    The M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air are finally here! But there is one 'tiny' detail that Apple forgot to mention...
    These are without a doubt wonderful tablets from a hardware perspective, but how could they truly become great? Apple targets designers, artists and the like but what about those who want to make the most of their tablet instead of having to go to a laptop whenever something more complex needs doing?

      I have both the Mac Pro and the iPad Pro 11" with keyboard, and I use the iPad with the keyboard most of the time because of the touch screen and being able to edit photo/video on a touch screen using the pencil while typing notes with the keyboard. I use the Mac to assist with file organization and if I need to type out a lengthy script. I honestly would not want to do without either one.

      Apple sells more iPads than they do MacBooks. The two reasons why sales have slowed is the lack of any new product in two years and the economic slowdown. Mac sales have also slowed despite recent flurries of new products. iPads are not MacBooks anyway. They have their own characteristics that make them attractive to tablet lovers. I use mine for 90% of my computing needs because they are so much more convenient to use than laptops, and only reluctantly go to my laptop on rare occurrences. iPads basically are computers and do everything you want them to do. MacBooks have their strengths and weaknesses and so do iPads. Neither can do everything the other can do, though there are significant overlaps. I always say to use the tool that works best for you. For me, the iPad is so much better than any MacBook.

    I have hated the display aspect ratio 16:9 since HD TV was invented. I like the closer to square 3:2 aspect ratio display that the iPads and Apple maintains, at least when I am computing. I will always be purchasing iPads and at least 4K monitors in the future. The tablets with 16:9 displays I won’t be purchasing., so most of the Android tablets with the low height 16:9 ratio sucks because I want to view pages tall monitor to read on the internet..

    Bring MacOS to iPad and sell it as a full bundle with the keyboard case + pencil. The final product would be similar to Microsoft's Surface pro, and that's a good thing.

    I fail to understand why Apple is so rigid about everything, and they never listen to user feedback. iPadOS and iPad is the worst combination ever. And, i feel being a trillion dollar company, they can put in some effort to understand that. Tim Cook lacks vision for how to make products great, all he cares about is the profit regardless of how useful a product, that expensive, is to the users.
    There needs to be someone new at Apple who is more enthusiastic about the process of creating products for the people. It’s a shame that just the new base 13” IPad Pro with the pencil and the keyboard coasts you $1700+, and being a logical person i can get a way more powerful laptop for that cost.

There’s no difference in performance cause it doesn’t matter if my m1 is 3x more powerful than the apps i use need or the m4 is 15x more powerful. And what’s the fetish with the thinness? Yes - for mere mortals, the standard $349 iPad is an exceptional device. If you want just a bit more, perhaps the larger screen, splurge a bit for the Air (which is ironically heavier than the Pro). I do agree for everything announced, the Air is probably the most compelling for most folks. Of course, if OLED is _really_ wanted, go Pro. I use my current M1 Pro to make money, so in addition to being a business expense, I can justify the higher price for my use case. I actually use the iPad Pro as a Pro. It is far more than a super awesome Netflix device. My wife has the 11 inch Air (previous gen) and loves it - I think we got it at Target for $499, but honestly, she could get by with just the 10.9" new iPad.

