Next time you lads do one of these, you should remember to put a stone footing along the bottom of the walls. They've been used since the bronze age to stop the clay of the wall absorbing moisture from the ground and rotting the timbers of the wall (also called "rising damp").
@@TAOutdoors 10 years time I can see you lads having a complete iron age Roman village with central heating and running water in all the houses... Keep up the great work!

For the future: a layer of cabbage leaves at the bottom of the cauldron will prevent the ingredients from burning and make them softer and juicier. Tested. For centuries. Greetings from Poland.
Just awesome! This video transported me squarely elsewhere, where I imagined myself in this celtic roundhouse, cooking over a wood fire, sleeping on a bed of hides, ... I dream of being able to live in a way like this.
The mud wall needs weekly smearing of liquid mud. In half a bucket of mud add water and smear it weekly. No cracks will appear rather it will get stronger. In Indian villages, we have huts with mud walls .
I mean, yeah, but it gets cold enough that you can't really do that where they live (dunno about the weather where you are specifically but IIRC India is generally a good deal warmer year-round), so they're going to have to wait until winter's over to put more layers on. That being said, I'd personally recommend they press a layer of hay into the fresh clay layer after laying it so it dries slower and has more material blocking off wind even if the mud cracks in the meantime IDK, if it's too bothersome just put some blankets or tarps up along the walls?
What a great series. If you are ever visiting the early celtic sites in Germany, Austria, Switzerland etc. let me know! Glauberg, Hallstatt and Enz are probably an interesting place to visit, if you're interested.
Awesome job! One little tip, a ditch around the perimeter at the drip zone will ensure no water comes under the walls during heavy rain, unless it is blowing from the side of course.
What a beautiful job. It makes me wish I was there too. I especially like the dog. He is beautiful. I love it when sit there near the door looking for and threats too his charges. Love it.
Just got to explain how pressure cookers work guys... When the air pressure is higher, water boils at a higher temperature.. At sea level it's 100 degrees C, but on Mount everest water boils at 68 degrees C. So a pressure cooker increases the tempersture of boiling water up to 121 degrees C to cook faster. Make sure you cool it down slowly and open when the pressure is totally released, or you'll get high pressure blast of super heated water in the face.
I very much enjoyed the experience, and I imagined myself living in times like back then. Entertainment was talking and interacting with others in-person. The smoke keeps the dengue mosquitos at bay, and simple foods were served where the greatest seasoning was hunger.
So now my SHTF Kit will have a knife, ferro rods, flashlights, tents, tarps, etc..., AFGHAN PRESSURE COOKER!!! I never even heard of one. This channel is basically how to survive leisurely. Thanks always!
They were invented in the 1600's in France, they became popular in England in the 1800's and were very popular in England right up until the 1970s, there's still a dedicated following.
Fantastic work! 2 ordinary guys with minimum tools and basic materials built a functional and warm family shelter. And people lived for 100.000s years in caves like animals, didn't even know how to build basic shelters like this one, it's mind blowing.
A cast iron pressure cooker, now that's a new one to me, gonna have to get one of those. Glad to see you two doing an overnighter together again, and I'm the round house none the less! Brilliant!
These cook pots are actually made of aluminium. Looks super practical, but with the increasing body of research linking the use of aluminium cookware to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Dementia, it's put me off buying one. Best wishes.

Everywhere I’ve lived, I’ve always explored the bicycle trails on the edge of the city to determine the best to use to bug out. I had focused on building a small trailer I could convert into a temporary shelter, but watching your channel, I’ve been inspired to do more exploring in the forests about two hour ride from the city to utilize one of your shelters to establish more of a semi long term place to stay until it’s safe to return to the city. Call me paranoid, but that has been in my head for at least 40 years.
Clay always cracks when it dries. You just patch it up, as u said, after it has dried out completely--may take a couple times. Add a little water to the cracked surface before patching to help it adhere. More straw in the mix for future builds should help, as well as crushed pieces of old clay tiles. The stone wall foundation for the wood & clay would keep the ground water away. Usually, the roof edge can extend out a bit less than a meter to protect the clay. (You can paint a lime/resin plaster on the finished clay wall for a natural waterproof sealant). Suggestion about the smoke: Have 2 long sticks (poles) to lift the cap up from the hut just enough to let the smoke move upwards & out, but still keep the rain out. Might want to wait until the smoke filters through the hatch to drive any pests out first, though. Pressure cooking: See some steam (from open safety cap gauge) before adding & latching the lid. Turn down the flame (lol), once you seal the lid! Don't want a lid rocket! Before opening, let it cool down to barely be able to hold your hand on the outside or when no more steam is visible. (It will still be cooking, while it cools). Add the uniform cuts of veggies for the last 10-minutes, when u are cooking meat, as well, so as not to be mushy. Cooking time for the meat is greatly shortened from any Dutch oven temps. Hope this helps anyone! You did great on the build, guys! Love it! :)
Its awsome hous or hut. Generations ago human shelter chenges rapidly improvising. Freinds I am from India this type or I should say many beautiful mud bamboo and log houses even stone houses still exist in rural and hilly areas of India. You explored celtic shelter / home, I felt very happy. Awsome.
It is an excellent hut!!! Huge work you did which is highly appreciable. But there is no provision of exhaust system for smoke. That was very easy to set. Thank you so much to serve the nice program.
My daughter-in-law used to tell my young grandchildren that Yams were 'Power of the Sun' potatoes. They were fascinated. I enjoyed your live stream with Dustin at the Roundhouse. It was a fine test of the roof! In the Rocky Mountains, the elevation is too high (air pressure is too low) for regular pots and pans to boil. Pressure cooking is a necessary part of things.
Finally able to sit and watch this video! My first thought watching you drop the veg in the pressure pot was “those only need three minutes, don’t put them in now!” If you do this again, you can cook the meat under pressure for 15-20 min, quick release the pressure, pop the veg in, get it back up to pressure and cook the veg for 3 minutes. The veg will be perfect and tender without being over cooked. Cheers, guys! Legends.

I'm thinking it would also help if there was more dung in the mud mix; it's sticky, and holds everything else together.
