A 6,8 kg discbrakebike that rides really good. Sounds like the perfect bike to me.... If it was quite a bit less expensive.
And without the disc brakes 😂
Well, if it was aero that would be the dream
I'm liking how you are doing these reviews. It feels transparent and honest. Using house wheels is so important. Would love to see more mid/budget in the future. A mid level bike you can upgrade is the sweet spot for almost everyone
Its not honest thats the problem with getting payed to make reviews....
Crazy over priced. Looks cool tho. Stick with the polaroid's for the board.
In a sea or black, white, red and blue bikes, I appreciate green. Well done, Wilier
There's also the white, red and blue Groupama-FDJ variant, though :D
@@dasf89 I swear those are BMW colours
You guys really upped your game lately in your videos. Hats off. Love how you categorize the bikes (remortgage your house is spot on).
There are a lot of people who wouldn’t need to remortgage their house.
I'll be honest the price kind of surprised me. It just doesn't look like a £9000 bike. If you said £7000, I would have probably nodded, but I was honestly shocked at the price, because it doesn't have that extra panache needed for a hyperbike.
I think it is the green color on the frame. If you check the gloss red one on their website it looks super expensive
The difference that wheels make to a ride is so huge that your decision to use a set of shop wheels to standardize test rides is sort of genius.. (not sure if that might be a tad hyperbolic...)
House wheels add an interesting perspective, but I'm not sure how much practical use they are at least for high end bikes, since almost no one will be riding those bikes with such wheels in practice.
It isn't as if the wheels aren't part of the bike and included in the price.
Officially my favourite cycling crew. Knowledge without any twat level arrogance. Just some decent lads that love bike, know bike and make me enjoy cycling more! Smashing job!
I really appreciate the design and bold color choice. It reaffirms to me (much like the Aethos did) that bikes are simple machines that really don’t need to be over engineered. Nice traditional seat stay, light, practical geometry. Road Double.
That said I would never pay $10,000+ for a bike when I could get the same weight with a rim brake TCR for 1/4 of the price just by swapping out the wheels and some of the group. Or any rim road bike from a few years back.
I think the bike industry has duped people into thinking new tech is improving bikes, when bikes were truly perfected half a decade ago.
It’s amazing to me how much people will spend for such minimal gains. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bitter about it, I really enjoy watching it happen. And as a cycling enthusiast, I’m glad to see the industry thriving and I love seeing what direction new trends take each year.
Well put
the polaroid pic was actually a nice touch. I vote for to continue to use them for the cool wall!
agreed on bars not being flat / parallel to the ground in the drops. definitely a pet peeve of mine too. i don't mind flared bars, but not overly flared. i find ENVE's design cue on that to be a happy medium all around with their 35/40 and 37/42 widths.
Extra points for not dropping the seat stays
Thanks Francis and Jimmi , looks nice from here too ... and all of my walls are cool !
This is giving me old top gear vibe. I love their cool wall. You need a mini freezer for the super cooooooool. I love it.
Great video, this is how cycling media should be. Climbing focussed bikes with a bit of aero might be an upcoming thing: Orbea Orca. Also for the looks, not everybody likes the massive aero bikes.
These are good reviews. Love the data/ analysis of size and build etc… actually refreshing format. Thanks for the efforts…
AstanaQazTeam have clearly chosen this 'long' bike to assit Cav over the finish line with the extra length.😛
turning on the lights was the best decision to make it lighter.
Honest, thoughtful review chaps, nice one ! 👏 The first of many 👍. Have a great week ahead !
I have to agree with Jimmi. I expect more for 10000+ $ at this point. There is just nothing special about the bike. And NO cool green paint job is not worth that much money.
Yeah. It looks extremely underwhelming even compared to any brand new bike in 2024, let alone anything in that price range. I'd much prefer that Van Rysel, much cooler bike for much less money
I have a candy apple green Cove stiffee retro MTB. Everyone remarks on the colour, how nice it is and how it "pops" with its black accessories
'coz it'll be lighter' GOLD! #respect! lol
Loving your approach to these reviews . You guys are nearly as cool as the mint green paint job on that Wilier. I would be interested to hear what you make of the Basso diamante. Keep up the excellent work and looking forward to the next episode
Yes please ❤
I've just bought a second hand Wilier Cento10. Basically the same bike Francis had.
Honestly I am loving it! It feels so bluming nice! My first 'expensive' bike. The quality feels so good. Lightweight doesn't bother me, I weigh 85kg. I just want something that looks 👌, and a red Wilier for me is on par with a Celeste bianchi.
10:18 Get Wilier to send their frames to Martin Grey at ETOE for a proper paint job.
I'm with you, I am not a fan of the flared bars, but I did like that paint color. Can't justify that price for that bike though, if I was going to spend that kind of cash, I going with a Moots.
Seems this would be a competitor to the Orbea Orca, which I would choose over this.
