    Oh my gosh, you have no idea how helpful this information was for me! Our TV was running so slow and I usually had to unplug it from the wall and it would go a little bit faster but then again it would slow down a lot again. I had no idea about these settings, thank you thank you thank you so much for helping me. It took me five minutes to get my TV running so much faster, thanks to you, I could just give you a big big hug, thanks again, you made my day!!

    The single biggest problem with Sony Android TV is the "Volume Control Display."
    The little volume window behaves like an "app" instead of "daemon" standby in the background memory. So when toggle the volume button on the remote, it can take up to 15 seconds for the volume "app" to launch just to display the volume level.
    This is INSANE!

    That cancelling/preventing the use of Samba actually works across even on the Philips and maybe other makes too, as it appears that tracking software is seriously hogging the TV system's resources processing time and/or gobbling up it's memory till can communicate with Samba server.
    That was certainly a neat trick by you and it worked on my Philips except I had to use the reinstall the TV, as to deny/cancel the Samba's permission to track your browsing history. Now, my TV works perfectly with no intermittent lag problems within the Smart Menu.
    Thumbs Up!

    Totally agree with these settings. However best experience is to use an external device such as NVIDIA shield, Roku, Apple TV, etc. And just turn off wifi/internet on this TV. Only turn the internet 0n to receive Firmware updates such as forthcoming Dolby Vision. Don't expect it to get any faster with future software updates as the hardware memory/soc is too limited.

    • @evl619
      @evl619 7 лет назад +3

      After seeing both models side-by-side, I would say 930E defiantly has better contrast thanks to its superior backlit module.
      I think it comes down to what kind of content source you gonna feed the TV with; If your only source of 4K HDR contents are through online streaming(e.g.. Netflix), it wouldn't be a bad idea to go for 900E and spare yourself some $$$. However, if you have a decent 4K Blu-ray player and 4K HDR Blu-rays are well available in your region, 930E will do those investments justice~

    • @jpluttme
      @jpluttme 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the replies! I don't plan on buying a 4k blu-ray player. Just looking for something that upscales/displays lower resolution content very well (first and foremost) and plays 4k digital content via apps and PS4 Pro. I'm also coming from an older THX certified FALD LG TV so I don't want to go with a set that is a noticeable downgrade visually. I've considered the C7/B7 OLEDS but prefer the brightness of LEDS and am weary of image retention (even though it's not much of an issue anymore from what people are saying.) My budget is $2k.

    Sir, you are a God! Thank you SO MUCH!! This has saved me throwing the TV out of the window! Could you do a follow-up on how to install apps from Google Play without spending a day pressing the install button and rebooting the page - that has been driving me insane! Plus why are so many apps on Google Play "not compatible with this device"?? What is the incompatibility issue? Can anything be done about it?? And finally, as I'm using the TV as a computer while my Mac is being fixed, can you demonstrate how to select using a mouse, not the remote? At the moment, I've got an old Windows mouse which works fine, but it seems that if I actually want to select something, I have to move the cursor with the mouse, but select using the OK button on the remote. Although this isn't always so 'cut and dried' sometimes the mouse wins and activates my selection, sometimes the remote! Finally can anyone suggest an email app compatible with these TVs, I've yet to find anything in Google Play that is compatible. So - thank you for a brilliant tutorial, and thanks in advance for any help with the above!

    You can also put Android into Developer mode (google it) and decrease the window animation settings
    by half--makes quite a difference navigating the GUI.
    I have a 900e and believe it or not, if your batteries in the remote are draining down, a new set will make a huge difference in speed going in and out of settings. I have also had this happen on different Android boxes that I have had so I recognized the symptom when I saw it on my Sony 900e.
    Hope this helps.

    • @brianolderfellow7379
      @brianolderfellow7379 7 лет назад +1

      Actually he does show how to do it and it makes a big difference.
      Don't forget the batteries in your remote--I kid you not, it makes a difference and it stopped my system from being unresponsive and having to double click settings.

    Simply disabling it will not stop the pop up. You need to go into it as if you are going to set it up then when you see terms and conditions you click decline and save. This will then stop the pop up permanently.

    This is precisely my reason for still loving my old but reliable non-smart full HD 1080p tv. All I need actually is the tv screen and a few interface ports. I've updated my home theater to an Onkyo TX-NR676E 7.2 system. I have practically never used my tv speakers or tuner. All my tv channel choices come from my cable box. Having a non-smart tv made me simply buy a cheaper streaming box/device like the Fire TV stick. All my source devices, including my laptop, are connected to my home theater AVR. I understand I can/t enjoy 4K and i'm not a video gamer. I love watching movies and musical videos and listening to the stereo. I'm tremendously enjoying my videos and music, and don't need 10,000 nits either. My almost 5-year old tv is just fine! Just a plain ol' vanilla guy.

    This isn't disabling the Samba pop-up on my 930E...*help*. I've disabled the app and then even double-checked and long-pressed the power button to restart the TV. It's STILL coming up. -_-
    EDIT: I just fixed it - the only thing that shut it up was actually going into Samba setup and disabling it *there*. The Samba Services app must be enabled and started to do this. You then have to doubly-confirm you want to disable it. What a hassle. =/
    Fingers crossed that it finally gets the hint.

