Thank you for this very good review. I've just bought the Canon M50 Mark II and I'm glad about that, even though I am just beginning and learning how to use it. Thanks a lot!
@@DominicPhillip Hi 👋 I don’t have any videos or photos online yet from the canon but when I do I will let you know. I have been taking pictures with it and they are super good! I love the color and the clarity! It’s like my dream camera, really nice 👍
Thanks for the review. Am planning a blogging camera. Am now using a gopro hero 9. Thinking of having another camera. What’s your opinion should I go for the investment.
Definitely get away from the go pro for vlogging. A lot of people hate watching long form content on such a super wide angle. I'd check out this, the Sony zv-1f, and the zve-10. All great options for about the same price.
This was so so helpful-- just started recording video for music I'm making and I was using a Sony handcam previously because I was able to get it through my work's rewards program. Spent a couple months using it but definitely looking for something with a bit more capability-- especially 1080P minimum because the handycam caps out at 720P. Thank you for your video-- subscribed!
So glad you found it valuable. You'll find this to be a big upgrade and a large jump in photo and video quality from the handicam. The handycam is good, but that sense is very limiting.
Its a great camera despite some bad reviews but 2 facts are unacceptable in 2020/2021 and that is why I told my partner not to upgrade her camera with this camera: 01. Micro USB and not USB C ; most phones, cameras and hard drives in 2020 have USB C , keep offering customers an almost obsolete port is not good Canon! 02. No USB charging! My Fuji x100v does that and it's great to have this option especially when travelling

Hey great video! Thanks for highlighting the pros and cons for this camera. I'm just trying to get in to the world of photography. Never owned a professional camera before, and planning to start taking photos and maybe some casual videos. Also planning to start streaming. I've been looking like crazy and i've come down to some options. Canon M50 Mark II, Sony ZV-E10 and Panasonic Lumix G85. My main goal is to take pictures, occasionally some videos and maybe streaming (maybe because I can also use my phone as a camera, so not a big deal) I was leaning more to the M50 Mark II until I say the G85. Seems like it's better for 4k video and not too much for photos but I can get one for around $400-$450 used with the kit lens. What would you recommend? Thanks!
I highly recommend the ZVE-10 out of that group. I really like that camera for the price. You can learn a lot and actually not need to upgrade for a while if you have good lenses.
Yes, definitely! Especially with an external mic if you're doing voice over work. But I'd also look at the Sony ZV1, it's smaller and more equipped for all round use.
Hmm... this is actually a tricky question. LOL ok I looked it up for you and I believe a full size hdmi, then an hdmi to usb, then usb into your iMac. I’ve never tried this so I’m going off research. If you do try please update us with results!
would the m6 mark ii satisfy what's missing in the m50? As far as the 4k video. Though you do lose the flip-out screen feature with the m6. Seems there's always just a little something missing for each model.
Agreed. No perfect camera so far. I do like the m6, I just don’t like it enough for what you have to give up. But if it works for what you are shooting, it’s not as bad camera at all.
You say that 4k is "unusable", but what's bad about it other than eye detection autofocus not working? I won't be filming stuff with eyes. I won't be filming for more than 30min stints. So, what other issues would I experience?
It's mushy, soft, heavy heavy crop, bad autofocus, and bad dynamic range. I think Canon just didn't put any effort into 4k and basically threw it in just a marketing tactic to say the camera has it. But trust me, if you need 4k please look elsewhere.
@@DominicPhillip ok thanks heaps. I like shooting 4k so I can crop/rotate/move the image in post and still output 1080p. Seems like upgrading from a phone camera is harder than I thought. Some of these $500-$1000 cameras can't even shoot 4k properly, and only have a 1/2.3" sensor. My phone from 7yrs ago had a 1/2.3" sensor and shot 4k! I don't understand why a decent camera struggles with basics, and why decent 4k is a AUD$1000+ camera feature...
Thanks for the info. I’m looking for the best mirrorless or DSLR for around $1200 or less (body only) to record my nieces. One is a gymnast and the other does local community theater. I will be purchasing a 70-200mm f2.8 lens for whatever body I choose as well. I’m looking for eye autofocus that functions in 4k. Some have suggested Sony a6600 (I’m a little concerned about the rolling shutter) others have suggested Canon M6 Mark ii (some have said eye autofocus doesn’t work in 4k) Any help from other viewers would also be appreciated.
Hey jimmy, This is tough because if you want eye AF you’re limited to Sony and not much else for that price point. I’d probably go a6600 and just live with the rolling shutter issues. Although for gymnastics and theatre you’re going tripod for both. I’d even consider an a6400 if you don’t need that ibis. Canon 4K isn’t there yet. I’d say to also check an a7iii. They’re used on B&H for $1400-1500 or an a7C. For $200 more, that’s well worth the upgrade. Especially for the quality of the full frame glass. The Sony 70-200 is superb. Hope this is helpful