Personally I’d take the aethos with a traditional 27.2mm seat post and no faff bar and stem
I flaired my 38cm alloy bars because my knees hit the drops on steep climbs, that may be the reason for those…
Or, look at Profile Design's DRV/GMR Gravel bar. Available from 36cm C-to-C, it doesn't flare at the hoods, just the drops so it's excellent as a 'road' bar too (the flare is great for sprinting). It has a modest rise of 9mm (and flat top), so if you're not slammed you can loose a 10mm spacer but get the same fit!
Thanks, Francis and Jimmi, for the look-see at this Wllier. I like the color, maybe a shout to Cannondale? And I like the taillight. And I like that the bars match the frame in color. Still, however, I much prefer a separate bar and stem and c'mon, bars should be comfortable in all positions, how many watts does a flat top actually save, not worth the lack of comfort or even safety if a rider is forced to ride in a less desired position. Just a few thoughts from a window shopper, no way could I afford that right now and that's okay, no jealousy, nothing but cheers for anyone on their dream bike or bikes. 😀
Great video, guys. To answer your question,I think this bike does fit within the Aethos market - I.e., a bike for those who’ve been riding a while, holding on to their rim brake rides, and waiting for a disc brake bike that maintained the lightweight ethos of yesteryear, but with all the modern developments in bike and component design. That said, to really compete with the Aethos market, I think Willier would have done better were it to aim for the (upper) mid-range price wise.
How is bottom bracket stiffness for this bike? I've seen some criticism of Aethos for being flexy, and that's a potential drawback of ultralight frames.
The cool wall needs to have an x and y axis representing Jimmy and Francis
300K subs, Lets goooo!
Very lightweight climbing specialist competitors would be:
• Bianchi Specialissima
• Orbea Orca
• Factor O2 VAM
I quite like the look of the Specialissima, but some people really hate it. Orca is nice and has a lot of lower tier build options, and a cheaper layup frame to bring the cost down further. O2 VAM price is madness, and somehow they managed to make the massive headtube look really ugly as well in the larger sizes.
Maybe Canyon Ultimate could be added to the list? but I don't know if it's as light as these newer models. You could also try Yonex from Japan as well, not sure how you would buy and import one though, and they recommend a maximum rider weight of 70kg, but I've heard it said their carbon quality is second only to TIME.
Good to see Wilier. I really enjoyed riding Wilier Cento 10 NDR, should have kept it. Super comfy and well made. However, I don't think I will be able to afford new Wilier bikes any more lol
👍for the colour. This is the perfect bike for the 1%.
Not being rich or a racer, I will admire from afar😍.
Nice review
I like the green, but think I would prefer a black handle bar. Surprised you never commented on the bar color. This bike reminded me a lot of my light weight 2020 Scott Addict RC Pro. I absolutely love that bike.
TDF coming up.... climbing bike..... yeah, green's the one, that's perfect.
...though i'd hardly expect them to release a polka dot bike.
Maybe Wilier measure outer to outer like Deda? as opposed to centre to centre.
HAH, 5:38 ! they got their punctuation wrong too, so maybe it is very very precisely 1 euro?
Love that you guys are comfortable to speak freely about these bikes, great little review. I'd sit that as a proper good too!
and it is nice to have a fresh colour for a new bike too.
Oh, this was a fun video, guys. I mean, that bike is totally out of my league on so many levels, but I love it because... well, I'm with Francis on this one: the colour is amazing. I may be biased though. I own a custom Marinoni (which nevertheless cost me probably 1/3 the price of this bike) in a very similar colour. I bought it in 2019, and I still love it. So I guess that means I am also about 5 years behind the times? :)
I think you are being very honest in your assessments, which is a good thing IMHO, but some brands may be wary about having such things said about their shiny (“snot”, “Hulk” green) new products. There were several times in this vid where I might, if I was a bike brand marketing manager, wince.
' horrible but kinda cool things'
....'like you'
Francis is on frikkin fire on this one! lol
That paint job looks mint!
Basically copied my S-Works Tarmac SL7 Snake Eyes paint job
love the pun...if you meant it lol
@@out_spocken 💯 he said the paint job was meh lol
Go home dad. 😂
Don’t have comparable - but here’s a request. Would be cool to hear your guys views on the Pina Dogma X!
Considering the fact that I'm currently riding the Wilier Zero SLR, and I love it, this bike is God-Tier for me...
Surely the new TCR is a competitor?
Yeah proper good sounds about right.
Stick with the Polaroids for the wall!
The bike looks good indeed. It's difficult for me (and i guess the same happens with people here in Chile) to really understand and rate the prices of some bikes because -for our standards- they are way up in the stratosphere.
Happy to see the first addition to the cool wall !
That green is gorgeous.
I would have one thanks. It is a “want” thanks Jimmy. It would be closest thing I have an an Italian racing whatever in my garage. It could replace the Centro 10 Air I have.
had exactly the same problems with my Jena paint job, olive green one
That price tag is...heafty!
