This is Part 1, of a 4 Part series on how to service a Seat Arona. Check out my Arona playlist 😏

Thanks for doing the video. Your findings support most oil charts that say 4 litres for this little VAG 1 litre engine. On recent models, VAG have switched the recommendation to 0W-20 oil which I suspect has more to do with getting (cold engine resistance) and thus emissions, as low as possible. I doubt there is any problem at all with 5W-30 which was the usual recommendation for 2010 onward VAG cars.

Thanks for the positive feedback 👍
I did wonder about people commenting on a thinner oil. I just direct people to their owners manual 😉
The little 1.0 engine appears to be adequately powered for our driving around town and performs well on a run.
I’ll probably have an intake treatment within the next year because of the direct injection.
      Regards Sandy.

    Very interesting video!
But why do you use 5W30 and not 0W20?
I have an Arona built in 2021 facelift and the thinner oil goes in there, but the operating instructions say that 5W30 goes in...
    What is correct now?

      Thanks for the question.
I looked in my owners manual that came with the car and it specified VW 504 00
I did a quick search and this came up with the 5W30
When i purchased the oil the shop also said the same viscosity as i thought.
      Hope this helps 👍

Thanks for the video, very informative. Workshop manual says "Fill oil filter with engine oil and tighten it" though. I know some people believe you should fill it, some think you shouldn't, what are your thoughts on that?

Thanks for the positive comment 👍
      I don’t pre-fill my filters, BUT… that doesn’t mean i’m doing it to the correct specification 😂
It’s not possible to pre-fill the filter in this application because the filter is mounted on the side of the engine therefore any oil would just spill out.
It’s just essential to re-check the oil level after the engine has been run as the filter elements and the filter can does actually gulp some oil 👍
I wonder what they do in the factory when the engines are assembled? 🤔

@@gilberesrepairs that makes sense, thanks for the reply. just got a used arona for my wife, did the oil change at a dealer, but i was thinking to do it myself next time. thanks again

@@bogde Yes, definitely do it yourself next time around. There’s plenty of room around the engine as it’s only a little 1.0, 3 cylinder 👍
As you can see from my other videos it’s a straight forward engine to service. I will do the spark plugs sometime this year and put it on my channel 👍
If there’s anything you want to know, contact me and i’ll try to do a vid.

Probably front brakes and a gearbox oil change for the Arona in the early part of next year 😉

Do you live in the UK or elsewhere? I think the oil viscosity can vary due to the climate of the country the car is sold... Different from Alaska to Saudi.
      Interesting subject! 👍
