The Sweet Spot 911 is NOT a budget GT3, or a Turbo! When it comes to #Porsche, #GTS are three letters that immediately invoke a lot of emotions. If you’re a Turbo customer, somewhere in the back of your mind, you know the GTS is the sweeter purer driver's car. If you’re lucky enough to be a GT3 customer, you’re also aware of how the GTS can get so close, yet is so much more usable in everyday scenarios.
So it’s easy to see why Car reviews, social media and forums are awash with comments deeming it the sweet spot, the perfect #911, hence the perfect Porsche. High praise, and from our drive in the Rear Wheel Drive, lightweight package version in Italy, it’s well warranted.
The truth is though, it’s not as fast as a Turbo S, nor is it anywhere near as sharp and exhilarating as the incredible GT3. But what it is, is anything and everything that you want it to be! First body style, cabriolet, targa, coupe? No problem. AWD and RWD? Sure. Steels or CCBs? Yep. Two seat GT buckets and Lightweight pack? Or maybe custom form printed buckets? Any and all options are available to tailor the sharpest side of 911 to your liking. Last time we tried two ends of the spectrum: lightweight RWD coupe, and 4wd plush targa. Today, is the Goldilocks car: A sweetly spec’d 4wd Coupe! All weather use, still the most sporty body, CCBs, and a practical 2+2 seats.
Now that Grand Tourismo Sport or GTS name of course originated in the racing series “904” car, then 924 GTS, 928 and int the modern era: Cayenne GTS. We’ll have a quick look at each one too!
But as far as 911 goes, the first proper one was in 997 generation and as today was a mid point between Carrera and Turbo. 991 and 991.2 #GTS continued the same formula, and are now the loudest you’ll now find in any generation.
The new GTS Continues the tradition, but adds even more than the predecessors. It’s got 480 BHP, which is 30 more than the S and 23 more than the last GTS. A healthy 570NM and a staggering 0-60 of 3.3 (Carrera 4 GTS) which we will test later.
More significant changes come under the skin, with it stealing the chassis from our 992 Turbo: this means we get PASM as standard the 10 mm drop. But this GTS does things the others didn’t: Our rear springs also feature the helper springs as seen in the GT3. Spring rates are much stiffer 40 percent in front and 20 percent in the rear.
Sports chrono is standard with engine mounts, launch control etc of course. Overall it’s a more rigid car than the standard Carrera. The car also features a slightly unique exhaust system. And more crucial removal of sound deadening particularly around the engine to let more exhaust note in.
The lightweight package brings a number of changes: more sound deadening removed, the 918 bucket seats in full carbon, lightweight glass all around the car, a lightweight starter battery, unique positioning for the active rear spoiler, and hidden further aerodynamic changes under our front-end. The final result is a 25 kg drop and a more focused car. If you want it.
But if it’s not a budget Turbo or GT3, then is it really that much better than the brilliant base 911? And If so should I buy one? Today we explore:

Personally I think a more vibrant colour would suit the 911 much more, especially GTS. Albeit GT silver is a nice silver.. tough choice
@@mrv6159 aveturine green metallic is gorgeous
I like your analyze that the GTS is not a watered down version of the GT3 or even the Turbo but it is just the basic 911 dialed up all the way !!! It is indeed the sweet spot of ALL of the 911 !!! ❤️❤️❤️
It's not dialed up, it is the default one. Porsche designed GTS first and then tuned it down for S and regular variant.
@@timetraveler_0 ..Thank you for your insights !!!
That is far from a basic 911 dialed up. Suspension is different than all the other 911‘s.
@@lucasjames572 they way they explain it is that it is actually a turbo 911 with an s engine.
@@timetraveler_0 haha, where did you get that from?
I love how much effort you put in these videos. They're incredible to watch and I can spend a lot of my time getting lost in the immersion.
I’ve owned a 997 C4 GTS and loved it. I drove the rear wheel 991 GTS at Barber that had carbon ceramics and it was truly fantastic on track. I can well imagine the 992 GTS in any of its iterations to be an amazing choice for anyone looking for essential 911 driving today🏁
Hey mate. I’ve been waiting for this review with anticipation! Classy review as usual. I like the way you cover it. 😎
Loved the review can’t wait to get my GTS. I was thinking of the 4 wheel drive but was convinced to get the rear wheel drive which you’ve also confirmed is better.
I just had it for 2 days as a cabriolet and then ordered one immediately. Sound is amazing, much better than expected, even better than my Boxter GTS 4.0. And it is so fast...