  • @jack_2612
    @jack_2612 4 месяца назад

    I'll wait for your full video about them, but my opinion about the Magic Keyboard and the Pencil are positive....... kinda. Let me explain. I think the upgrade to the keyboard is huge, mostly because of the glass or ceramic trackpad with pressure sensitivity; the old keyboard, which I used extensively and I still have attached to my M1 12.9, had an awful plastic trackpad that didn't really fit well with the price tag. The Pencil is amazing, it brings a few new features that are huge quality of life improvements and help speed up simple tasks you need to do quickly, like changing color in your pen while note taking in class. So, why don't I have an entirely positive opinion? Well.... lock-in is awful when it comes to technology, and obviously it's worse when it's EXPENSIVE technology. The lack of compatibility of both these new accessories with M1 and M2 hardware is insane to me. I can get behind the Pencil needing a different magnets array, but just sell another version for the older iPads with the old internal arrangement, it's not like they removed that one from their store or lowered its price anyway.... And I can't stand the new keyboard being exclusive to the new Pro. Not in a million years was making a thicker base to counterbalance the old iPads an issue at any point whatsoever. It's madness what they did this time around, and I'm a huge Apple customer so you can imagine how angry I am. I was waiting for the new Pencil with huge anticipation, but I was never ever going to buy the new iPad Pros not even if they came with a De Longhi Barista included in the box (so you might say they'd really make me coffe xd). As you said and have been saying for years now, the hardware was fine already back in 2018. It was more than fine, I might add. Even in laptops the M1 chipset is still top class and the M1 MB Pros are still to find a workload that can be exceeded by more than the smallest niche you could imagine (that being 3d designers and huge producers and stuff like that). So yeah, what's the point in buying any iPad Pro when the real problem lies within. When are we going to get a real upgrade to iPadOS? I don't want MacOS on iPads, but what people are driving me mad about is not complaining about having iOS on the iPads. On social media you get hit all the time with the "if you want MacOS on an iPad, just buy a MacBook". Well, I do have an M3 Pro MB Pro, but the iPad is still useless and is basically an upscaled iPhone with Pencil support. Back when they announced iPadOS to be a separate OS, a standalone, we were all excited and thrilled. Well, years later what did that get us? Nothing. Or... well.... you might say Stage Manager, but I'd laugh to your face since that thing is the single worst piece of software development to ever come out of the Apple HQs. It doesn't work on Macs, it surely doesn't even begin to function on iPads. So I don't know. I'll be waiting for the keynote next months just to hear them say "you can now set a separate wallpaper to your external monitor and have more than 4 windows open at the same time... exclusively on M4 iPad Pros!" and I guess they'll give us free arranging for the home screen of the iPhones. Not even pretending to be excited, but you know. Sorry for the long comment, but this even really triggered me.
    About the Air being the "students choice", sorry man, that's not true. The 13" in Italy starts from 980 euros, which means you are basically at an 11" Pro and let me tell you, the 120hz is a must if you are going to take notes for hours every day. I've been there, I've done that, you NEED 120hz or you'll f your retinas. It's not like typing on a laptop, it's really bad writing on a non-laminated 60hz lcd display.
    Also, to clarify, the reason for all this hatred towards them not improving the software for the iPad Pros is that an iPad Pro 13 with Keyboard and Pencil costs over 2k euros and I'd guess around 2k dollars. That's MacBook Pro territory guys, I don't know what you're thinking if you even begin to say "that's fine to me".

    What you are asking for has nothing to do with iPadOS. They have to do with features on apps. The OS is just fine and does everything it needs to do. When people say the iPad can’t take full advantage of the M1 (or M2 or M4), they can never explain how. There are no features of the M-series chip that cannot be utilized by every app. The OS puts no restrictions on that. It’s up to developers to take advantage of them, not the OS. The OS usually sits in the background taking up 2% of CPU or less. The usual response is they want Finder. Exactly how does Finder make apps more useful? Sorry, but dragging files around does not make anyone more productive. It’s also impossible to have in a sandboxed environment, a fundamental security feature of iPadOS. When you criticize Final Cut Pro, note that is not part of the OS. It is a work-in-progress app that only came out a year ago. Feel free to criticize Apple for being slow on FCP, but blaming iPadOS is nonsense.

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  4 месяца назад

      I will forgive you for not knowing I mentioned these points in my previous videos, no one can expect people to know everything right? Plus I am just a tiny channel here, but I have discussed this at length because I was curious myself.
      It turns out that it's only been since iPadOS 17 that developers could realistically take advantage of that power, but most didn't, even though technically this was possible since iPadOS 15. Very few apps like Procreate were clearly allowing the apps to go to that 12GB RAM limit for example.
      Your point on Finder carries some weight, but I'd translate that into better File Management. This DOES make a big difference and many people I know who use iPads hate the file management and end up paying extra for 3rd party apps that deliver better functionality. They wouldn't buy File Manager apps if they didn't think that would make them more productive.
      Not sure how you drew the FCP and iPadOS connection, I was referring to the announced new features that Apple mentioned in the event - maybe I wasn't clear but my main point is about iPadOS and how I'd love for the integration with MacOS to be more seamless.
      As for FCP... What I'd like as a Final Cut Pro user is for the iPadOS to be flexible and let me use the same project on both Mac and iPad. I don't mind having to transfer the project using SSD and Thunderbolt but right now this is only possible one-way, not both ways which makes FCP on iPad a gimmick for users who don't actually edit a lot, or only edit small projects.
      No point showing 'Pros' rigging their cameras and moving stuff to the iPad if that workflow doesn't involve a Mac. My first 5 seconds of this video which is not even that advanced would never be done on the iPad as there is no plugin support, even though this was a 'coming soon' feature. If Apple want to make the iPad Pro a serious Pro tool, then it needs to enable it to work with their own ecosystem of Pro tools, like the Mac.

