I sit at home, playing on my set, doing pretty good. rythem's a little off, miss a couple of things here and their, mildly unmotivated/inspired to really play. kinda feeling like i'm horrid. then i realize i'm half the age this man lived to be. inspiration at its finest.
When I discovered city of evil one of the things that struck me was his tone on drums I was like what is this?? Am I wrong in thinking it’s that they’re tuned with lower tension?
avenged sevenfold just kicked aron out. and its been somwhere around 7 years since the rev said he will run in the forest to become the knife master and never return for 10 years. so maby with the album coming out in 2017 the rev will return thats what i belive

Actually, his set was "reflection". Jimmy had same cymbals on both sides, only toms made the difference. The 3 bass drums were for one purpose - so dead bat was pointed in every direction :)
All of you drooling over how awesome the drumset sounds... is because this is a STUDIO mixed drum track. This is in no way live, this is a drum track that is mixed in a studio. This has probably been picked over for weeks to make it sound perfect with the timing being perfect and everything else. I love this band, but in no way is this a live play through. I know this because I have been playing in a band for a while and we have recorded in a studio.
That's so fucking true, the Drums on STST are SO awesome, it's amazing. In Songs like "Darkness Surrounding" or "Lips of Deceit" you can hear this very good in my opinion.
Actually, the FIRST song the band wrote without Jimmy was "Not Ready to Die" which was in Call of Duty: Black Ops, So Far Away was written before in the Nightmare Album.
So... Jimmy was really talanted when it came to double pedal. That is NOT a very easy thing to master and the fact that he was so good at it was majestic. He was a talanted drummer overall, but his double pedal skills are beastly. Just because they're so rhythmic and actually fit in the song, not just all willy nilly.
He had triple bass indeed, all workable, he played in the normal ones ( middle and right ), but he only used the left bass drum to easly sing, because the microfone was at his left side.
I guess that would imply that, but it wasn't my intention to make it seem like you don't know the songs. I just named out the ones that I feel were good from the album (basically all of them). I agree with you on you knowing them, you claim to know all their songs, so I'm taking your word on it.
Carry on is not the first to be written without the Rev. Nightmare, welcome to the family, victim, tonight the world dies, danger line, natural born killers, buried alive were written without the rev. So far away was written by Syn for his grandfather who had passed. The rev helped write some of it. He also drummed in God hates us (if im correct). The Rev MAY have helped write not ready to die. He most likely did. If you listen closely, you can hear Jimmys style in the drumming. Jimmy sings in
I agree with you.. I personally think Mike should have The Rev's famous status and The Rev should have Mike's.. Mike is not too well known to most but for everyone else "The Rev" is a household name. I agree mike is miles better but Jimmy was great too.
He was an amazing drummer, but you can't say he's the best of all time even if you have heard every drummer in history, it's a matter of taste what is "good".
You're forgetting "4.am", So Far Away" and "Not Ready to Die" He did not write the drum parts for those either, And with the song "Save Me" probably the hardest drum parts the rev has wrote since "Blinded in chains" and the drum solo of "Demons"
NO. he never said he played drums exactly as jimmy wrote. He added much fills and changed lots of parts, jimmy only recorded a demo and gave the idea of structure and drum elements
Is there any way I can get a downloadable version of this? I'd really like to make a cover of this song but it's just ridiculous on drums and I've given up XD So if you have one, please PLEASE let me know.
Indeed. I tried to pick up the drums. And I made my attempts on some songs, like "The Art of Subconscious Illusion." Lets just say that it sounds a lot better from the original than what I had done. XD
@HoboBassist the bass drums are. if you listen to the drum track in critical acclaim youll hear the natural sound of his kit. everything else though on this is natural
OMFG how the fuck did he do that and then be able to play other songs when they played live...... i have some major respect towards james... but this makes me want to praise the guy

tyler burtcher Don't worry of being bad when you got another try that it's going to be better
I heard a rumour that he was human, the things some people believe...
Penguin Pal he's not a human he was a god, a drumming god
Rev is probably one of the best metal drummers , too bad he left too soon :(
Love his kick drum and snare sounds on this album
I know right
When I discovered city of evil one of the things that struck me was his tone on drums
I was like what is this??
Am I wrong in thinking it’s that they’re tuned with lower tension?
If you read up about Jimmy mike portnoy was a huge inspiration for him
it's cool that Mike got to help avenged sevenfold through that though year and I think the rev would have been really proud of that
the rev never die
avenged sevenfold just kicked aron out. and its been somwhere around 7 years since the rev said he will run in the forest to become the knife master and never return for 10 years. so maby with the album coming out in 2017 the rev will return

@@underdog3486 Ur theory is toxic asf. Grow up
Grow up
funny how if you just take off all the other instruments it just sounds like a long drum solo 😭 what a beast
I could do this in my sleep. After all, anything is possible in one's dreams.
RIP
Jimmy (the REV) Sullivan

avenged sevenfold just kicked aron out. and its been somwhere around 7 years since the rev said he will run in the forest to become the knife master and never return for 10 years. so maby with the album coming out in 2017 the rev will return