    Update: The changes I mentioned below to get a quick power on/boot cycle only worked when turning the TV off and back on quickly. When turning the TV on after being off for a longer period of time (like an hour) still takes 68 seconds to boot and be operational. It goes from an Android splash screen to a Sony splash screen, to another Android splash screen with spinning graphics, then a black screen for a few seconds, then finally operational. Is this normal?
    Previous post: Thank you so much! About 4 months ago my Bravia did a SW update and it took about 90 seconds to boot every time I turned it on (Sony slash screen followed by Android logo). After following your instructions regarding Samba, Sony Select, and Sony Shelf, it now boots in two seconds! Those are the only changes I made.
    The only issue I have now is the OTA channel changes are not smooth. For example, if I try to change the channel up by 5 channels, it will go up and then back down by one or two channels or jumps between channels before settling on an incorrect channel. I have to either select a channel from a list, or take my time and only change go up or down slowly, one channel at a time, to change channels reliably. Do you have any ideas on how to "fix" that behavior?

    tip: if you hold down the arrow button you can scroll through that list of apps much faster.
    I get the "HueyModule has stopped" prompt now and again on my ZD9 which is super annoying since it doesnt time out. however disabling the huey module in apps often causes my screen to start displaying random black frames (screen goes black like it's lost input signal then it comes back a second or so later.) ultimately rebooting the TV gets things working as before but at the cost of getting that prompt appearing again.
    android 7.0 is a pretty poor experience overall TBH, worst part of owning a Sony tv.

    I'm sorry but I am afraid that all Android settings get reset after a TV restart. Just Samba will be gone for good since it has been disabled.
    BTW if you disable the notifications in Sonyshelf the "featured apps" (bloatware) in the Leanback launcher (Home) disappear for good, but moving the installed apps in the App section. That also helps.

    thank you for this great video. android tv has built up a bad reputation for being slow. I agree that the interface/settings can be simplified as not everyone wants to dive in and fiddle with them.with a bit of settings adjustment however it can be sped up significantly. by no means android tv is a bad software but unfortunately tv manufacturers to save costs have not implemented the best hardware available. think low RAM memory and slow cpu like in an old or cheap Android phone. Yet you can still speed it up and customise it. Just think that other platforms don't offer these options at all and those platforms get very limited updates, unlike Android. My recommendation would be to stick with Android TV platform.

    Weird... if I do these steps it won't list Netflix or spotify under apps on the home screen. Only, google play, RUclips, program guide, video, music etc.

    Hey! I got mine XF9005. It has Oreo 8.0 and firmware is v6.5631. And surprisingly it already supports Dolby Vision, as it appears at Netflix and also in the Image menu of the tv. Should I update anyway to the v6.6555? Seems to be almost the same... Thank's!

    Love your videos. Does the sony 900 f tv go into a deep sleep after a period of time. I have noticed that If using google home to turn on the tv , it can take upwards of a full minute to turn on. If the TV was on and then used Google home to turn off it happens immediately. also after turning off, if you tell it to turn on, it turns on immediately. I can not find power settings on this TV. Anyone else experience this. Also is there a way to install the Crave app? Thanks all

    I really don't understand why it's even slow. You would think a high end model like the Z1, A1E and even the 940 and 930 will have a spec bump somewhere to speed up the OS. My A1E is painfully slow and when I had my Samsung KS8500 I was happy how fast the Tizen OS was.

      Sony cheaped out on the chipset and memory. Hopefully won't make same mistake next year.

      It's possible that apps running in the background could be eating memory and causing judder on the tv. I had to set my x900e to near SOE to stop the judder after I disabled the recommended apps. I used Custom with Judder slider all the way up and the cinemotion to medium.
      There are apps that I don't need such as google games, music, and movies. I would like to disable them, but I need to verify that it won't cause other issues. I would hate to send this set back because it's got great picture qualify, and get the less expensive Samsung mu8000.

      That's because the top models have the same awful Mediatek MT5891 SoC present in my cheap XD80 TV. And the same (ridiculous for Android 7.0 in a TV) 2GB of slow RAM. Sony went just cheap, even in the high end TVs.

      Nvidia Shield uses Android and does not have any of the problems of the Sony TVs, it's how Sony chose to implement it that causes problems ie underpowered chipset and not enough memory, it's not the OS itself that is the problem.

    Unable to get 5.1 sound output while playing from Set Top Box( STB) through my JBL sound bar . But it perfectly works when contents played from Netflix, Prime or similar Apps . As a troubleshoot attempt I changed the HDMI port in which STB is connected and it worked for some days but again shows the same issue . Any way out ?

    Disable all the bloat, block internet access to the TV.
    When people ask "what's the best dumb TV you can buy?" I generally say; but the best TV on the market now and just cripple it with no internet connection.
    I mean... you guys have your chromecast, PS4s, HTPCs or whatever other gadgets that runs all the netflix, amazon, vudu apps faster than any TV would ever be able to do. So, why the heck are you not using them?

      You ought to compare watching a catchup app or streaming service from an external input vs the built in apps. Idk why, the built in apps just look better. Plus a lot of 4k services and newer hdr formats have been limited to smart tv apps only (eg. netflix, amazon, BBC) for at least a few months/years before making it to other platforms to play on.

      The only reason why I have my TV connected is because my Roku Streaming Stick+ does not support Dolby Vision. There are a number of NetFlix shows that offer DV.

    In all fairness, Sony’s TVs are great. The only thing making them sluggish is the Android Tv OS. I feel Sony is stuck with this sluggish OS that can’t even be compared in terms of speed to Samsung’s little known Tizen Os. It kill the user experience of these great hardwares.

      Jonathan Domah I never had a smart tv. Then I test Tizen and it is amazing: fast, nice to watch, easy to use and even the controller was nice. Then I tried Sony Android Tv and it is terrible. It is slow, so slow.

      F BM the hardware is top notch. But the software destroys user experience. Don’t buy any android tv product.