@@DominicPhillip So I’ve done a little bit of testing and messing around with the cameras so far and Omg I'm beyond impressed. Mirrorless is a whole New World and I feel like a lot of new possibilities have opened up now that I have this camera. even with the adapter that I got so that I can use my APS-C lenses the cannon M50 MK II is Soooo good.
What are your thoughts on using the 4K on a tripod for talking head shots and video? Everyone seems to disparage the 4K feature because it loses the auto focus. Well if that's the case, why not just use it within the parameters that's available?
So autofocus really sucks in 4k. If you're not moving much or showing much product than it may not hunt and stay locked on you. I'd still prefer the ZVE10 far over this camera though. And about the same price too.
Unfortunately Canon won't make new "M" lenses anymore, since their announcement of the R7 and the R10. Hence, if you're looking for a new mirrorless and since the "M" line is the one that has the least choices when it comes to lenses, either you knowingly equip yourself and deal with adaptors (along their flaws/cropping factors/etc.), either you look somewhere else than the M50 or whatever camera using "M" lenses. Else, Canon will have to lower the price of the "M" line as a whole since it'd be a limited "entry level" camera. For instance, the Rebel T8i would be a much better choice even though it's not a mirrorless - the later characteristic is irrelevant when it comes to image quality, which essentially depends on the processor and the lenses, rather than on the fact that it'd be reflex or mirrorless (more over, it's cheaper for the sole reason that it's not a mirrorless: with the "M" line, people ended up paying for Canon's R&D rather than for their needs, because now comes the "true" Canon mirrorless lines along the R, ditching the "M" line in the process...).
If Canon does indeed drop the M line completely they’re stupid. The M50 killed in the market and all they had to do was fix the 4k and would sell a ton more.
The Canon M50 and the M50 Mark II are absolutely IDENTICAL. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS A FIRMWARE UPDATE. Canon could easily update the regular M50, but chose not to. I suspect Canon wants consumers to consume, and 'force' them to buy the Mark II and make more money (as usual).
I just returned this camera I didn’t like it one bit! I definitely like the canon g7x mark 2 or 3 the only thin I liked about this camera was the external mic thing that’s it other than that too much to handle for me, I won several canon cameras but this one was 🫤

I'm not sure how accurate that is, but if it's true that super shady of Canon.

Wait ..add more ...buy M6 Mark 2 ...trust me ...
The M6 is almost there. I just hate the screen so much.
@@DominicPhillip but the video and photo quality of M50 mark 2 and the low light performance , you will hate the entire m50 package for sure..
Blue sky looks washed out
Agreed Rick. I can probably get some back in post if I tried, but that’s straight out on auto.
I just returned this camera I didn’t like it one bit! I definitely like the canon g7x mark 2 or 3 the only thin I liked about this camera was the external mic thing that’s it other than that too much to handle for me, I won several canon cameras but this one was 🫤
