Tim thanks for the update and insight of what you are doing and going about it, just one question for Q&A where are you going to build the main house eventually? 🙂👍
Hi Tim …. Not sure if your Roof Shield membrane is on as a permanent fixture but it looks like you’ve pulled it a little bit too tight, you should leave about a 15/20mm sag in between each rafter, This allows for any water droplets to run under the tile battens
Metal roof is going to be very noisy when it rains as well as the possible condensation issue you mention. Have you considered using Onduline pitch based corrugated sheets instead? I used these for a garden room I built at my last house with great success..
Thick gauge steel with anti con lining so quieter than regular tin roof and hopefully not heard through all that insulation. Only other option was metrotile which I’ve used before and like. Not sure I’d want onduline on a habitable build but might work ok.
Tim nice to see you home progressing great to get done during heat wave 😊 I was wondering if you looked at stretch ceiling this would reduce your weight load of plaster boarding
Wow Tim the house wrap really gives the building its size definition. The blue and green must be burnt into the back of your eyeballs by now. It must have been nice but strange getting away for the farm. Its important to take that time though and enjoy it when you can. Oh at least the house wrap wasnt pink or the girls would have had you putting that on instead lol 🤣😂🤣!!
I'm enjoying the build and would like to know a bit more about planning permission for farms. Are the permitted developement rules the same as for householders with regard to habitable buildings?
What’s the plan for lighting? Will you just have low profile down lighters in between the vapour barrier and plasterboard? Just curious because almost all downlights are taller than the distance between your v-barrier and p-board. Saying that, you can get some mega LP LED one’s but they’re a tad spenny. Best wishes
Fantastic video again. One question for the Q&A sorry if I’ve already missed this. How will you prevent up draft from the floor once the frames are fixed permanently? Keep the content going really enjoying your families journey
Do you have CAD drawings? It would be great to see a couple of cross-sections to see the floor, wall and roof construction and how you maintain a continuous insulation, vapour barrier etc. A picture is sometimes better than a verbal explanation. Great progress so far :)
Hi all I think you are right to try to prevent condensation from forming in your roof void , so I would say install as much extraction as you can . Because you intend to use plasterboard as your finish covering , it will allow a degree of moisture to permeate through into your roof . Maybe a constant flow extract system in the roof void is a possible answer , these are very low consumers of electricity yet can adde air flow in a inaccessible roof space which may be become problematic . Best wishes and kind regards as always 😀👍👍👍
With that 45mm air gap created by the 'battens' the steel will be very well ventilated. The outer membrane lets any moisture out to be 'blown' away by the air gap. The inner membrane prevents moisture leaving the room through ceiling or walls.
@@mattclark7700 it sounds like that's exactly what you are asking based on the above. Regardless, if you've been watching the channel you should already know the answer!

Cheers Tim, great vid. I hope you will agree with me the one thing you should never be experimenting with is fire safety. You have spoken before that you may use the cabin for AirBnB in the future. Any building used for this purpose does have to pass a fire assessment from the Local Authority. Basically it is a hard wired smoke alarm, a certain time of fire resistance eg 30 mins, an escape plan for the occupants. Perhaps you could get one done at this stage??? I think for anybody else in the UK they need to understand the difference between say a garden room and a building you are sleeping overnight in. It is OK to experiment with a garden room but an extension or AirBnB let needs building regulation approval. Also if you are building something under the Caravan Act there are also BS3632 regulations.
I'd resigned myself to the fact that 9mm might be risky. I'll either add some battens or possibly look at lightweight ceiling panels, will depend on pricing and weight.
@@TheRestorationCouple as a plasterer myself, even 12.5mm will flex badly on 600 centres! Its why modt newbuild timber frames crack 🙃 is 15mm on the ceiling out if the question? And im guessing due to moveability itll be taped and jointed?
@@tobysherring1369 Lightweight panels like in caravans is an option but not sure Im a fan. Thin tongue and groove would work but again we are hoping to feel more house like than cabin (or sauna!). Still options to look at though.

Good stuff, love the detailed explanations. That dog is super cute!
Looking great, the progress is amazing.
and to think Tim, this is the easy bit! finishing it with plaster board etc takes the time!

Question for the Q&A: is the plan to have the cabin finished by winter and what’s the plan for the main house build?
Love the build, fascinating to watch, interested to know how they'll be separated to be able to move them?

How is this being moved? It’s on two trailers. When you lower that off the jacks the whole thing is going to move and crack 😫
Hi , when are you going to move it on site ?
Before drywall or after and risk cracks
Do you have CAD drawings? It would be great to see a couple of cross-sections to see the floor, wall and roof construction and how you maintain a continuous insulation, vapour barrier etc. A picture is sometimes better than a verbal explanation. Great progress so far :)
Pretty sure they just used SketchUp. They have been visible for short periods in past videos.
Sorry if this seems dumb but how will this building split down to transport out once it’s finished I can’t figure that out ?
You need at least 12mm drywall for the ceiling. (i have installed 12mm on 625 OC in my garage...still sags a bit)
Will you ever do air B&B or similar on the farm? If so I would love to bring my wife and daughter up to have a visit.
You say you are going to tape the joints of OSB? Did you consider using caulk? Seems like it would be easier and create a better seal?
Might be a silly question but are you going to put any floor ventilation in like a normal air vent?
Hi Tim are u going to be building ur main house urself or are u using contractors?
Do you plan on having any electric in the ceilings? It looks like they are more-or-less closed up at this point.
Awesome, everyone should build themselves a house like this, would help solve the housing problem!!
Good job👍By Christmas eve will move in ?🤔

Directly above the plasterboard there’s a vapour barrier. Moisture from inside the rooms can’t get up to the roof

is the cabin transportable as you said to me before you planned to site it elsewhere? seems quite a structure to move even if on wheels.
It’s designed to split into two halves and is within the limits of the “caravan act”. Will be like two tiny houses bolted together.

Great to the progress - glad you didn't force your kids into the roof to lay out the insulation in the small spaces. Child labour can be so tempting.
