Dilbar was built by Lurssen in 2016. The superyacht is designed by Espen Oeino.
Her owner is Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. He named all his luxury yachts: Dilbar.

If I was a multi billionaire, I don't think I would really want something this size UNLESS I had a huge family and lots of special friends. The sheer size makes this yacht a ship. And I wouldn't mind betting the owner uses it for no more than three months a year.
I think it's the same reason those arabic billionaires live in massive palaces with lots of hidden ways and way too much space:
They don't want the staff to interfere too much with them and their guests. They have these huge houses over in arabia, but you don't ever see any of the 30 people working there at all times, because they are not meant to constantly dangle through the private part of the owner all the time.
Same with yachts I suppose. The bigger the boat, the less need to weasel between the bosses feet.

The problem is resale. The crazier the design, the more difficult it would be to sell. Yacht owners don't usually stick to one yacht for the rest of their lives. They build, sell and build again.

Anyone have any guesses at to what the master's (captain) salary is? I know captains on yachts of even 200 feet make great money, but this would have to be insane money. What do the yearly incomes start looking like when the boats get over 400 feet long?
The capt.of this one got 30,000 usd$ a month. But everyone got fired when the yacht got frozen.. No severance pay, either. Russian oligarchs are not much on treating labor well.

Lurssen didn't design her. Tim Heywood did and ALL his boats look the same.

The 512' Dilbar is not the biggest yacht. Azzam at 590' is.

Most are registered under crown territories such as the Cayman Islands. Tax status, British law (which is well known and understood throughout the western world) and consular support all apply when under this flag. Also, the vessel can easily switch port from one red ensign to another - Cayman to Gibraltar. There are many perks and the infrastructure is all there and ready from an operation standpoint.

Если бы я была миллиардером, я не думаю, что я действительно хотела бы иметь яхту такого размера,даже если есть огромная семья и много хороших друзей. Огромные размеры делают эту яхту кораблем. Я предпологаю что Усманов использует её в течение не более 1 месяца в году. А расходы на содержание и оплату персоналу ...?????
Не думаю что дороже приличного замка где нибудь во Франции, с той лишь разницей что всегда можно продать владельцу любого региона мира, и не надо платить ежегодный налог. А причал можно иметь и свой. Да и статус в обществе в определенных кругах всегда стоил дорого. Конечно редко когда яхта такого класса может вернуть владельцу полную стоимость при перепродаже. В данном случае думаю , а какая разница.

Can you imagine someone using this yacht for their wife and 2 kids? Does every person get their own floor? Even if you have $85 billion like Bill Gates today. Do you really need a yacht that's 500 feet long? It looks gigantic from the outside, from the inside it must seem much bigger especially for a family of 4.
Imagine going on a cruise. But instead of seeing 1500 people all around you, you're all alone with your wife and 2 kids. Just imagine that for a second. Isn't that overboard too much?
people like alisher usmanov have many people around them all the time, they need so many people to be able to keep their business empires functioning, many jobs depend on that and many people and companies got jobs at building this ship.. talking about the environmental impact and used non renewable resources on this project is a different story

right, the owner spends two or three weeks per year on this yacht and the rest of the year fifty people work there to keep the ship clean. So at least the owner created employment although with that amount of money he could create jobs for ten thousand people..

Not according to the spec on the new Dilbar, she has accommodation for 40 guests, and the old Dilbar had accommodation for 20, so ol Alisher Usmanov found 20 new 'friends'. lol The SOLAS regulation usually restricts the number of guests to 12, which is why smaller super and mega yachts usually have accommodation for just 12 plus the owner and his squeeze, but Dilbar as she can fit 40, is probably classified as a commercial ship and comes under a different set of rules, plus she is big enough to be classed as a ship, and not a yacht.

Reality for others in the world....
