As a fellow Asian, I don't think Jort's attitude towards the Chinese was condescending in the least; rather, it's an accurate reflection of the undeniable biases in the menswear industry. It's good to get it out there because it shows the change in his attitude after experiencing what SuitSupply's workers can do. Don't be overly-sensitive! Great job on SuitSupply for showing us the non-sweatshop conditions of their factory.
I understand people are feeling weird about this but I think they are very honest and showing transparency which is important for many of us as it creates trust.
@@growingmelancholy8374 I mean, all companies do in this industry, except those that sell at premium prices. Which unfortunately not many can afford. If those workers did not work for suitsupply, or in fact any western company, they'd be working for a chinese firm and be paid the same (probably even less, as chinese giants can get away with a lot of things thanks to support from government). So, while this video feels a bit weird, that's because they are being straight up honest whereas most comparable brands would simply try to sweep it under the rag.
I agree it was a bit weird, I guess it's because we are not used to hear such an honest and straightforward video. Marketing tries to sugar coat everything....this went straight to the facts, yes its made in china, etc etc
Great to see some behind the scenes work, Jort is a legend I have a couple of his suits and they're as good as anything that comes out of Italy at twice the price
I'm puzzled as to why Chinese people would find this video condescending. It is underlined that the Chinese people are hard workers, are great at craftsmanship, and he even gives a reason as to why the biases of Europe about the Chinese industry (everything from China is 'rubbish') are not true. Sure, that bias itself might be condescending, but to ignore it would just be bad marketing. A video should explain what customers think (keep in mind that this includes and probably mostly consists of European middle-aged or older men), and I am of the opinion that this video does that very well.
It’s funny how nobody gets the free market. These people aren’t forced to work there. They chose the job because it’s the best they could have. Raising the wage would be less jobs, which would cause people to be out of food because we decided the job to be beneath some Western standard. I am Dutch and I think Jort’s directness and honesty is virtuous.
I'm interested in the lives of the employees. Are they happy? Do they truly feel satisfied with the work they're doing everyday, do they have similar opportunities in their lives?
No, at this moment the salary in China is quite higher. In Shanghai, generally, net salary almost reach the avarage salary in NL. In wenzhou, it can be lower indeed. But 1 dollars per day is impossible.
I already said: 1 dollars per day is impossible. They are working in the town close by Shanghai. The lowest salary there is around 300 euro per month. Don't misunderstand and make "issue".
The opinion what I gave is about the cost of labor in that location. Wenzhou is close by Shanghai and their salary is not what you or he expected. And I just gave a sort of correction. It is not zero sense at all as you said. Another truth is that some of the west manufactures already left from China because of the cost of labor.
I’ll start buying their products when they bring the factories to Europe. Plus it is a Dutch company. Dutch only understand about money, not about quality tailoring. I don’t care how much honesty the brand is selling here, I’ll stick to Italians.
I found very offensive you say that the Chinese are working twice as hard as the italians and that our capability of making good suits is deteriorated.
@M. J. it's perceived as weird because it's so straightforward and honest, no one company would dare to show and admit that their stuff is made in a Chinese factory, yet he gives a lot of valid points about why China is a good option.
Depends. Stack them (the cheaper Suit supply line) up against a Boggi suit that is twice as expensive and Boggi loses by far. Of course, it does not compare to real Italian craftsmanship but then your suit will be >1609eur
@@datshitcray £850 made in Italy paul smith suit is easily better than any suit supply to me. Then again I just don't buy chines made clothing. So you could say I'm biased.

Anyone know what the factory is called? or their website address> Thanks

Similar opportunities to what? Europeans? In 2020 actually, better. They’re doing better than us this year.

Where do they get their fabrics? Thats right, Italy, the country he is trying to diss with his cheap suit copies.
Trying to diss, can you even read lol? He says that the best suits are still in Italy, but the craftmanship is too expensive, which I can understand.

It's for skinny people only. If you have a bit stronger arms and thighs and you are athletic or lift weights don't buy it.
Ilija Tomasovic dont wear a suit if you shaped like a toy figurine bro
UnrulyST I'm just a bit athletic. Nothing much. Suit must be tailor made, otherwise it's a gamble
most suits seem poor today if you got large thighs like me.
