Looking at: peel and stick then a radiant barrier with 24g Galvalume installed on 1x4 battens using metal clips. Should I spend the extra $ for a painted metal or will "naked" Galvalume give me the performance I'm looking for?

The trapped air space with the battens will be a great benefit regardless of whether you choose painted or Galvalume. Painted has Galvalume under the paint, so has the best of both worlds. The "cool" technology provided by most metal roof manufacturers also results in painting releasing heat faster vs bare Galvalume.
