Now I wont say that enough people might owe him favors that he ends up getting the fuel for free anyway, but not because he owned it in the first place. Either way? Revisiting this. I just watched a vid today on Seen through Glass where he visits the largest fuel station in Britain off the M25 with 36 pumps. That petrol station’s entire tank capacity is a million litres. So this vessel has the same fuel capacity as the biggest petrol station in Britain. Crazy when you put it into perspective like that
The new Shell filling station has a total of 141 fuel nozzles and is the only site on the M25 to sell autogas (automotive liquefied petroleum gas) to drivers. It also offers six high speed Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) lanes and three Adblue pumps, a solution designed to help reduce exhaust emissions from diesel engines that is not currently widely available in the UK. The new station has been built to cater for the significant numbers of fleet drivers and motorists travelling on the M25 every day, which, at the most recent count, was 150,000. It has the capacity to serve up to 3,400 vehicles a day, compared to an average of 700 at a standard filling station. In the region of 10,000 vehicles per day are expected to use the overall range of facilities at the Extra Service Area. At least four fuel tankers will be making deliveries on a daily basis. The fuel tanks on site have the capacity to store more than a million litres of fuel - enough to fill over three swimming pools.
Comment may be old but has to be corrected. Even 9 months ago adblue was sold at pretty much every filling station that had a hgv pump. There are ofc some that didn't sell it then and still don't sell it. But they aren't common (ALL WITH HGV PUMPS not just regular cars). And I've yet to come across a filling station that didn't sell it in plastic containers even regular car filling stations. And I use adblue on almost a daily basis. Hgv driver my truck is a thirsty girl but I love her just the same about 9mpg is common but will go to about 1 or 2mpg up a steep hill with a full load. 🚛💗
@@noelht1 Your reply to yourself 2nd paragraph. You say its not widely available in the uk. Adblue has been around quite a while now (can't give an exact date I'm afraid). And it's illegal to run your truck without it.
Follow on question: for an "average" use pattern, what kind of range / duration etc would this fuel provide? Put another way, is this a twice yearly fillup? Monthly? Thanks, love the channel.
It tends to rarely move much, however needs to generate its own power, because no port (to my knowledge) is capable of providing shore power to this behemoth. Digging deeper, vesselfinder.com provides historical tracking and seems to suggest two refuellings in Gibraltar in 2020. This is much less than expected, however they probably go up to 6-7. Fuel is not that big of an expense portion here, as all other costs are simply astronomicalz
Diesel generators are incredibly efficient and their outputs are easily charted. 100 liters per hour provides about 65A or 1500kW. Not knowing the boat at all, I’m gonna estimate that two of these are required to run at all times (load and aux), with a third at standby. So with a diesel consumption of 200 liters an hour, and a tank over 1,000,000 liters you can run your hairdryer onboard for 5000hours or 208 days.
When the boat is at rest, but supplying her own power there will typically be two generators running, one load and one auxiliary. These generators run on set amount of fuel, between 15-50 liters per hour. So you could stay at anchor for a couple lifetimes. I couldn’t find specific info on Dilbars range or consumption, but estimates pointed at a range of 6-10,000nm. That could transport you almost half the way around the world (21,600nm), which would take 350 hours at top speed - just over two weeks. Keep in mind that this was done from my couch, with only minor attention paid to fact checking, and no data specific to Dilbar

s jones Doesn't the yearly operating costs on these mega-yachts really depend on how much their used? If a yacht spends half the year moored at its dock that 10% figure seems high.
Wow! Someone is reading my mind. Two days ago I ask myself exact the same question. Now I am totally perplexed! - Anyway: Whishing all the viewers here and the creator of the videos a great start into 2021!
How far would a fill up take that super yacht? Is the fuel used while it is docked or only when it is actually moving? Do yachts use fuel for energy needs, like operating the lights, stoves, heat, air conditioning, pool cleaners? Are fuel prices for yachts generally the same everywhere or do they fluctuate? Do owners have ways to use yacht costs as a tax deduction?
I'm interested in the costs to operate a large 2-3 mast sailing yacht, fuel costs, crew costs, etc. They seem to have a larger crew due to the needs of the multimasted yacht. And I noted they often have engines and I wondered how much fuel they save or use because of the sails? Also, what's a ballpark cost of a captain and crew for a 150 to 200 foot sailing yacht... Thanks!
The crew? 96 people crammed in a can. I have never seen them relaxing above deck. Sure they have a double cabin the size of what? What about smokers? Are they ever able to use the pool? When docked like Dilbar is most of the time do they come and go from shore? Does the owner provide the shore accommodations? What is there life like? Thanks
And what would be the rang for a fill up? Also, I am thinking they would have a tanker truck there. That probably takes more fuel than the marinas storage tanks hold.