This is amazing man, really appreciate the animations.
Thanks man! 🙏
Great! Happy to see another Remove Before Race Video! ... and the content is on the point again. THX!
Couldn't agree more 👏 👌 just got back from two days with the Carrera 4s we rented in Stuttgart and what a machine that already is ❤ I loved the handling on narrow and twisty mountain roads and also the sound was better than expected 👂👍
Without the black PPF. Cleaner lines imo.
I often treat your videos like podcasts, I listen to them while I go on with my daily work but wow that "maza aa gaya" really caught me off guard lmao. Anyways, great content as always!
I have the 992 GTS in silver and I think it’s stunning. Having owned a 991.2 c4s previously, the GTS is a step forward in my opinion and I’m glad I’ve gone with 2WD. Really good review, the most detailed I’ve seen. Great work!
Great video - amazing editing as always!
I like the fact, that you can spec the GTS more towards a Turbo or a GT3 Touring. Might as well be the sweet spot in the lineup 🙏🏼
exactly
This is the same color my older brother and I would use when we raced on Need for speed Hot Pursuit 2 on the playstation 2. I was a Porsche 911 turbo S and my brother was a dodge viper SRT. Good times.
Great Stuff ! been waiting for this :)
I like the silver spec you did for your GTS (though personally I prefer Dolomite Silver) and for everyday usability I would go with the steel brakes.
dolomite is cool, bluish silver from I Robot :)
Why not the tungsten brakes?
Always enjoy the history lessons, currently own a GTS 997.2 with 40k miles that I intend to keep.I am looking for a new daily to replace my 2018 M4 that almost killed me in the rain on Friday UK in March ...I owned 991.2T in Summer and sold it for more than I paid for it...with manual box it was fun...still to convinced by 992 drove the 992S back to back with my 991, interior was great but ...I don’t know
I spent 3days in a 2022 GT3 in a rally and loved it, this looks like a overall winner as a daily driver
Almost identical spec to mine which I collected Dec '21 so agree although I got the Porsche Decal down the side and removed the GTS badging from the side, the high gloss black finishes the whole package with matching wing mirrors! Enjoy
Great video and great selections with the silver etc - I’ve ordered a similar one! Love it
as always, a fantastic job. the best as usual.
This a great vid and you made a ton of great points but in my heart still love the 911 turbo S if I had the money and both cars in front of my still feel the pull of the Turbo S (plus had two 911 posters on my wall as a kids.......lol) but still great content tons of great info thank you sir.!!!!!!
I love your GT Silver choice. I have a GTS Targa in GT Silver on a boat to me as we speak. Fully loaded...including the carbon brakes (yellow). ETA is 4/8....can't wait.
I think your son was impressed with the yellow. I like GT Silver Metallic as well.. but a green or something would be cool too.
Good review, congratulations on your upcoming purchase as well. Can't wait to have my Carrara white metallic 992 gts in a month or two.
You picked the right color but, go for the red interior w/18 way seats. PERFECT!
Lol, i was toying with the configurator and when you showed your options, I had almost the same. Nice haha.
Sweet ride, love this, thank you
Great to see you back Raz
Love your GTS spec, exactly how I would go! Can't wait to see it.
I'd go red and black but ye
Great video as always Raz - as an Indian Brit living in the USA I really relate to how you present things and love the little history lessons. I will be replacing my 992 C2S (Guards Red) with a GTS 7MT (Lava Orange + Gloss Black Aerokit as red is too subtle). My order will take 9-12 months but I really want the 7MT which wasn't available in the first year of the 992 - have you considered the manual vs PDK?
The GT silver looks ace Raz, it's a colour you can go wrong with. But please, please get the black brake calipers. The red ones are hideous. I also made a last minute change from red interior stitching to the crayon and am so glad that I did, it looks infinitely classier in the flesh.
I went with the Aventurine Green Metallic on my 992 Carrera 4 GTS w black interior. Crazy gorgeous color, changes from green to grey and back again in different light. GTS w/ 4 wheel drive is amazing. Gotta get the 4 wheel steering. Cheers.
I would go WITH the BLACK PROTECTION. Just adds a bit of character to the car. Also think about 20-30 years from now when you're reviewing the vehicle and it has those black arches. It's just a design element that dates the car (not in a bad way.) It's always important when specing a car imo, to think about the future. Not necessarily about selling it, more about its looks and what makes the car timeless. Anyway, that's just me and a look into my brain regarding what to chose when making a car your own. 👍
you cant spec the black stone guards any more, they were removed from the configurator last year.
