    Area Roughing Toolpaths
Use this toolpath to machine standing bosses and cores, cavities and pockets, or material that other toolpaths left behind.
    OpenRest Material Strategy
To enable the Rest Material strategy, the Rest Material checkbox on the Stock page must be activated. Use this strategy to calculate the cutting passes on only the stock left over from one or more previous roughing operations, instead of the entire drive surfaces.
For each area of remaining stock, Mastercam calculates cuts using the Stay Inside machining strategy.
Most Finishing 3D HST use an option similar to the Rest Material checkbox, but is instead named Trim to Stock, and these settings calculate a stock model based on the dimensions of a roughing tool and only apply the toolpath to those areas. Unlike Area Roughing, they do not create multiple cuts in each area. Use them for applications where you want a different cutting strategy than Area Roughing passes, and the remaining stock is light enough to machined with a single cut.
    OpenFrom Outside Strategy
To enable this strategy, set the Containment boundary to From Outside in the Toolpath Type page. Use this strategy to machine cores which can approached from the outside. This minimizes the need for helical ramp moves or full-width cutting and is generated from a set of surface profiles that describe the shape of your surface at different Z heights.
With this strategy, Area Roughing passes can extend horizontally beyond your surface boundaries by a small distance; this ensures that all the material lying within the boundaries will be cleared.
The top set of profiles is not typically included in the toolpath, since Mastercam assumes that these lie on the very top of the block. To machine these profiles, set the Minimum depth on the Steep/Shallow page to a Z height above the top of your part.
    OpenStay Inside Strategy
This strategy is enabled by default. It can also be enabled by setting the Containment boundary in the Toolpath Type page to Stay Inside. Mastercam uses this strategy to rough out cavities, pockets, or other areas that can most efficiently machined with an inside to outside motion.
Stay Inside maximizes the amount of time the tool is in contact with your part, and can result in significantly fewer retract moves than a standard
