- Caution using paddle shifters, this isn't a tutorial or How to Do video. These paddle shifters are not doing their job! The upshift paddle shifter is not working properly on many of the chargers & challengers now. Paddle shifters allow the driver to control which gear they operate in. If you don't know how to use paddle shifters make sure you watching this, if you do please use with caution. This paddle shift error is almost causing accidents

This has now happened to FP2000 392, Eurospeed 392, Tunnel Chaser Demon & I got stuck in gear! Be Careful
I could be wrong but it looked like when you guys were trying to demonstrate the paddle shifters not working correctly that the autostick was not in manual. The paddle shifters work differently between being in Auto or manual modes. In Auto the paddle shifters are for a temporary use and to be driving around like you are in town and want to drive it fully using paddles it should be in manual mode. Look it up in driver's manual, that's a lot to try to explain in comments

Having the exact same issue with my R/T man. The left paddle works just fine but the right one makes my car downshift instead of up shifting sometimes. Very annoying and frustrating. Scared the shit out of me when it first happened
it's crazy! This seems to be pretty common. Many are saying they've experienced similar results - def not good

Disconnect your negative battery terminal for 30 mins, from experience I've had with this, that should absolutely fix the issue. DO NOT take it to the dealership; they are absolutely clueless about this issue and will start by thinking the paddle shifter is broken or your TCM is bad or your transmission needs replacing or something... just disconnect the battery long enough to reset the computer, trust me.

I have a 2016 Challenger Scat Pack mine does the exact same thing with the right paddle shifter I think if you're resting your hand on it or if you push it slow it down shift so I don't know... it'll scare the crap out of you when it does it cuz you're not expecting it to do that I think these are wireless and maybe we all found a glitch

I've owned my 2016 300 SRT for about 6 months. And ive just started getting this exact same issue in the past few weeks. If I'm firm with it, no worries, shifts fine - but if I'm not firm with the paddle it down shifts. It's a worry indeed. Ordered some replacement paddles to see if that sorts it out. Reading about the issue online has me worried, coz everyone seems to be scratching their heads. So fingers crossed swapping out the paddles solves the issue.
This is normal , in the book manual it says you’re able to downshift on the lower part of the right hand paddle . Just look up shifting paddles in the book

Same exact issue am having with my 2019 challenger R/T, its scary when it downshifts unexpectedly .dealership had no clue whats the issue. I still have this issue till this day.

I have a 2018 Dodge Daytona 392 no problems whatsoever no mods it doesn’t need them it’s badass, my head mechanic will void my warranty if I put the taser in it.
How would the tazer void your warranty? Most of the things are to unlock/enable functions such as fog lights/paddle shifters if you get them installed, getting performance pages, etc. Its not a tuner programmer.
Sounds like you need a new mechanic.
I've not had this issue with my 2018 as of yet, and I use mine daily. Worth keeping an eye out for. 🐺🐺🐺

Ive had that issue since day one, every once in a while when i go to upshift it will downshift. Ive noticed its only when i lightly press the paddle to upshift.
I think this is pretty common - many people are reporting back similar results. Def not safe
I would say there is a short in the right paddle shifter module or a short in the clockspring. My steering wheel left audio controls we're going in and out for a while and then it spread to the left side controls all together. I have a video up on testing the clockspring to see if it is that part.
My car did something weird the other day, i pressed the left paddle to put first gear and smooth left the traffic light after it turned green and then floor it, and when the car changed to second gear in automatic mode it went to first gear, i just felt like the rear tires locked , it was scary since i didn’t know what happened
yah that is pretty scary stuff right there. When my car was stuck in gear it scared the hell out of me. Thought I blew the transmission or something
If it's not in sport mode the car is designed to shift by itself to keep from over revving. Sport mode gives full control and won't downshift by itself unless come to complete stop.
regardless if in/out of sport mode, when you click the upshift it should not downshift though. That is what's happening
Ive had my Scat for about a month. Haven't messed with the paddle shifters but once. Looks like its going to stay that way.

