I spotted one in a Melbourne (Australian) street when I was there visiting back in 2011, fell in love instantly, still have the photos on my phone, just gorgeous, perfect blend of old skool and modern. Porsche well and truly hit the nail on the head.

Here in America, we didn't get this. We got the Speedster. That 997.2 special cars were really just exclusive options list drop. just everything in leather and bespoke colors and basic 3.8L engine with a power pack option. The Speedster I saw was $205k! when new. Just didn't understand why everyone just didn't buy the 997 GTS, same thing and half the price. Those were so much fun to drive.

Lovely looking thing, and you're right the 997 does drive really well. You mention though that people are 'paying' £300k for it, but are they? All the ones that i've been seeing on the market haven't been moving (My job used to involve watching the Porsche market). What are the chances of them being on Sale or Return at an over inflated price. I love the Sport Classic, as a package it's amazing. The powerkit on it's own was £10k if i remember rightly, the wheels (you can still buy from Porsche as a 19" for the 997 - or could last year) and the other touches make it unique. But, £300k for a £170k car - you're paying for the exclusivity.

Undeniably desirable.. but.. will probably only cover 1k miles in the next 5 years.. for fear of it loosing too much in value. I on the other hand have an "undesirable" 991.2 C2S, however I don't need to worry about how many miles I put on it and therefore I really get to enjoy it. These limited series cars don't make any sense to me and genuinely leave me cold, and I love 911s. They simply aren't worth that kind of money. GT3/RS owners are currently getting stung at the moment.. Great vid though!

@@seenthroughglass Thanks so much for the response! You should check out Dream Ride in Connecticut if you are available, and the Coronavirus is more contained in the Summer, it is one of the most insane car shows in the world!

It is the sum of the parts, all together they just add up. It is know as Dove Grey. The roof is much more obvious in the flesh and needed type approval, hence part of the price. Same as the 911R over the Touring. Sometimes it is just difficult to justify in pure monetary terms, it is just better.

This is my kind of car. Subtle enough that people don't gawk at it, but special enough that those in the know appreciate it. Fast enough to drive and have a blast but not so fast as to be too scared to drive it. I hope the prices come down to a more reasonable level one day...

I don't even need to watch the video. The 911 Sports Classic is the best looking 911 ever made. No question.

150 mile example recently sold at auction in US for 650K USD. Love this car, perhaps not a value but honestly I've seen lots of less desirable objects sell for more. Eye of the beholder, Porsche really got it right with this one though.

Sam, out of all the car/British you-tubers, I enjoy your videos the most. With that out of the way, can you please get your glasses straighten, I'm an optician and watching this video, all I saw was your glasses lopsided on your face. Last, your videos are getting better... Stay safe

Great video! I think it's closer to a GTS than an S though since it's also a wide body car.

*You could ask the same question, about all the '1 of 1' Zondas and Huayras.. When you build so many "one-offs", it begins to lose its specialness, the more of them you build..*

It's a Carrera S motor with the X51 Powerkit. It made the same amount of power as a 997.2 GTS I believe.
