Sadly out of most peoples budgets but I commend them for the presentation and the OS options look polished so nice of them to send you one for testing.
When I first booted the Orange Pi 5, I knew that it would make an awesome media center. It looks like these guys have done a very good job with this. Unfortunately, I think that they might have a hard time selling these. The people who understand the hardware in it will build their own or buy an NvidiaShield. The rest of the people want Apple or Fire TV like their friends. I hope that I'm wrong. I do like this. I'll probably make one eventually.
the price is ridiculous. 280dollar for this, meanwhile you can buy az n95 mini pc for 200 dollar

Comes under the Firefly brand who have shown some new options, such as a boot screen that allows the selection of multiple operating systems from different sources, which I think would add to it's appeal if it runs on this. The Station OS does look good and would be attractive for ease of use. I would love to know whether their Kodi can play 4K X265 10 bit videos with hardware acceleration without showing only a green screen, as is the case on other RK3588S board distros. They were sensible in using 12v power and not some non standard 5v/4a, although I would still like to have seen USB-C for power with support for PD bricks.
Before you buy a Chinese brand POS make sure there is SUPPORT for their PAST models, check if they have; downloadable driver updates, BIOS updates, yes for their older mini computers.
And check their forum, see if people w/ problems are being ignored by staff & the only problems being solved are by other owners of the device.
NOT FOR THIS MODEL, I'm talking about their PAST MODELS, it will let you know if it is worth your money, or just a huge waste, just another useless paperweight.
And if they have a 1-800 number to call for help, check if its been disconnect or dumps you to voicemail.
If I needed one of these mini PCs, only buy from Asus, or MSI, HP ...a brand name.

Thanks for all the rk3588 coverage. I'm super interested in AV1 decode it has. AV1 is on the verge of broad rollout on RUclips and you can already enable preference for that in your account settings. Could you do a video going through some AV1 samples, checking CPU usage, thermals, list of supported HW codecs in android, etc?

I was hoping you'd open it up. Is it just an Orange Pi inside? TBH can do this with any RK3588 board running Android TV 12 and for the price, using the "S" version restricts the NVME speed. The R6S/R6C case is quality & doesn't need a fan in my testing. That would a cheaper/better option to achieve the same result IMHO.
Yep too dear, and you can't specify no SSD when ordering. Why support 1Gb, not supply it, so I have to order one with a "disposable" SSD, and then insert the correct one. They need to price pitch these correctly for a similar price I can have a 64Gb mini PC and my choice of SSD or not.

11:20 It would be great if you could login to a Google/RUclips account settings and set it to "Always prefer AV1" and see how it runs with AV1 instead of VP9 codec as shown in your "stats for nerds". It is possible it runs AV1 even BETTER than VP9 since it would be dealing with up to half the bandwidth download requirements for the video, in theory.
The only TV video streaming I use or am interested in is streaming via the web-browser and using an air-mouse or wireless mouse for remote control. I think using apps to stream content in the future will be reduced to just folks with some kind of handicap.
2:15 Does the air mouse have a "mouse right click button"? I have noticed only some air mouses have this like the MX3 air-mouse. I a think right-click mouse button on air-mouses should be mandatory.

Good news regarding 8K resolution. Could you run some CLI tools / benchmarks on the GPU ? and can you check what GPU drivers are used by Chrome and other programs in the Linux distros? ('update-pciids', 'lspci', 'lshw', 'hardinfo', 'glxinfo', 'xrand', ..)
did you see the LTT video on some Android boxes having backdoors to the firmware?

How noisy is the fan? I was able to hear it in the background. So far I've been able to run all my RK3588 devices (Mekotronics, Radxa Rock 5B) passively cooled. Do you think it's possible to replace the fan?
I haven’t taken it apart. It’s likely it could be replaced. The fan didn’t activate with the inbuilt os for me. In a warm climate playing 8K video it’s likely it would activate. Hopefully when it comes on the speed is slower

plz dont use open fyde, its a paid os so very few ppl will actually pay for it, or at least put it in the thumbnail so whoever doesnt want to see it can skip it
Open Fyde is the free version without Android apps. That’s the one I used
