  • www.eyesonthesky.com Five planets in the sky at once, but which ones are stars, and which ones are planets? Dave walks the viewer through where to look in the sky, and explains how to identify the stars and planets along the ecliptic. Mercury is the hardest one to see, and he shares some tricks to help you locate that elusive planet too. See what's up in the night sky every week with "Eyes on the Sky" videos, astronomy made easy.

    Thanks for your video I’m always looking up at the sky.. sometimes at first glance I can see stars that I normally wouldn’t see if my eye are fixated ion a particular location. Also I can see several Mars like star during the winter months

    Love it Dave. S&T posted an article about this recently but they didn't do as great a job that you did in calling out the "non planets".

    I know this video is a year old, but I used to have to get up early for school, before the sun came up. Last year I was fascinated to see Venus and Jupiter slowly move away from each other. I wish I could have seen this video, because I didn't know you could see other planets as well.

      Bobby T. Mars will be hugging the southwest horizon on the evening for the next 4 months or so. Saturn and Mercury will be visible in the morning sky in mid-January, and Saturn will be an evening object by May.

    so let me get this straight, if i want to see the planets i have to get up before sunrise? Is this the same for all seasons and no matter where you live? And it will always be south? I live in canada, alberta btw.

      It changes with the date. Note this video was from January of this year. Currently, most planets are in the evening sky. Download the free program Stellarium from stellarium.org, and you can see what planets are visible from your location on any given day / year.

    I was high as a kite while driving home from work, I pulled over as I feared I would harm someone with my driving, I intended to sleep off the high state so I decided to go for a walk, it was then I looked at the clear sky and was blown away as I could see millions and millions of stars, I stood staring at this which seemed for ever, I have not seen such beauty since although I have been high lol not driving though,

      @MubasshirAKhan 2 года назад

      @@denesgraphicdesigns8489 it is easy. The sun is the brightest star in sky. The moon is the second most luminous object. The third happens to be Venus and 4th happens to be Jupiter. If you look at the night sky regularly, you would be able to know them.
      Mars is a red planet that zooms over our heads from east to west. If you see a red planet above your head at night, you could assume that it is mars. How else will you identify them. Planets don't twinkle but stars do. Simple.

      It is only 1/2 of one degree on the sky. Shrink that down to a computer screen and it looks even smaller.