That’s weird. I haven’t had that problem. I’m pretty sure you can use both paddles for up and down by pushing different directions. Other cars have this function, too, but shifting that way is strange.
I had this problem when I first got my 16 scat pack. Started noticing it more and more after a year in. Finally got fed up and went to the dealer after I was able to repro the issue in front of the technician. Dealer switched out the module and it seemed fine from then on.
Fast forward a few months and I couldn't resist the temptation and installed an SRT steering wheel I bought off ebay. Didnt really notice anything for a while. However, recently a few times it didn't shift from 1st to 2nd the first time. Lately I had it shift from 3rd to 2nd instead to 4th when activating the right paddle. I'm starting to wonder if it's something that develops over time or if I just didn't notice it in the first place after I installed the new steering wheel.
That's wild. Def not safe, sounds like many are having this issue as well.
2018 Jeep TrackHawk here that does it and many more on the groups/forums. Had this and 14 other issues (not counting things like UConnect issues and my lumbar support going full send for no reason), 7 still there. Over an entire month in the shop in 6mo of owning it!
I have a 17' Charger hellcat and my paddles were replaced under warranty last year. Started doing it again recently. Besides that, ive had 3 u connect units replaced, the key fob, rf hub & android auto usb ports.

Yeah man, not counting the oil changes and recalls. Everyone knows me at that dealership already. Currently going through lemon law, 20k miles & im done with this thing.
It looks like it is on purpose. You only need one paddle to up shift and down shift. So when it down shifts for you slam the pedal and cruise through the gears. Just a thought.

I and the same issue on a 2016 scat pack Challenger. Dodge replaced the + paddle shifter twice,the downshift paddle once, the wiring harness, and another piece in the steering column. I recently settled a lemon law against FCA and they bought the car back.
I've had that happen on my 2015 R/T periodically. And one of the used hellcats I went to look at had it so bad I didn't buy the car.
I had the same issue with my old 2015 charger scat pack and it was a disaster. I brought it to the dealership multiple times and they couldn’t seem to fix it or know how to fix it. They re-calibrated it once it worked for a little while but then just went back to doing again. I have over 8k mile now on my new 2018 charger scat pack and have never had a issue. I hope it stays that way.
I have a 2021 challenger R/t with super track pak and a couple of times when I was just cruising around town, when I tried to up shift from 3rd to 4th, the up shift paddle actually down shifted me into 2nd. Its done this twice now. I haven't brought it in for it yet because it happens super rarely but i am now aware of it.

Same thing happened to both my Challenger Scat Pack and my Demon. Replacing the paddle shifter solves the problem. Upon taking the paddle shifter apart, it's apparent that the button is wearing out prematurely. Cleaning it up actually might help has there seems to be a buildup of the button material onto the contact surface. This seems to happen mostly on the right side paddle because that's the one that gets used the most and is usually more aggressively used during takeoffs. This seems to happen to people that actually use their paddle shifters a lot, and in a more aggressive manner like myself. Definitely should be resolve by Dodge, but the more frustrating part is getting it replaced under warranty. It is difficult because of the dealer thinks it's a control module, when it clearly is not. They will claim they have never seen this issue before and keep your car for days. I just replaced mine myself, avoided dealer headaches, and the problem is gone for another year. I guess I'll just plan on replacing them on both cars on a yearly basis at fifty bucks a pop.
I have 2018 SRT Challenger with same the issue described many others are having. I have Tazer, but feel that mod has nothing to do with the paddle shifter issue. I read thru all the comments looking for solution & thank you for the most helpful comment in this thread. I will probably just replace the right side paddle myself. Not worth it to me to take to my dealer for a $50 part I can easily change myself.
I know it’s been 3 years lol but maybe I’ll get lucky with a response, do I need to replace the whole paddle module with the stereo buttons as well? Or just the actual paddle itself?

I have the same issue in my 2016 chrysler 300srt8. The dealership in Saudi Arabia keep (reprogramming) the car thinking it will work out. I finally was able to make a video of my car to show it to them, but based on the internet, it seems there's no solution so far, correct?