      @@AlexGTech Thanks for the reply! One thing to start, not all of my comments were directed at you, but much at the comment section.
      All valid points on the apps, but most criticisms have nothing to do with the OS. Much of my comments are due to the disrespect so many RUclipsrs (not just the creators but the commenters) show towards iPadOS as if it were the impediment towards powerful applications. It is not. I haven’t watched all your videos so I don’t know everything you’ve mentioned, so if you have, great! The main comments I see in every iPad video are that iPadOS is somehow an OS with training wheels that limits what apps can do. The main point I am trying to make that such commentary is misdirected. Developers can make apps as powerful as the ones that run on MacBooks with no real limitations except the ones they impose themselves. The only requirement Apple asks for is that apps must work with touch, hardly an unreasonable requirement for a tablet. Sometimes apps take a long time to come out simply because it is hard to write a touch interface. Developers have spent four decades writing for a mouse and keyboard interface, but only a fraction of that time developing touch interfaces. I think this impatience is the reason so many RUclipsrs and commenters demand macOS on the iPad, even knowing the user interface would be horrible on a tablet.
      The irony is that most of the commenters do know you can have powerful apps and features on an iPad. They lamented Apple putting an M1 chip into an iPad as overkill that no one can take advantage of. Then when Apple and others create apps with M-series only features or OS features like dual-screen Stage Manager or virtual memory, they complain those features don’t work with older A-series chips. I would close by saying that complaints are misplaced. They should be directed more at app developers, including Apple’s apps, rather than towards the OS, itself. It simply gets tiring seeing all the “iPad is a toy” because of iPadOS comments that are all too common. There are so many people doing productive work while running powerful apps that I wonder why half the comment threads are full of this.

    You know how I feel about this 😅 personally the focused aspect of iPad OS is what I like about iPad. I’m just happy they didn’t introduce a notch to it :D. Also I don’t think people are hyping it up enough that full blown Zbrush is coming.
    Personally not keen on the thin aspect of it. I just think I’ve sacrificed cooling and battery life for something I don’t need.
    Also the Apple Pencil pro is disappointing. Would like a battery free experience and an eraser. The squeeze function looks like will be like the tap feature, always affected by accident. So I’m gonna disable it.
    I’ll wait a few months and see what the reviews say then. Most apps wouldn’t have implemented the new architecture on launch anyway. I remember the M1 took 6 months for some of the apps to take advantage of ram and horse power.

    But what’s the use of so much power when there are rarely high-performance games/ apps on the App Store?

      Thank you, I used 3 in the intro. The flying footage behind me is called mKBHD 'Additional Footage' by MotionVFX. The text is a basic one called mKinetic2 and I used mRotoAI to mask me, both also from MotionVFX 🥰 If you want to check them out: geni.us/MotionVFX_Alex

      I would say it really depends on what you work with when on the move. If you use lots of apps at the same time and require a bit more 'grunt' for things like photo editing, music production, etc. the MacBook Air is an awesome option. If you are just browsing, light creative work and maybe a bit of emails/Zoom calls, etc. then the iPad is the best option.

    Apple seems committed to selling crippled and overpriced iPads.

      I was so hopeful they would announce a couple of 'new' iPadOS features, even if they don't actually launch them till WWDC

      One 7th generation iPad Pro can cost as much as $7,039 USD! This includes all the bangs and whistles and is from the country that sells the priciest Apple tablets.
