I could only dream of having one and had to be happy with my legnano..never saw a kids bike that small, gorgeous!
Hi Jon I bought an used willier bike, pretty much similar to the yellow one but in red (alpes d’huez) for 120€, i love riding this bike, lts light and very responsive. Came with that old Dura Ace, swapped the crank because i live in a montain area and 39-28 is too hard for me, funny part is that the old tech Dura Ace is still lighter than new 10s 105. I love the bike Cheers
A pity you had to change the crank, it is so beatiful. But I do understand, Igot that groupset and I run 39/27 and because of that I can't use the groupset for bikepacking in the mountains. Hilly rides without luggage, yes, but no long climbs with tent and stuff, too weak for that. Great bargain, your bike. And thanks for the info that it's lighter than whatever. Light is always good :-)
@@chrisko6439 I still have the crank, I'm even thinking about putting it back in, that being said, I'm not sure that i will use it again as a climbing bike until i get very fit, i hit the 170bpm fairly easily with that gear range 😥

The Pantani bike of choice though has to be his 1998 tour winning Bianchi, Italian, with Campagnolo groupset, on an Italian team with an Italian rider. That raid on the Glibber during that rain, the bags under Ullrich's eyes, his labouring pedalling and the loss of metres with each passing second. The best days racing in my humble opinion of all time. Shown live on Eurosport, David Duffield commentating. Today I reckon that stage would have been shortened due to the weather, denying all involved that look at sporting greatness. The other bike for the collector? Greg Lemond's TT winning Bottechia of the last stage of the 1989 tour. Lemond threw the best shapes on the bike and is to my mind one of only three riders in the history of the sport to have won the tour completely clean. But who are the other two?

john c'mon that bottle cage on Pantani's TT bike is a Ciussi Inox. Can be bought round the corner for 20 quid. But it's still a really nice, sturdy, reliable and light bottle cage (for the weight weenies it weighs around 50g)
I think Pantani's stem is dialed to his prefered riding position - Standing up and crouching down at the same time. He was unaware his custom saddle was uncomfortable, because he never spent enough time sitting down to notice it.

I would love to see what you can find at the basso bikes headquarters or deposit (if they keep bikes, I actually don't know), I know you like weird Italian hand made bikes and parts, like corse corse in Japan. It would be fantastic to see what they have hidden in there. I know they don't have a big history and are not really well known but hey, that's the fun, you don't know what you may find
Jon Marko pandani yellow is superb it stands out a mile class I remember pandani cycling this bike in the mid to late 90s in tour to France. giro del Italia
I liked the wooden bike but you try to see if the De Bernardi Bike Company still exists. Mr. De Bernardi used to be the engineer for the Legnano Bike Company. I do own a custom built De Bernardi Thirty Speed Road Bike from scratch. I would like to see the history of this Bike Company. Their bikes can be brought on eBay as a frame set and through another seller as a complete bike. Cheers!
My favorite bike was the one you did not show, made of Columbus SL, with Campanolo NuvoRecord or Gipiemme I was at the old factory headquarters/outlet in 1984 When in Rossano Veneto, did you climb Monta Grappa? I used a 42-21 and took 2 hours (190lb)
@Jon Cannings I got a bike with a 3T Forge Ahead stem just like the one on the Pantani bike (Dura Ace 7700 groupset as well). I was wondering about that strange clamping mechanism (stem/steerer tube) and if it's safe?
I like the time trial aero one at the very end and the kids bike is cool for novelty...plus the cool copper paint. Jon your passion for vintage bikes is the best part of this channel for me. Curious how that wooden bike was made. It looks like a single piece but that would take one large tree to create. Did they take the orientation of the wood grain into account when building it, similar to what we do now with carbon?

The Italian way is the same routing for bicycles sold as new from retailers. Front/right, rear/left
15:23 - IIRC lots of vintage Italian bikes were cabled up for right-hand front brake as that's how Coppi had his cabled