My RT was doing this as well. But then I put in an unlocked PCM and it hasn't happened since. Don't know if it's just coincidence or not though.
I wonder if the tune changed slightly with the new PCM
@@RTLife it may have even though it was a direct copy of my original PCM. HPTuners took care of that. But I also didn't have the base tune on for more than 3 days before I got a custom dyno tune.
I have this same issue now. How can I fix this?
in my 2015 my car would jump from 5th gear to 3rd gear and skip 4th if i pressed the minus paddle to fast. b4 i also had the minus paddle making it shift down instead of up and i had it replaced and that fixed it. these paddles send different electronic signals and sometimes one will send the same signal as t he other. replacing it can fix it. for me it mostly fixed it unless i hit the paddles to fast. my dads 2017 scat pack didnt have this issue his then later 2019 hellcat didnt have this issue and now his 2019 Durango srt doesn't have it so it leads me to think its an issue with older cars. ive never been stuck in gear but i have had it act up
Pulling the upshift paddle and having it downshift instead has happened to me alot. Dodge has no explanation why it's happening. They said for me to bring it in for a transmission "re-flash"...
Any clue if you guys fixed the issue ? I have a Durango 2014 rt and my right shifter will put it to downshift and I would speed up and it would keep saying “shift not allowed” it started acting up today

I took my car to different dealers and all of them said nothing wrong with the car and the paddle shifter is acting fine when they examine the car! It’s frustrating issue.

Yes! I start to believe that they know about this issue already but they don’t have any idea how to fix it
I have 31,000 miles on my 2017 R/T. Never had this problem. Could it be that the electronic add-on devices some of you installed are the cause of this?
Only add ons I have on my 2017 rt is flowmaster mufflers. No other mods. And it does it quite often...

Same thing happens to me sometimes, I installed hellcat paddles, it downshits on upshift on occasion
also I need to know-DOES THE LEFT PADDLE SHIFTER HAVE A DIFFERENT (more glossy) METAL FINISH TEXTURE THAN THE RIGHT PADDLE SHIFTER???? IS THAT ON ALL CARS BECAUSE MY CAR IS LIKE THAT
From what I gathered this is designed into the shifter on purpose. Just have to be mindful where your hand is positioned while shifting

Having the same issue. Also having an issue where the right paddle shifter gets blistering hot when the wheel heater is on.

I was getting on the interstate WOT and hit the set cruise at WOT at around 80mph and let off the gas pedal. The charger kept climbing until around 95 and then "dinged," shut off, then the cruise wouldn't work until I shut car off and on again. Quirky

That happend to mine for a couple days, both paddle shifters would only downshift. I was freaking out. Then all of a sudden it went away and its been fine ever since
Even though the pedal commander is off maybe the fact that you have it plugged in has something to do with it? Be careful around FP 2000. He is showing signs of hormon issues LOL. I have had this issue for years. You guys are a trip.
I don’t have the paddle shifters but in my r/t when I push the front windows up or down sometimes they do the opposite of what was pushed.
That is weird - did you have it looked at?
No I just click it again and they go. It seems to only happen with the ones that have the one push auto roll down.

Same problem I have on my 13 R/T when I'm in auto and switch to manual via pedal shifters or stick it always down shift a gear but if I just start in manual mode it switch properly

my rt does this and it happens at the worst times {in front of people) i alwasy think i accidentally down shift but it down shifts to first halfway thru third and im scared im gonna blow a rod

I get an occasional failure to shift on the paddles of my '13 charger rt awd. Haven't had it upshift instead of downshift or vice versa, but I use the tazer to auto-shift at max RPM so a failed upshift wont over rev. Sad to know they have the same problem 5 years later. :/
Edit: I also don't have failure to shift with the stick shifter, just the paddles.
I had the same issue in my 2017 Challenger RT. I thought it was a transmission issue so I sent it to the dealership and they told me the tranny was perfectly fine. When I would paddle shift my car would get stuck on 5th gear I couldn’t down shift or upshift. I would have to switch to automatic mode then back to be able to get out off it and it did it constantly.
I don’t use my paddle shifters...one time when i had used them i couldn’t up shift so what i did was bang the back of the up shift paddle (not fierce fully) and i was able to up shift. I banged it like 3 times. I use the stick to shift now instead of the paddles..my paddles still work but i just don’t mess with them anymore
I feel like my car may be faster in drive rather than when I'm using paddle shift

I have this same exact problem in my 2014 V6 Durango. I also occasionally get an error codes on the display saying cannot shift! I am thinking its a controller issue in the Dual clutch trans? I am also going to replace my right side Paddle shift switch.