Thanks Raz for yet another great Porsche review. I'm one of those lucky few that managed to get an allocation on a 992 GTS last year so while I'm waiting the only thing I can do is to watch GTS reviews on RUclips. My spec is also in GT silver metallic with side skirts and side mirrors in body color. At first I went with aventurine green metallic but got second thoughts. I'm keeping the black Turbo rims and the GTS side logo decal. No sunroof or carbon fibre roof. Interior-wise full race-tex delete, so the black leather interior package (including the on the dashboard silver trim which is absolute porn), GT steering wheel, BOSE, Sports seats, PDK, that's it. The planned delivery is in end of July, but this might well be delayed if there are any supply chain disruption due to the Ukraine war.
I have build slot for Q4. I didnt go for sunroof either as the inevitable rattle would spoil it. The wiring loom is made in the Ukraine apparently. They are currently looking to get them made somewhere else but they need to go through the testing process for it and that could take some time (spoke to my dealer 2 days ago).
I’m deciding on whether to get light weight package. Wondering how much more interior noise u get with the light weight package. It’s one thing to have louder engine noise but road and wind noise are not so pleasant.
How about the carbon seats. Livable for occasional longer trips ?
My favourite 911 - would do anything to be a passenger or drive one!! Looks great in silver or red with black roof 👍
I have Dolomite silver coming. Love you review!
I love these vids. Raz I listen to your thoughts and take them into account. I’m working towards my three car garage with this being the final piece of my automotive jigsaw. Maybe not in yellow though. 🤣🤣
Just out of curiosity, what are the other 2 cars of ur 3 car garage?
@@inamhassan2694 I have a n MS-RT van, and an Audi A6 quattro a avant.
I think if you are considering doing a PPF around the back end of the car it is worth saving you money and not going with the rear arch protector. It would just need to be removed. If it isn't the case then I think it ads some depth to the overall aggression of the car and complements that black roof/carbon (Can't make out which it is from the video).
you cant get the black stone guard any more, was removed from the configurator last year and hasnt returned.
Great video thank you. Can you post your Porsche code for the GTS silver one please?
I love the 911 and getting the GTS is a great choice. However, every car on the road is black, white, silver or grey. I would recommend choosing a different color.
I love your channel ❤️❤️❤️
I chose a 2019 991.2 4 gts in GT Silver. Perfect Hen fit for me!!!
Live the specs on all of your cars, including your gts!
Thank you for this video 🥹🥹
HELP.... I'm in for my first Porsche ever and it has to be a 992. The problem is until now and with family etc, i've had sporty SUV's. But now that the nest it empty i want what i call my dream car. Caveat - i like my toys in cars and i like a bit of comfort too. occasional (very) track day or Nurburg will be on the cards too. Do i go for the gts or the 4s?
you cant get the black rear stone guards any more, the option was removed from the configurator last year sadly.
Do you think the 4 takes anything away from the sports car experience? Is it all time AWD or is it rear biased and then just kicks in the front wheels when needed? I'm helping my dad find a good second hand Carrera S or GTS and trying to decide if we should only look at RWD or if AWD is ok too.
Never forget: It is a tuned Basis-Carrera with only a 3.0 l motor - hence buy a Turbo or a Basis 4.
The engine sound is improved for sure.
visualmente nunca me he decidido por la carrocería coupe o cabrioles en la nueva generación 992, parece que no pero se ven distintas ya que en la versión cabriolet la trasera es más pronunciada y alta que en la versión coupe
Your GT black is just amazing
Graphs bro need to be larger. Can't see or read anything on them. Even if it is unimportant info, folks want to see. Just a short piece of advice that's all. You do some of the best editing in the bizz so I'm sure you're highly capable when it comes to resizing bits on your vlog. Otherwise, great work and a wonderful review as always. Love that you do your homework. It's just nice to hear all that stats and how the cars have evolved over the years!
Fantastic review & RWD is a great choice!
What are your / viewers’ thoughts on the aerokit vs standard 992 spoiler?
Take my opinion with a grain of salt but I’m a fan of standard. The aero kit really takes away from the natural beauty of the 911. Again just my opinion.
Great video. Great car!
In Porsche world it’s all about how much you spec them up and why the GTS and Carrera S can be optioned up the same interior and exterior performance options.
My money says a well speced Carrera 2 S is the best performance/livable modern 911. The front end is more responsive than the awd models. I have owned both and the the C2S is more alive feeling than the C4S that has a heavier front end feel.
