For those wondering, that snare sound is half programmed, meaning it's half artificial. The actual snare sound is tuned really well, but there's an artificial snare sound placed on top of the existing sound in the mix. On some tracks off the record they actually don't use the trash bin-like programmed sound at all.

***** Probably the mix to be honest, I think the mix is why the Rev never really bothered with them - in a CoE interview from (Modern drummer or Drummer World) he said he never bothered because they never could be heard in the mix, which is quite sad in my opinion - ghost notes add so much more to metal music as players like Matt Halpern, Adam Gray and Matt Gartska prove.
Mitchell Barlow it doesn’t have that big of an effect. it’s like sprinkles on a sundae. if they’re there, then great. if not, it doesn’t really matter. at least that’s what i think
Alot of people criticize this snare sound, but unlike st anger it works in the context of the song because its not so overblown and compressed; go listen to this song live with a normal snare- theres something missing
People on here think he has 2 hats. No he doesn't. And during this recording, he kept the hats down. He never had drop clutches. He doesn't use his hats open this entire song (recorded) he sometimes had his hats open when he played this song live. This song AGAIN is recorded with his hi hats down.
Are you serious? No one gets that he actually has 1 hihat and the other ones are his crash cymbals? He did not have 2 hihats. He had one, a closed one. So when you hear this "open hihat" sound it's his crash cymbals -_-
I was not listing all of his cymbals... I was trying to get people realize that he has ONE closed hihat and when at the other parts when you hear that squishy sound that's his CRASH cymbals. BECAUSE people think he had 2 hihats. 1 closed and one open. But he had one hihat and crash cymbals And of course the ride and china cymbals...
***** i think he used 2 hihats in this song. if you focus at 1:31 and 4:51 you can hear that open hihat sound. also, watch the graspop 2006's unholy confessions; you can see that he used an open hihat instead of a closed one. if the closed hihat was so necessary, he could close it only for this song. because it's not a difficult thing to do.
adjust your hi-hat so that when its closed, its slightly above the second bass pedals height. then have your heel on the hi-hat pedal and the front of your foot pressing the double bass
In response to the hi hat question, like suboari22 said below me it could be a cobra clutch, or possibly a drop clutch. Personally I use both: drop for fully closed sound and cobra loose for a semi closed sound. Drop cost about £20, cobra will set you back £80. If you play double you should totally invest in one!
@TheMattBlakeman your right, i dont know how i missed that. thas is truely original to his channel. but ive heard everything else from other places. look, im not hating. i appreciate that he puts it all in one place. ive wanted that forever. but some of it is from rockband/guitar hero. that ill stand by
@TheMattBlakeman i didnt hear anything different from the original. but thats just me. if it really is alternate, then maybe he has an in somewhere. and i noticed no beast and the harlot. probobly because its so common
Guys can someone tell me how does one play the double pedals and the hi hat together? I mean theres must be something....i heard of things called drop clutches....dont really get what they do....what does the drummer do if he wants the sound of a closed hi hat along with the double bass sound??? PLEEEZ REPLY SOMEONE..

actually on a double bass pedal you can close the hihat with your heel and play the left bass pedal with your toes he didn't even have three toms he sure as hell didn't have two hihats
