's no going back either. Bang Bang on your door like that could very well end up with a barrel in your face. We stand our ground with firepower and with good reason. People love ya bubba Chrome, and their concern is showing the love. I've looked at a barrel pointed at me a few times, been in the wrong spot and got my ass beat pretty bad. For the most part its very chill with good company and with consideration of where your at.
You handled it just fine, if you had felt that the threat you would of known how to act, you were chilled out. If you had felt a threat I bet you would of stepped on the metal and gotten out of there, so moral of story, your home your rules, you handled it like a pro, how other handle it is on their own dime. You are a pro no worries out your way.
Welcome to the "cop knock" club! Now its official. Your a certified van dweller. This is what it takes lol. Just wait until you have wild geese knock on your door.
Well I definitely realized from watching the 1st few that you and I sir have a lot in common and that is why I keep watching well that and I’m looking to downsize my life but for the most part our lives kinda have the same story other than I sling the ink.
I’ve had a lot of knocks ...in parking lots it’s always security in shady areas in LA in can be thieves knocking to see if anyone is in the vehicle, but they’ve always walked away so I’ve been lucky. I never answer the door or let anyone know I’m in the my van. Most places in the states even the police can’t do anything if they can’t determine if you’re actually in your vehicle. So, I just let them knock if it’s security when they finally drive off I just move.
I've seen many van life videos in the U.S. who've talked about the "dreaded knock" and almost all of them pretend not to be inside...staying quiet. My biggest concern is that my two dachshunds WILL GO OFF and they will NOT STOP either...so it's going to give me away or at the very least going to make whoever is knocking be an ass about leaving animals in a vehicle...I won't be city parking though...thankfully here in Washington there's lots of great beautiful camping areas (a lot of them free) for boondocking. And I do have some friends who are going to let me park at their place with an area for my dogs to be out and about, so I'm really not all that worried about it :)
Go Disco haha. If you ever make it out to the east coast, feel free to park in our drive way, hubby and I will make you a good supper . Why is gas so expensive in BC?? Here in NS it is $1.16 a litre.
LOL yup, one day i will travel those 4,900 km from Montreal to knock on your door with some beer and treat for Disco. Thinking about mooving to BC, in my van of course ! Keep making thoses great weirdo video !!! take care man !
I lived in Florida for years. One summer we had four hurricanes. Thousands of home owners had their homes destroyed or damaged. The thing about hurricanes is they're slow and you have a lot of time to get out of the way. I plan to live in a van soon and if a hurricane is approaching I'll drive far away like up into Georgia for example and avoid the trouble.
Youre awesome, great points and im happy i dont feel i need to point a gun all the time. Ive crossed canada about eleven times and half was alone. Im safer in my van than my house just as youve pointed out. I fear the deers!
I'm glad that you are happy being Canadian. I am happy being American. Let's not knock each other, ok? I've been to Canada several times but the worst experience I ever had was in Canada by Canadian LE; probably won't ever go back. By the way, I live in Chicago and the dude below knocking Chicago is full of ****.
You are absolutely right. My adult daughter and I sleeping in the living room of an apartment we had just moved into, were awaken by the bedroom window opening and the blinds thrashing about...I whispered , ....Mija...there's someone coming through the window...she jumps up, walks toward the bedroom yelling. " Hey What's Up" !!! Quickly, he yelled back.." Is so and so here? (Don't remember the name) ...She Yells Loudly...YOU GOT THE WRONG HOUSE HOMIE! ....the person says, oh shit I'm sorry, I'm sorry!! My daughter surprised me...she doesn't even talk that way...all forceful and tuff..Lord have mercy...thank the Lord she acted in this manner..who knows what would have happened ! So, yes...be aggressive and confident, take control....absolutely!
I recently adopted a pup to join my journey. Glad to have my own head of security haha!
OMG Disco "head of security"! LOL Love that He rocked his job and was ready to "go"! Awesome message for all of us. Love to you and to DMan!
As much as Disco likes to sleep he was probably just pissed off that someone had the nerve to wake him up.🤣
I live in the US and when l visit Canada l immediately feel infinitely safer. You live in a country where peace of mind is priceless.
Canadians on youtube are the most respectable and mello people on RUclips.
I can’t wait! I graduate from college this week and then I’m focused on this process and I’m headed to Vancouver to hang with family. This lifestyle is so perfect for me and I’m shocked that more people don’t do this. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great outlook brother, more people wether they be Canadian or American should think like you do. Way to go Disco!!!!
Disco: Head of Security!!!! I like that!! I hope they find their family member safe & sound!!!!🙏🏾