What is the best miles per gallon you've seen in these larger yachts? I expect something like 4mpg on displacement yachts under 20 tonnes, but superyachts have longer waterline by displacement as well.
How long will that fuel last till it needs to be topped off? I’m sure there is several generators running constantly. Just hanging out in the Med for the summer will that last all summer? And idea on its hourly fuel consumption just sitting at anchor?
Wow! That’s more than I make it in a year! .... Sorry... I just redid the Math..... I should say... that’s more than I will make in 20 years! Thanks for the video. Happy New Year!
On the other hand, you're talking about the equivalent of shifting a cul de sac of houses about 7000 nautical miles. That would be quite expensive too. Annoyingly the couple of sites I found its specifications on, leave the range (presumably on one tankful) totally blank.
That of course depends on how much you sail with it. Running costs in total per year are estimated at 50 to 80 million US$. So fuel is just a little part of it 😉 labor costs are highest i think. Normal rule is 20% running costs, this is less then that so pretty accurate. Dont forget its a ship that costs 800.000.000 US$
I once offered to fill up my friends Ford F350 and 28' Aluminum Fishing boat when he took me Salmon fishing. $495 later I decided I would only offer to pay for half of the gas in the boat the next time we went out.
I stumbled on that boat on a trip to Barcelona a few years ago. There were at least 6 tanker trucks ready to go when we walked by. A pretty surreal piece of conspicuous consumption by the Billionaire class to say the least.
Good video, would be interesting to know the full running cost of Dilbar, with all salaries of 96 employees, insurance, food cost, docking fees (know he owns his own marina) ect.
i know the 10% rule, but would be more interesting to go into details what it would cost. salaries is properly not too hard to find out if you know the general pay check of a captain, cleaner, cook ect, and also what it would cost to feed them. Also look into how many times it refills pr year, and how much it spend time in other marinas. How much it cost to insure it, and much to keep helicopter pilots on the boat at any time. ect ect
And so just the fuel alone of a Dilbar vacation would be a couple million dollars for maybe a couple fuel-ups, and that's just for fuel and not food and caviar and thousand dollar thongs. And here I am aint never even been to Hawaii.
He bought Tatoosh for one reason. And that was to party he was famous for his parties. See he found out after taking delivery of Octopus that he would not be allowed to dock Octopus that it was to large for the docks at Cannas and any boat at the docks were not allowed to use helicopters. So Tatoosh was the largest boat they would allow however he still brought Octopus.
After WWII because of the massive contribution by the US, during the Geneva convention it was agreed and sign into a treaty that all international business, communications, payments etc were to be done in US dollars. This is why fuel is always posted in dollars.
I filled my super yacht (well when it grows up it’ll be a super yacht) at $1.40 per litre AU. It holds a massive 250 litres. That equates to the equivalent of a second hand washing machine on eBay 🤣🤣🤣🍺🍺🍺🛥🛥🛥🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
These big carcarriers use to fill up 2800 metric tons of fuel every three months ! An ULCC supertanker consumes 60 - 100 mt / 24 h ! Of course you cant compare but for how long do you stay with one refill with a large yacht ? If you run alot you might also refuel quiet often with that high power ! Must be interesting bunkering a large yacht ! Whar kind of fuelquality do they use ? Mgo or Ulsfo ?
You could buy another yacht for the price of one tank of fuel. Lol obviously a much small yacht but wow! Never thought about that. Great information. Thanks
To put that in perspective. A 40ft Tanker is about 40,000 L, so it would take 25 tankers to fill that 1,000,000 L. Also super yachts of that size get terribly fuel economy, about 150L per nautical mile or about 6NM/1,000 L . So 1Mil L only gets you about 6,000 NM or a London to NY round trip..
Nice little snippet of a video.. Thats how much it costs, but how long would it take to go from empty to full?? Which also begs the question, does a refuel at sea service exist??
@@johnturner2175 Sounds to cheep, tristan made a video about 37m awol, that was 1m/year and then that was not every cost and with 6 crew. octopus has 63 crew, 2 helicopters, submarine, higher classification and the list goes on :-)
I got my tank really low on Wednesday so I was able to put 81 litres of fuel in! my car. It was as low as I dared go. Only 15 miles range left, so I could maximise my offer. Huge bill, but a great discount. I was so happy because Shell Go app offered me a discount of 8p per litre on the pump price of 112.9 ppl ! Plus 10% off a coffee! Get in! Beat that Dilbar!