Jimmy In Afterlife Uses A 3 Bass Drum And Other With 2
This song was the reason that i started to play drums!
Got three more years boys then he'll come back
No he's not coming back...
BUT WHEN HE COMES BACK ...
Farfox he becomes a knife master
Still waiting for the Knife Master
1 year left! ;D
This year?
The bass drum is juste awesome ;'D
Actually, his set was "reflection". Jimmy had same cymbals on both sides, only toms made the difference.

i don't know why people make fun of him and say he is bad he can play better then all the people who think they can
Very good...He does in every album
Hands down best drummer ever to walk this earth
This is one of there best songs yet!! :D So catchy and everything! This has all elements to a great and fucking badass song!!
*Cough* their* *cough*
Sorry XD
Misty parrales Hehehe! :D
3 people got angry at 3:07 when they realized that they would never be as good as The Rev.
My brother can play this song 100% just like the rev
correction its the album "in the eyes of god" getting confused with the band eye hate god
If only everyone on youtube could stay level headed like this.
You're possibly the biggest A7X fanboy in the world, well done.
OFG, eargasm♥
Love The Rev♥

Like if the rev is your idol or if he's your favorite drummer
Hes both
Not the best technically, but provides me with the most entertainment and enjoyable beats. R.I.P Jimmy, keep on rocking brother
I was wrong. The rev did a demo of nightmare. When Matt would say fight, you could hear the rev backing him up.
The first album :) Nice one :D Rev did an amazing job on STST
No, the first song they wrote without The Rev was "Not Ready to Die", with Arin.
The Rev was and is the best drummer that will ever live. I don't care what all of you haters will say. HE IS BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU. Just honor him.
3:25 EPIC drumming!!!!!!!
R.I.P Jimmy 'The Rev' Owen Sullivan
the double bass is definitely second to none
I guess that would imply that, but it wasn't my intention to make it seem like you don't know the songs. I just named out the ones that I feel were good from the album (basically all of them). I agree with you on you knowing them, you claim to know all their songs, so I'm taking your word on it.

Epic drumming. One of the best drummers in the world ever!
hell ya, one of my favourite drum track
is this a drum machine or did you isolate the track? either way its pretty amazing!!!
The Rev is just out becoming the Knife Master, he'll be back before you know it
i wish i can drum like that
3:27
Jimmy finished the song and told Matt it was titled "Death." I'm sure you can find the interview where Matt talks about it on RUclips.
I agree with you.. I personally think Mike should have The Rev's famous status and The Rev should have Mike's.. Mike is not too well known to most but for everyone else
"The Rev" is a household name. I agree mike is miles better but Jimmy was great too.
Thanks for being so respectful,
Dat snare and kick tone
its like the revs spirit is going to have to enter a body for anything to sound that great
@OftaPoftaRofta I fail to see what is so incredible about this.
He was an amazing drummer, but you can't say he's the best of all time even if you have heard every drummer in history, it's a matter of taste what is "good".
Yes, you can infact say he's the best of all time. Thats the joy of a debate like that, it's purely subjective.
@Fagoooooo Probably From The Tracks In Guitar Hero. This Song Was On Guitar Hero 2
The Rev didn't die, God just needed drum lessons
@TheKdonnelly94 Sounding the seventh trumpet was his best drumming, that album is fucking intense.
This is pure fucking epicness R.I.P Jimmy
You're forgetting "4.am", So Far Away" and "Not Ready to Die"
He did not write the drum parts for those either, And with the song "Save Me" probably the hardest drum parts the rev has wrote since "Blinded in chains" and the drum solo of "Demons"
Thank you!
Not Ready to die was written with The Rev? That explains why the drums are so awesome in this Song :D
The rev is the one that's still alive
I cried my fucking eyes out when I heard about this god's passing.
the rev has the cleanest double bass ive ever heard...
1st. its different cause the rev used the electrical drums
2nd. matt changed it since it was the demo
foREVer X
I try to. There has to be someone in this world to do it. Hey, you keep on rocking on man. \m/
What's Jimmy
Most Awsome Snare Ever.
One of the best drummers who ever lived.
NO. he never said he played drums exactly as jimmy wrote. He added much fills and changed lots of parts, jimmy only recorded a demo and gave the idea of structure and drum elements
You do know that 'So Far Away' was originally written for Brian's grandfather before Jimmy passed away???
eargasm, this is fucking amazing i love it
Is there any way I can get a downloadable version of this? I'd really like to make a cover of this song but it's just ridiculous on drums and I've given up XD So if you have one, please PLEASE let me know.
3:34 ❤

What was the very last song and show The Rev ever played and recorded?
I looooooooooooooooove it soooooooooooooooo much R.I.P JIMMY:'(
Not ready to die was made for cod black ops as the zombie theme song.
I think it was actually "Not Ready To Die" actually?
R.I.P
Rev-In-Peace
Wrong, Not Ready To Die is the first song without The Rev. Arin wrote the drums for it.
Listening to this in honor of Jimmy since he died three years ago today
Fiction is recorded by The Rev but they finished it.
They didn't even knew that The Rev recorded Fiction.. (3 days before he died)
foREVer
Actually Wouldn't that have been Not ready to die as the first one, That was written with Aaron for Black ops 1
I changed my screen up and down so I could like the video again.
