I’ve got the MG4 77kwh Essence (as it’s known in Aus), and while I’m largely very happy with it, the following would make it better for me:
    - Driver settings memory, at least from the last used, but ideally a driver profile option for 2 or more drivers. To include regen and one pedal driving modes, but also things like seat position.
    - Better navigation system, including an improved EV route planner. The current EV route planner with charging stops that was rolled out this year is pretty basic and needs greater flexibility for choosing charging stops. And the nav system itself should offer a choice of route options where available, like Waze and Google Maps do.
    - Ventilated seats. Really important here in Australia, more so than heated seats.
    - A better voice command/AI system. It’s pretty basic as is and somewhat frustrating to use.
    - OTA updates would also be a great addition.
    - Rear passenger air vents and aircon controls, as well as lighting.

Thank you Fina for all of your work. I have an MG4 essence (Australia), most of your viewers suggestions are quite valid but how much attention will MG take of these comments. My biggest wish list is OTA. This would save both MG and it's customers a lot of time and cost. Come on MG do it for your customers and turn the MG4 from a very good car to a great one. Oh yes, also remembering the selected settings the next time a driver starts up the vehicle would be great too.
    Happy new year.

Merry Christmas Fina to you and your family! Thanks for all your videos this year - so well done, Neutrally presented and well researched, and you, of course, so brilliant to watch!!
The two exposed screens (infotainment + data) are both dust collectors AND are not shielded from sun glare, and this is really, really disturbing design feature. MG need to either redesign the dash to bury the screens under cover OR to simply provide snap-on cowlings (leather or cardboard) to sit over the displays.
You get what you pay for, but with the MG4, I think too many forget what they pay for. For me, MG = Money Gift

Hi Mark! That's so nice to hear, I'm glad you enjoy my videos! I really enjoy making them so it's great to see them well received 🤗
I'm surprised to hear about those issues with the screens. I have a similar setup in my Megane e-tech and all has been fine for me. I wonder why that is... It seems that the screens are higher in the MG4, I guess that could potentially have an impact. Interesting, think I'll do a bit more research on this.
Thank you again for your lovely comment and Merry Christmas to you and yours! 😊🎄

V2L would only benefit a small section of people needing that. V2G will be useful connecting to battery / solar systems or virtual power plants. One Pedal Driving is objectively a far superior and easier way to drive making for relaxed driving, which should be the default and have the setting persist for user preference. It’s only partially OPD anyway as quicker stops still require brakes, but local driving is true OPD. OTA & software updates are a joke generally, dealers don’t even know what changes are part of an update, let alone offering to customers. This is a major issue which must be addressed as it makes an otherwise excellent car and brand look bad. Everyone should be taking the lead from Tesla and sort out the software as per BYD, Xpeng, Zeekr. Obvious things also like faster infotainment, lower redundant drive mode / upper charging panel, lighting. There are many software improvements that collectively when implemented will make it a great overall car, especially for the money!

    • @marksaustralia6464

V2G definitely seems like the way forward, especially as more people adopt renewable energy setups. I agree that One Pedal Driving should be an option that persists based on user preference, though again, I personally probably wouldn't use it, but there are plenty who would. And you’re of course spot on about OTA updates and software improvements; better execution in these areas would improve the MG4 experience significantly.

OTA updates is a must for me. Improvements to LKA and ACC, to be more like a chauffeur than an aggressive back seat driver. Vehicle to Load controlled by the chargepoint. Retention of last settings like drive mode ideally by user. Auto hold in reverse. Readily available map updates within 6 months, with an easy unattended update process. I think all of these are software related so are implementable on current models. I too would like better interior lighting and a/c but I don't see that as retrofittable.

