Thanks for the dose of reality. I was thinking the same thing; that I'd like 10hp, but at 66 years old, 100 lbs would be way too much. I was also wondering about how much effort it would take to bring the boat back up the ramp. I think I'll reduce the size of the boat that's in my head. Thanks again for the realistic video.
As an owner of an older Honwave 3.8 I am glad that Honda have removed those trim tabs which means the transom wheels are much easier to pick up and put down. That was really my only gripe, these are superb boats and great fun.
The new Honwave has a set of grab handles that get in the way of getting the paddles, its frustrating!😄 and there's no clip for them to keep them in place when not in use🙄 still love it though 👍
Not to mention with the tabs you can get to plane even with 6hp 2 adults dog chain anchor life jackets ropes canopy 25 lt fuel towels food etc etc. I do not think the new t38 is capable for this.
Interesting to hear trim tabs been removed by honda, was there no benefits? I have boatworld 3.3 air v deck with those tabs and yes wheels are more bother to fit and move them up or down 🤨
Nice. My T32 has the trim tabs which makes the wheels more fiddley. I wouldnt do the wheels with the engine running incase I knocked it into gear though
So many things to remember and all in the correct order too, thanks for sharing your video. Could I ask what you had on in Black to keep your legs and feet dry whilst setting up the launch etc?
Thanks for the informative video and comments. I have just bought the same outfit from Bridger Marine in Exeter and looking forward to using it during the summer. Where are your favorite locations for launching and using your boat, I'm new to SIBs and always trailer launched larger boats before.
I bought my setup from Bridger Marine too! I've not used mine much since making this video which was in Newton Ferrers (not had much time since). I used it a bit more inland on the river Severn launching from Upton Marina. Hope to get some more time to use it soon. I had a river boat (Freeman 23) and a Caddy cruiser before but they cost a fortune to keep. My SIB has been in my garage pretty much since I videoed this and it's hardly cost me anything... lots of fun and low cost :D
@@siboffabeach3582 Thanks for the reply I'm off to Upton over Easter when I sort the problems starting my new Tohatsu 6hp outboard. It's a bit of a pig to start when you stop it by running it out of fuel prior to putting it in storage. Have a good summer.
Useful information thanks, wondering wot speed u can get with the 6hp, I have 3.3m boatworld sib with air V floor and manage only 15mph with vintage 9.9hp.motor?
I bet it won’t be long before you upgrade your engine, I’ve got the t32 and have a 5hp which is fine we me but will definitely upgrade to a 9.9hp ASAP.
I’d like a 9.9 but it’s too heavy to carry on my own. I’d have to go down the trailer route which sort of defeats the object. I used to have a T40 with 20hp a few years ago but sold it because I didn’t like all the hassle that comes with a trailer.
Keep the boat out of the sun when you don't use it. From an ex honwave owner who Will never buy own again! Seams came apart, tubes detiorated and went sticky. No amount of tube cleaner or uv seal would stop it.
If that's a ramp you have access to every time consider rigging up some tackle with purchase to a tree or something else sturdy (perhas even a small electrical winch) so you can keep the engine mounted and not ever have to carry it. I am fairly fit and strong but also have two bulging discs and carrying an OB is a shortcut to trouble. Sorry, just saw it was on a holiday but will leave the comment standing.
Really helpful vid as I’m about to order a T38 ie3 and a 20hp Tohatsu. What brand of transom wheels have you got fitted? Do you think that they’ll be enough clearance when they’re raised for full pivot of a 20hp engine? Cheers.
They are unbranded but it’s the same as these www.force4.co.uk/item/Force-4/Transom-Wheels-200kg/2896 I don’t know it you’d get enough clearance on a 20hp. I bought and had mine fitted at Bridger Marine in Exeter. You could try buying from and asking them as they sell loads of SIBs. They’d definitely know.
@@largejoe2195 Most 15 hp 4 strokes are the same weight as a 20 hp they are generally the same engine de rated. See if you can get a second hand 15 hp 2 stroke . These are liftable
I'm considering a Honwave T27-IE3 with a Mercury 6HP as a tender for a yacht. I'd be hoping for it to plane with two people. Do you think that's realistic? Second question... Do you find the V-Hull collects water at the bottom much at all? That's been proposed as an issue by a couple of vendors of air-deck models... Very useful video all round as well - congrats.
Thanks. My T38 planes with two people so long as the weight isn’t all to far back so I can’t see why a T27 wouldn’t. It can collect a bit but more from rain than anything. Is easy enough to bail out though or there is a drain plug in the transom.
Mark Howells I have a T38 and I m happy but.. If you want a tender for a YACHT (probably you will have it inflated always either at the front or at the back) and that is not good for pvc material always unde the sun. Look for hypalon. Maybe something like a 3d tender.
@Urban Drones UK a friend of mine had tried hydrofoils and the only one that worked well was permatrim.I guess it will work also with ozhydrofoil since it's the same design. But I didn't want to drill so I moved on with f15 efi (Which I remove air restrictor plate) and I put 5113-093-08 since a friend weighs 120 kg and now with 4 persons it can pull a skier too. But I still got bf6. I have only best memories from this machine. Easy to put on and the most important piece of cake to tilt. Now f15 is always mounted and t38 is always inflated on a trailer. And since it is on a trailer I put an aluminium roll bar a bimini and a foldable bow canopy (to be able to drop anchor) and dual fender holders each side of roll bar and mounted on to them the ring buoys to make room inside. And then I realise it was time for a rib :D . Hopefully next year..
In my opinion, all this trouble is worth it only if you plan to stay several days and have the boat moored meawhile. ( i.e. setup and pack up only once). For a single outing it is not worth the trouble. I owned a small sailboat and had the same issue. Now looking for a small inflatable like yours. And yes 10hp is 45 kg, while 6hp is 25 kg. The one is a highschool kid, the other is a 7 yo kid. Good for you that you did not buy the 10hp.
The Launch wheels are provided for the proper RAMP area to drop your boat effortlessly!!! Not to perform such an experiment like in this place. The Launch Wheels are very much useful for 90% of proper usage people.
You should install the engine first and than move the complete Ship in the water by holding it on the front. It is easier and not so dangerous (slippery).
Thanks for watching. I had a tide table but one of the reasons for buying a SIB instead of a hard boat is that it doesn't matter what the tide is doing. That is why it has wheels ;)

Why didn’t you pull the boat in backwards trolley the engine down the slip way and lift it straight from the trolley to the boat ?
Pretty good pierce for slipping, as soon as you turn the boat 180 degrees. No probs at all.

I would lift up the wheel rowing to deeper water. Wheels up before starting the engine.😅