Glad you’re safe !! Yes Canada is an awesome country !
Lol yeah I don't worry either. I love van life. Rolling stones will be here in Florida next year, hoping to be here for that.
Well done Disco the guard dog !! Hope they find Laura. But I hope they don't frighten the life out of her by thumping on her van late at night !!!
Thanks for sharing your journey love yah Chrome and Disco
Attention to the guy that knocked on Chrome's door ... beware of an adorable dog 🐶that could easily bite your head off if you keep on knocking and disturbing the peace. Stay weird & keep warm as always a great video. Sending hugs 🤗 to Chrome and Adorable Disco! 🐶😎
I feel safer in my van than ANY place I have ever lived. People watch too many bad movies. Lol keep up the awesome videos.
That’s right Chrome, handle your business👌🏽we strive for peace, if not they can get a piece! 😎
When you said knife I was expecting a big Bowie knife 😂 I have a similar lock blade in my van 😂 👍
Great points! That's my biggest fear, the dreaded knock. Facing fears and conquering them is the goal.:-)
Disco will protect you
Lol my favorite part “Soarry Soarry Soarry!” Glad you’re okay and the story put my heart racing as well :P and good advice at the end

Yep THAT’S BECAUSE ITS 🇨🇦, I live in Dominican Republic and Van Life is only a Dream to have on the safety of my house with thick bars on windows n doors. 🏝🍀✨✌🏼
So happy I found you once am old enough this is how I want to do van life without spending all my money on something I might not like👍👍.
Gotta love them Canucks 🇨🇦
Glad it was okay. Disco looks so cute now after his security gig. xx

Yea yea! CANADA 🇨🇦!!!
That does sound stressful, but I'm glad things turned out well in the end. Yes, Canadians are so polite...I wish Canada would let me immigrate there!

Geese knock on your door?
I don't understand.
Is this a Canadian in joke?
Love your videos..... In a lot of cities in the US, you may not be able to just drive away. Vans don't move if the wheels get stolen.
Don't go into any cities in the US. I currently wouldn't even drive thru them - too many psychos.
You had me rolling about Ninjas knocking on your roof. 😂
AMAN Brother !! Live in Fear is even more reason to Leave that area of Fearville

Wanders With Weens honestly it’s the least of my worries...but I’ve had it more than once.
PSSST!!!! You are almost at 6,000 subs!!! WooooHooo! WEIRDOS UNITE!!!!
Do you ever worry about someone breaking in when youre out exploring? That is my biggest fear.
safety 1st . well said . good video
Great content! I live in my van and have yet to have any issues ! Also, I need that shirt!!!
Well I have never been worried about you, Chrome. But now I'm worried about Laura!
Chrome you have the best personality, very good looking & inspiring... no I'm not hitting on ya but if I was a little younger.... maybe
Go Disco haha. If you ever make it out to the east coast, feel free to park in our drive way, hubby and I will make you a good supper . Why is gas so expensive in BC?? Here in NS it is $1.16 a litre.
Don't be afraid. Viva the weird one and his side-kick...DISCO.....
Love your show I'm hooked on watching you, I day dream about going on the road
LOL yup, one day i will travel those 4,900 km from Montreal to knock on your door with some beer and treat for Disco. Thinking about mooving to BC, in my van of course ! Keep making thoses great weirdo video !!! take care man !
I love that you can just move!!!
Like your screen name.
YEAH!! That,s whats up!
At the same time...someone knocking on your van door at that hour of the night is pretty inconsiderate...but good on you for handling like a champ. 👍
Hahahahahah next time you knock bring beer XD