  • @Nriku8
    @Nriku8 Месяц назад +2

My personal list, in order of priority:
For already sold vehicles (to solve via sw update)
    - LKA to be useful and not wanting to kill me (a recall should be mandatory).
    - Why lights are turning on if I activate the A/C remotely??
    - Reduce brightness of small screen.
    - Android Auto always switches on day mode. Only if you turn off the lights and turn of again them Android Auto switches to dark mode. Should do it automatically.
    - Be able to completely switch of the lights without having to "turn off" the whole car. I want to hear music or watch a video without the daytime lights on...
    - A/C correct balance. Currently 26C emits cold air and 27C hot air. What about a balance?
    For next restyling:
    - Wireless Android Auto / Carplay.
    - Wireless charging place with antislip rubber (currently is useless).
    - Rear passengers light.
    - Better quality trunk floor.
    - Central headrest "foldable" to the seat back, to improve rear visibility.
    - Rear armrest, with sky aperture to the trunk.
    - Frunk for the charging cables.
    - Better illumination, specially the combination of low and high beams.
    - Led rear indicators.
    - Interior led bulbs.
    - Better quality cameras.
    - Bigger (higher) central storage area.
    - Properly lubricatsd seatbelt fixing points (currently require some silicone lube every 10.000km...).

In general I love how easy it is to adjust regen levels via steering wheel paddles in a Hyundai for instance... if it's that easy to adjust, I don't care if the car remembers.
It allows the driver to do one-pedal in the city centre, while it's easy to change to free coasting when you enter the highway. No need to stop to adjust drive mode, ACC and regen level in the infotainment system for the next leg of your trip... and should you end up in a highway traffic jam you can adjust to that too without having to go through menus and settings (as a non-native English speaker, voice commands remain virtually useless, give me physical interfaces for stuff like this).

    • @BenjaminVestergaard
      @BenjaminVestergaard Месяц назад

OTA may be a complicated bunch, especially if the car doesn't have its own 4/5G connection.
But it should be possible to do via "sneaker net", implement something that would make it possible to download an update to a USB stick that would update everything if inserted into the USB port before turning the car on, or something like that.
Use cryptographic signatures to verify that it's a proper update from the factory etc.
Actually, not letting updates be done anywhere else than at authorised dealers is kind of a red flag to me... it usually means that the security around the software isn't exactly world class... if I'm right, we'll soon see mobile apps that can tell the car to wreck itself to win a drag race.

@@siasek the other annoying thing which can be mitigated is the emergency lane keep assist ELK. I understand this is a mandatory requirement for safety, but it’s invasive. Turning it off each drive should NOT require a confirmation every time! This is not the same as turning stability control off, which probably does need confirmation. Ideally all these setting would persist between drives but some are requirement by legislation. I will document a whole load of improvements which can be considered, voted & commented on by the MG4 community, giving MG4 HQ clear feedback on customer requirements.

I would like a navigation that can plan a route through chargers with the ability to set the battery level at the destination. Like the ABRP application or other EV manufacturers do. The current state is a mess.
I am not happy with the lack of backward compatibility. For example, my car from 2023 cannot have the one-pedal steering function like cars from 2024, and it is only about software.
Unfortunately, it is a SAIC concern that cooperates with VW in China and it is visible in the old architecture used.

The most critical issue is the preconditioning of the LFP battery. It is imperative to correct the set temperature to 20°C instead of the current 9°C. During long winter journeys, the battery temperature remains between 10°C and 13°C, making the conditioning ineffective. Consequently, upon arrival at a DC fast charging station, the maximum charging speed is capped at 45 kWh with only 10% SoC😡😡😡😤.
It is incomprehensible that this problem persists. It would be desirable for MG teams to test their vehicles themselves in order to understand the frustrations encountered by their customers. I have been waiting for a correction and resolution of this problem for two years now, without any concrete results.
MG, if you want to maintain your presence in Europe, it is crucial to listen to your customers' feedback.

First having been an owner of both Jaguar, Mercedes and BMW for me a new owner of the MG4 EV trophy long range I have noticed that at the price bracket the lack of 1/ Rear Interior Light 2/ Front Windscreen Rain Sensing Wipers 3/ Better Sound System.
This is what I thought would be on the Trophy Spec model but its not, I don’t think that MG likes to offer extra features at an extra cost like purchasing folding mirrors on the SE model why would you do that when you can pay the extra cost for the Trophy model. As for a glass sunroof or panoramic roof that might be too costly for MG and put it on the MG4 but who knows.