I never had that issue with my 5.7 or with the Hellcat

Eurospeed at that point it’s probably a computer issue, i was checking some forums a couple lads tried a couple things and took it to the stealership and ended up being a computer
I have had this happen in my 2015 Charger R/T; the issue seems to be some sort of a software glitch which is triggered by using the "manual mode" shifting with the stick for a while then switching back to automatic. When it kicks in I've seen all kind of shifting weirdness.
I've had the transmission IN AUTO while accelerating DOWNSHIFT instead of UPSHIFT, like when it was supposed to do 3->4 it instead did 3->2 and then back up.
I've had it give me a JOLT from 3->4 when applying very little pedal pressure on the gas as it couldn't seem to make up its mind and watched it go 3->4->5->4 in a matter of about a second.
Most commonly what I've had happen will be that the ability to up-shift using the paddle-shifter gets totally broken; the first time I had this weirdness happen that's what happened; the left paddle would downshift, and the right paddle would ALSO downshift, and if I pressed BOTH left+right at the same time THAT would upshift.
As I said this seems to be something of a software glitch, and depending on which issue you're having it should be able to be fixed by one of the following steps, I would advise trying them ONE AT A TIME, IN THIS ORDER, like try the first one and if that doesn't fix your issue try the second and so on.
Fix 1: Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 minutes, then reconnect it, this is kind of like a "PRAM reset", but instead of doing it for a mac you're doing it for a car, it resets most of the parameters that can get "stuck" and this has fixed the "right shifter down-shifting" issue for me.
Fix 2: Reset the "adaptives"; how to do this can vary from car to car over different model years, do a google search on it or use a tool like a diablosport trinity to perform this. This SHOULD fix the issue if it's due to your TCM adaptives getting out of whack and might have been able to fix the "jolt" issue I was experiencing, but I couldn't figure out how to do that so I just went with the final solution:
Fix 3: Re-flash the TCM; I'm not really sure how anyone can do this without a tool, but with the last update for the Diablosport Trinity which unlocked the ability to install TCM tunes it seems that it defaults to always making a backup of the TCM every time you install a tune and reinstalling the backup tune every time you uninstall your tune, whether you elect to install a TCM tune or not. The last time I had my shifting acting up (giving me that JOLT shifting from 3->4) I reverted to the stock tune and then reinstalled my 93 octane tune, and also elected to install the Diablosport performance TCM tune... and just... what a difference... not only did it fix my jolt issue, it also has resulted in faster, more solid and more frequent shifts while "street" driving (better fuel economy) and MUCH more reluctance to upshift when "sport" driving, even downshifting from 3->1 if I floor it at times even when I'm up to ~20mph or so, something that the stock TCM tune would NEVER do, resulting in a much more "peppy" ride experience, totally worth it
That’s happened to me, I thought it was just me. My check engine like would turn on and make the car go in neutral.

I've been seeing more of those videos popping up explaining the failures. I thought it was just the 5.7 though having this issue.

I changed my paddle shifters to the hellcat paddles, never had any issues, use mine all the time

Never seen that happening in my 15 Scat Pack despite that I drive 25 - 45 MPH on traffic when going to work. I mostly keep the car in 2nd and 3rd gear since it falls on sleep on automatic (annoying on sport since it keeps the 1st gear far to long)
Funny though you can dictate up shift by pressing strongly on the paddle. I cannot tell if this is a good thing but seeing many people got affected by this my guess Chrysler will have to fix the software on this.
On that black charger at the beginning revving, it makes a spitting sound, does anyone know what that noise is coming from cause my 300c is starting to get bad with that.

Once I accidentally on purpose mashed the right paddle shifter in 5th gear to see what would happen...It dropped to 1st and scared the crap out of me....Sounded Cool as heck though.
By accidentally on Purpose I mean I was hoping if you mashed it already in 5th it would switchback to D automatic as a alternative to putting it in N then back to D to deactivate the Autostick...but it went from 5th to 1st like a falling off a cliff

2014 ram 5.7 8 speed, i use the gear selector and turn off traction control to turn off msd. Sometimes it shifts down when i hit the plus button, so when trying to add a gear it takes one away.

It happens to me at higher speeds than just 25. I've forgotten to take it out of mds so i would shift into manual, it would be around 50 or 60 so there is room for the other gears, it goes into 5th or 6th then it drops to 4th when i hit the plus symbol and it seems like it cannot add a gear it just keeps dropping them. i have to pull over shut down to reset then it doesnt happen. It also happens when i first start up and put it into drive, then do the mds shutdown process, it won't go up so i shut it down and try it again. My truck is bone stock, no mods ever, and I'm the second owner.
I can say i've had multiple missed shifts with my 2015 scat pack paddles. They suck.