The new 3.0L TT engine has so much low end torque yet the wide body has all the advantages and looks. You can spec a Carrera S to GTS spec and why both are “Carrera” models.
GT 4 RS why don’t ya? It’ll be available for media pretty soon right?
In my opinion there’s an argument that the 992 4 GTS is the best value. I believe there are plug and play chips that can likely bump the boost and offer a remap. I know there are definitely some that void the warranty as well. Then there’s also the thought that dealers really can’t void the warranty due to bolt on parts/chips. Hypothetically a 50-60 hp and 60 lb ft tq increase is all that’s needed to make it perfect.
I'd personally go for Gentian Blue to give it a bit more Stealth. It would definitely have to have those alloys in Silver though.
would you go for the aero kit?
Why did you go for the PDK vs the manual? Important no?
Right now for me the Taycan GTS sportTourism is the One, I would like to see a review of that here on RBR👌
Can the weissach package be added to this?
Are sure that is it worth it over the Carerra and Carerra S?
Porsche has been OBSSESSED with Macan, Cheyenne, Panorema the last few years. It's SO refreshing to see them give life back to the models that MADE them who they are.
Base Carrera is all you need, which is probably why they don’t offer it with a manual. They are probably waiting to introduce a Carrera T with available manual, and will charge near-Carrera S money for it. Sorry but paying $150k USD for a Carrera GTS is just stupid.
Just imagine if these videos were in 4k 😍
Looks awesome but makes me comfortable that my 992 Carrera really is the sweet spot of the range.
I am in Australia. I would definitely buy if the price of the 911 is similar to that in UK.
The 911 4 GTS is more than GBP 200K in Australia.
I wonder how many UK buyers would spend that much for the 911.
relax bro you pay higher at Indonesian and people paid for the price
How does it compare to the gt3 touring?
I'd like the 4GTS Coupe Ceramics with Aero package. It would look as close to the Turbo S without actually being the Turbo S lol
Black exterior & black leather interior with red stitching.
👌 😄
Hi mate, why did you sell the Turbo S?
Dream car. All you need from a 911.
GT silver metallic is gorgeous!
Can you get the lightweight package in the gts 4??😮
"MAZZA AA GYAI" - definition of 911 GTS driving experience
mm im thinking i may get one of these next year, look so good.
Raz you should consider getting a manual since your turbo S is a PDK.
GT silver perfect with the black stone guards some PPF on the front
I love this video
Refreshing to see a review that doesn’t try to make the GTS out to be a GT3-lite. I can understand second guessing a TT/S for a GTS since both are turbo charged; but no way anyone would compare a GTS to a NA 4.0 motorsport derived flat-six from Weissach. The GTS has a CARRERA turbo charged engine. I had a 992 Carrera S with sport design pack & it’s basically the same car. No amount of Porsche magic with piping more engine & exhaust noise into the cabin is going to make it compare to a GT car. I’m sorry. It’s exactly as stated; a base 911 turned-up to 11.
Well said
I have a GT3 Touring now. Would never go back to turbo charged cars. S or GTS 👎🏻
Those who know. Know.
I’m getting another 992 S, sold my 2019 as I got 9 points and had a small crash, ordering a new one next month, white again The GTS is nice but too much of a stretch sadly
Looks great mate but I can only just afford fuel these days, let alone a brand new Porsche 911.
without black protection ;) I like clean look
Definitely the 911 sweet spot in my opinion 😍😍😍
Mine too
Does the wing go up on this
so your kid is also a petrolhead like us.Thanks bro
I want one so badly😭
So surprised about the flexibility to make your gts. More of this, less of that, this range was pretty focused now its a blank canvas
Let’s talk about how hideous that black sticker is!! 🤢
Anyway, good to see you back! Great vid 👌🏽
Disagree with the very first sentence, IMO the 718 benefits the most in the GTS trim level with an NA flat 6!
This 911 we call the egg giving wool & milk car. If you take this one you get the best of all 911 specifications.
Excellent comment. I love how the C4-GTS retains the F1 style center-lock hubs and GT3 styling, but has more comfortable seating, softer suspension, plus all-season drivability.
@@mikeday62 Yeah. It's Weissach's masterpiece. If you don't know what Weissach is than google it and you will be impressed.
Is this turbo or naturally aspirated?
GT Silver or Dolomite Silver! Either way, win, win!
The silver is nice but , crayon man , crayon !!
GTS ❤🔥
Would you get manual?
Raz, you spec'd a GTS without a manual? 🤨