I noticed a photo of Dilbar. And the boat next to it was much smaller. So I got to thinking... that boat is probably smaller than Dilbars fuel tanks as a comparison. Talk about a run-on sentence. In any event a very Happy New Year to you and yours. Hopefully 2021 will surpass 2020. Which is not a high bar to get over.
That is basically an impossible question. The yacht makes power to run the boat while it's docked. It might not take that much power, considering, but you still have to run the engines at a pretty inefficient speed. Then it depends on how fast the boat is going. The difference between cruising speed and top speed as far as range goes is significant. However... MY Eclipse has about the same fuel capacity, is just a bit longer and a bit less volume, goes about 6000 nautical miles at cruising speed. Dilbar probably doesn't do quite as well as it is shorter and fatter, which, afaik, would decrease the efficiency. Not by much though.
Serious question though. The fuel truck that comes to fill up the local petrol station holds I think only around 50,000 litres, so this is like 20 of those! Where the hell do they store all that fuel to bunker to the yacht? Or do a fleet of tankers come down to the dockside and bunker directly to it?
Sometimes they use the trucks, and yes multiple trucks lined up. Other times marinas have fuel stations built in to the dock and sometimes bunker barges.
@@YachtReport Another thought, and I’m sure you know the answer.
Happy New Year to you, keep up the good work
A yacht is expensive and needs regular filling up, just like a beautiful wife.
Enjoy while you can. Life is short. Happy New Year, everyone.
hahaha!!!!
I once had a customer tell me “No matter how beautiful and hot they are there’s always a guy somewhere who’s sick of their shit”. Lol!
If it flies, floats or fucks, rent it
That feeling when a Lamborghini is very likely to be used as an example.
What is the best miles per gallon you've seen in these larger yachts?
I expect something like 4mpg on displacement yachts under 20 tonnes, but superyachts have longer waterline by displacement as well.
That’s crazy how much money!
Love your videos.
Kind reminder: One million and forty nine thousand : 1’049’000 (not 1’000’049)
Haha, you're correct. Math isn't their thing.
Begs the question, was it a miss type, or a miss speak. Has Dilbar approx 1mil litre capacity, or approx 1.5mil litre capacity.
Right, but how often do they fill it? How far can it go on a tank?
Thank you so much for your vivie. I love watching them
On the other hand, you're talking about the equivalent of shifting a cul de sac of houses about 7000 nautical miles. That would be quite expensive too. Annoyingly the couple of sites I found its specifications on, leave the range (presumably on one tankful) totally blank.
how often does Dilbar need to be refilled? just so i can have a understanding of how much it costs on a yearly basis.
That of course depends on how much you sail with it. Running costs in total per year are estimated at 50 to 80 million US$. So fuel is just a little part of it 😉 labor costs are highest i think. Normal rule is 20% running costs, this is less then that so pretty accurate. Dont forget its a ship that costs 800.000.000 US$
@@bertpierey3655 must be nice to be rich
Yes must be very nice. Can only dream of it. But i.m happy, do have a smaller boat myself so that is something already.
I wonder how many times they have to fill up these Goliaths. 😂
As long as they are port the use is “minimal” say about max 10m3 gasoil per day as hotel use. 1000/10= 100 days in port so refueling every 3 months.
I was going to buy dilbar,, but my plasterers wages won't pay for the fuel, 😂
Mark Bradley I bet you're close though!
I wish 😂
I once offered to fill up my friends Ford F350 and 28' Aluminum Fishing boat when he took me Salmon fishing. $495 later I decided I would only offer to pay for half of the gas in the boat the next time we went out.
I stumbled on that boat on a trip to Barcelona a few years ago. There were at least 6 tanker trucks ready to go when we walked by. A pretty surreal piece of conspicuous consumption by the Billionaire class to say the least.
Are jobs fairly transient ... in that people move from boat to boat fairly regularly, or do crew tend to gravitate?
I saw this in Barcelona. The owner of theirs yacht also had his ‘smaller’ yacht further down the quay. Amazing what money can get you.
How long would the fuel last. How many times a year on average would they fill up.
Amazing. Just imagine how many millions are spent per year on just fuel, exculding all other costs: maintaince, crew salaries etc, etc.
50-80 million a year
Hiya, Happy New Year from Bolton, Mancs, stay safe...Steve...
For the cost of one fill up, I could buy what would be a pretty impressive Yacht here in Vancouver. Not a Super yacht but a very nice boat.
Good video, would be interesting to know the full running cost of Dilbar, with all salaries of 96 employees, insurance, food cost, docking fees (know he owns his own marina) ect.
There's a 'general rule of thumb' cost for that. 10% of the value of the boat. Find out how much Dilbar costs and then it's 10% of that.
