I love your quilt. I have made these for 30 years. Your method is a little different, but it seems to work for you. I think it is faster at least for me to stuff the squares first and them sew together. I also find that I am more consistent in the amount of stuffing I put in each puff by soing that. I have made queen and king size quilts in this method. But, I do each row and stuff and then sew them together. Thank you for your video, Your puff quilt is beautiful. You did a great job.
I hate refilling my bobbin! That same thing has happen to me so many times. I have a top loaded bobbin so that sometimes helps me see when it is getting low. I normally wind 3 or 4 before I start piecing a new project! Thank for the video! I can't wait to use your tips and tricks to make my sister a puff quilt!
Loved your tutorial and your personality rocks. Thanks for showing the bias addition because I have watched a ton of other tutorials and didn't care for the edges, the bias added the last horah for what I want. Thanks so much, now to start, ugh. My son told me to track number of hours which is a great idea. I am only making a baby size (36"x 52") and first time quilter. No way will I be as quick as you because based on your answer to another's question it took you between 38-42 hours. Your quilt is beautiful.
Wow thank you so much! I’m glad you like it and this is helpful! It’s definitely a commitment but turned out beautifully. You will have to let me know how yours goes!
Wow! That is awesome! Bobbin running out... that has happened to me too! I really like the idea of using a bobbin top and bottom to track when it's running out. Gonna try that out on my next project. I may try to make the puff quilt - but I'm a newby, so that's gonna be a down the track project. 😁 Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful quilt! I keep track of my bobbin thread by winding two bobbins. One goes into the top thread holder, the other into the bobbin casing. From there, they will both end at the same time. :) Hope this helps!
I always have that happen. My machine has everything but a warning your bobbin is running out! Thanks for video, my grand daughter wanted a puff quilt, i did not have any idea. I really see making one now. Love your organized ideas.
Good video. one suggestion is instead of that backing you used if you used a regular fabric and left a inch to and inch and a half you could have folded it inward like a short sleeve is and sewed it along the edge of the puffs then you wouldn't have needed to use bias tape. just a thought I had while watching the video.
Well I am in the middle of trying to one of these puppy quilts but I have a question want to do it for a single bed at this size of blocks how many do you think I would need and yes I keep running out of bobbin thread too
Oh thank you so much! I used just plain old embroidery floss from the craft store (same stuff used for friendship bracelets). I used a normal needle type, but just the biggest one I had. If you have any embroidery wax, that would help a lot with that step as well.
I’m having an issue figure out how much fabric to purchase? I’m wanting to make a 48x48 blanket with minimal colors, literally first time using a sewing machine. Is there a method to knowing how much fabric?
Definitely draw it out. Figure out how many squares you want to make up your quilt. So if you wanted 10 squares in each row, do 48/10 (or however many squares in a row) so see how big each FINISHED square will be. So 4.8”. Then, add seam allowance. I usually do a 1/2” seam allowance, so 4.8” + 1/2” + 1/2” (because in one row/line we will be sewing both ends, so we need seam allowance on the left and right side of the square) = 5.8”. So each square needs to be 5.8”, if you have 10square x 10square (48”) quilt. So each row you need how big the square is x how many squares. 10 x 5.8” = 58”. So for one row, you need a strip of fabric 58” x 5.8”, and you need 10 strips since you have 10 rows. So maybe buy 5 differ colors. 1 yd of fabric is usually ~45” wide x 36”. If you buy 1/3 yd, you cut cut it in half and get a bunch of your 5.8” squares. You would have a little extra, but it would be hard to get exact. So 8 different 1/3 yard pieces of fabric. Sorry this is confusing LOL I will try to make a separate video explaining this process :)
I talk a little bit about it at the 8:30 mark! You lay everything out nice and flat, and use a sharp needle to go through the layers. You can find me on Instagram and I can dm you a photo 😊
I'm trying to figure out how.aky I'd need.for a queen or king size! I'm thinking your trying to make a queen size? I'm going to be doing this FOREVER since I'm hand sewing it (a new ywars resolution that I'm just now getting around to 🤣🤣) and I just need to figure out how many I need. I have 120 already cut out so I'm almost 1/3 of the way there
I would skip 2 or so squares, then tie all in a line up and to the sides. It doesn’t have to be exact, you just want the space between floss ties to be more than 6 or 8 inches.
Great question. I actually had the little tails on the back of the quilt - I didn’t cut them all the way down. I left an inch or two in length but it’s on the back instead of the front
Beautiful quilt and excellent tutorial! 👏
Thank you so so much!
You made my day, empty bobbin syndrome. 😊 I’m inspired enough to start a puff quilt this week. Thank you. Great job on the video.
Thank you so much!
I would love to see it after the first washing! I love love love your ombré colors!
It looks pretty much identical! The little puffs have deflated slightly but it’s held up really well!

Thank you! Wow that is so impressive! I definitely need a bit more practice for sure

No way I would ever have the patience to do this. Kudos to those who do! Beautiful quilt!!
Thank you so much!☺️

LOVE YOUR QUILT and tutorial! The bias tape for binding was great; going to make one now and hoping I can get the same ombre effect as yours!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad this was helpful and I can’t WAIT to see how yours turns out!

LOL thank you so much!🥳🥰
Kinda difficult to make but worth it so nice
Agreed!😂😅 definitely a labor of love
Well I am in the middle of trying to one of these puppy quilts but I have a question want to do it for a single bed at this size of blocks how many do you think I would need and yes I keep running out of bobbin thread too
What are the dimensions of the quilt you are trying to make?
What needle and yarn/thread you used to combine all three layers?
Love the quilt by the way, I’m super excited to make one after watching your video.
Oh thank you so much! I used just plain old embroidery floss from the craft store (same stuff used for friendship bracelets). I used a normal needle type, but just the biggest one I had. If you have any embroidery wax, that would help a lot with that step as well.
@@ElenaMarieSewing thank you so very much for this bit of information.

Can you show us what the back looks like? Attaching it all together seems like the hardest part 😩
I talk a little bit about it at the 8:30 mark! You lay everything out nice and flat, and use a sharp needle to go through the layers. You can find me on Instagram and I can dm you a photo 😊
I hate to fill bobbins too.
Isn’t it the worst?😂😅

WOW that is a big under taking! I’m sure it will look fantastic! I think for a queen you would want at least 60”x80” finishes dimensions
So how long did it actually take? in terms of hours or days?
I probably spent 2-3 hours on it every day for a week and a half, or two weeks.
How many times and what is the distance between each floss tie on the backing.
I would skip 2 or so squares, then tie all in a line up and to the sides. It doesn’t have to be exact, you just want the space between floss ties to be more than 6 or 8 inches.
This just makes me want to make one for myself but my sewing machine sucks sooo much 😩
LOL sometimes thrift stores have some decent machines!
Can i wash in the washing machine?
Yes! Wash like normal 😊
How many square I need for double bed ? 😮
We have the same name, also I have to make one of these :-)
I love it! It is hard to come by 🙂
I didn’t see any of the ties you were doing? Did you just cut it off after a tight tie down? Use you can see the ties on the top of the quilt.
Great question. I actually had the little tails on the back of the quilt - I didn’t cut them all the way down. I left an inch or two in length but it’s on the back instead of the front
How much cotton you used?
Yes! I give exact fabric needed in the very beginning of the video ☺️
Could you do a face mask tutorial? :)
I’ll look into trying it😜