Proper good it is
Love the look and the color, but not the price tag haha! But anyway not a bike for me going slow - but it is nice to look at.
Honestly, I know you said you just didn't have a printer yet... but I kind of like the aesthetic of using polaroids for the wall, worth considering keeping them.
Really like your videos and approach! Is there a video out where you mention what your test wheels are and what you like about them? Always looking for well-performing aluminium wheels. Cheers!
I’d take that over the dogma f. Great video!
Totally agree with the drops of the bars it a no go just because of that for me
I would think this would be a competitor for the TCR.
I'm interested in this company, as you can seem to get a varient of their previous Gravel bike Jena from Velo-build, the GF-003. Curious on their new frames and how they stacked up. Nice video!
At that price I'll stick with my trusty ol' Willier GTR, which allows for easy handlebar adjustments : D .
The 2021 specialissima is probably the closest competition to this. At half the price.
Scott out willier in.
Jimmi proper buffed up❤
All you need is some wigs, shiny jackets and you guys could be the cycling version of "44 Teeth"
For those who know 😂
The green displays sir cav attacking the sprints in the tdf like the hulk🤣
Keep up the stella work team.
2:18 That's where you lost me!
What did you imagine a top-line bike decked with top-line components would cost?
@@br5380 Ha'penny and a conker!
Heavy Price !!!
Keep the polaroids, could you look at comparing to the orbea orca climbing bike?
Have a look at a sarto venito sl disc, cheaper and it's a custom hand built frameset. 👍
When will there be an Aethos with integrated cables?…🤩🤞🏻🤞🏻
Absolute rascal outfit being worn by Jimmy!
Ah, once again the weather doesn’t disappoint. Is this the English summer?
For that kinda money they should have snotted on the stem top cap so it colour matches the bars 🙄
It really stands out like a little black hole in a galaxy of green!
Also the black steerer spacers would also be better colour matched.
For Jimmi's point about rivals, it's not an all-rounder like the Colnago V4RS or the Tarmac. I'd put it in the same category of pure climbing bikes as the Cervelo R5.
Cool wall... All we need next is a different pro to turn up weekly and set a best time round the local motor racing circuit. Then introduce an anonymous ex-pro always wearing the lastest Giro tt helmet to set times for the bikes on test...😅
Finally a bike that has paint on it, not just a primer coat 😅
If you change wheels, you should use the same tires, too
BTW, what's the DT Swiss "standard" that you're using for comparison purposes? PR1400?
I would like to see what you think about Tarmac SL8 vs Wilier Verticale SLR. Do same kind of video but wit SL8. Thanks
I want a review of your pink Time!
Look soooo much better with original wheels and tires
It looks beautiful and by all means I love Wilier Bikes. But I don't see why anyone would not go for the cheaper O SLR. My fully built 0slr weights 7.1kg with pedals,50mm carbon rims and all mounts, so I don't really think there is a world of a difference .
Green bike, you got my attention and my money lol
If I were in the market for a $$$$$ bike, this Wilier would be up there, fluorescent green and all 🦠
Listening and reading the reviews it seems like the Aethos is indeed the main competitor. But I wouldn’t trade my Aethos for anything
A sub-7kg bike can probably be made with Aliexpress parts for less than 3000. My frame has 60k on it, a lot of big 2000m descends and bikepacking, has been dropped and crashed numerous times, cost me 250€ and only now shows some bubbling on the top tube. I somehow have headaches when I see such expensives bikes. Same thing with running shoes, most cost a fraction of the price the customer pays, just because of the branding...
isn't this a direct competitor for the TCR and the Canyon Ultimate? Paint job is sick.
5:01 Wilier FINALLY make a real NARROW Handlebar!!!
OMG!!!!! You pronounced Miche correctly!!!!
I'm afraid my cool wall is way narrower and limited by prices. 😉(and it is reserved for gravel bikes in reality, but don't tell anyone 😉). Anyway, the bike looks great, and while I would like something more endurance/allroad-oriented for myself, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to ride such a bike. I'm getting old I guess... So what bikes are ridden now?
😂😂😂13,400 Euros! For that color! NO EFFIN WAY!!! 😂😂😂
Lets go to work for 3 months to be barely able to afford that.
Stick to the Polaroids, it fits the vibe. Fujifilm has a digital Polaroid camera that can print photos from other sources.
You need to test a Ritchey Road Logic
Why not push the launch date back to get the paint job done right?
Direkt competitor to the factor o2 vam, canyon ultimate, scott addict
Dream bike for alpine climbs and descents? (light + discs) Would probably buy something more aero and half a kg heavier anyway if i had the cash.
I want to know your thoughts on the winspace bikes
I had a green bike once, but not pricey. Kinda miss it.
Is there a place for climbing bikes any more when aero bikes are faster and often as light?
Love the content but would like to know has Jimmy always been an angry little fellow? Keep up the great work team.
Please do polaroids of all the bikes for they cool wall thats so fucking dumb I love it