Annual running costs for Dilbar is 30 to $50 million.
i know the 10% rule, but would be more interesting to go into details what it would cost. salaries is properly not too hard to find out if you know the general pay check of a captain, cleaner, cook ect, and also what it would cost to feed them.
Also look into how many times it refills pr year, and how much it spend time in other marinas.
How much it cost to insure it, and much to keep helicopter pilots on the boat at any time. ect ect
@@farzana6676 Thanks for the very detailed answer
If he'd had it built properly with four masts and four full sets of sails he could cut his fuel bill by 90%.
I can assure you he's not worried about money savings
If you can afford to own Dilbar, your probably not worried about what it cost to fill her fuel tanks.
And so just the fuel alone of a Dilbar vacation would be a couple million dollars for maybe a couple fuel-ups, and that's just for fuel and not food and caviar and thousand dollar thongs. And here I am aint never even been to Hawaii.
Esysman is my first RUclips video of 2021. It’s going to be a great year.
Snap :)
So putting 5 pounds/dollars/yen in the tank won't help too much , will it?
Crazy money happy New Year !
How often would you have to fill up if it was just in port running on generators with min crew?
I know there are many factors involved, but how often would Dilbar need to be refueled?
Based on the Paul’s boat, Dilbar is in the half a million per week ball park to operate.
Paul Allen never owned Dilbar. Besides he is dead (2018).
@@kokomo9764 anyone know why Paul owned a second yacht called Tatoosh
$24 million a year sounds about right. But the real figure really depends on how much the yacht is used.
How far does it go with a full tank?
That's just pocket change! 😉 Happy New Year!
Bill Fournier For a multi-billionaire.
I like this format where you answer THE question the title says! Not being a smart ass, just saying I like this
These big carcarriers use to fill up 2800 metric tons of fuel every three months !
@ 0:43 Is it 1,000,049 like it is written or 1,049,000 like you say?
Is it 220,000 US liquid gallons or is it Imperial gallons?
How many miles with a full tank? ;-)
You could buy another yacht for the price of one tank of fuel. Lol obviously a much small yacht but wow! Never thought about that. Great information. Thanks
It would be great to see what this cost would be by comparison with the current price of marine diesel in the first quarter of 2022!
How long does the fuel last ?
So when oil went to -$40/barrel, were the owners of this Superyacht paid to fill it up?
To put that in perspective.
A 40ft Tanker is about 40,000 L, so it would take 25 tankers to fill that 1,000,000 L.
Also super yachts of that size get terribly fuel economy, about 150L per nautical mile or about 6NM/1,000 L .
So 1Mil L only gets you about 6,000 NM or a London to NY round trip..
So how far do you come on one tank of fuel??
Nice little snippet of a video..
Thats how much it costs, but how long would it take to go from empty to full??
Which also begs the question, does a refuel at sea service exist??
Is one tank enough to cross the Atlantic back and forth?
Good question
This is a good statistic. Would like to know how long this fuel lasts or average sea miles it can cover with this amount of fuel.
How much does it last one fill up?
That’s a lot of money in any language. I read that it cost Paul Allen to run Octopus 320,000 per week, when you include maintenance and payroll.
Must be more then that
@@volvomicke999 I bet your correct
@@johnturner2175 Sounds to cheep, tristan made a video about 37m awol, that was 1m/year and then that was not every cost and with 6 crew. octopus has 63 crew, 2 helicopters, submarine, higher classification and the list goes on :-)
Paul Allen is dead.
2018
I got my tank really low on Wednesday so I was able to put 81 litres of fuel in! my car. It was as low as I dared go. Only 15 miles range left, so I could maximise my offer.
Huge bill, but a great discount.
I was so happy because Shell Go app offered me a discount of 8p per litre on the pump price of 112.9 ppl ! Plus 10% off a coffee!
Get in!
Beat that Dilbar!
Question 2: how many miles per gallon does it travel / what does 1 mile cost?
I think that should be how many gallons to the mile.
What marina has a 220,000 gallon storage tank of fuel? It would take approx. 20 tanker trucks to fill it up.
How long will it go one that fill up?
Would it run on vegetable oil
That's crazy capacity! That's also 1/3 the capacity of an olympic size swimming pool (660,430 gallong) according to the googles. WOW!!
How far does a tank get you though?
once filled how many miles till empty for the dilbar?
How long does it take to get that much fuel into the yacht? I imagine a refuel would take hours.
@@YachtReport thank you Bro. Love the vids.
@@YachtReport Another thought, and I’m sure you know the answer. If they’re alongside or at anchor for months, like during the pandemic, how do they manage the microbial fungal growth in the fuel and lines? I’ve had to offload snd Chuck away 120 litres before now, snd that hurt. Image that with a million litres.
