    Mr. Fisher, I stumbled upon one of your videos and have to admit, it was the best golf instruction to date for me. Not insulting the other p RT os, it was just that YOUR'S, was fun to watch, informational, made so much more sense, and easy to understand. Using a line on the ball has totally transformed my putting. Today I used this on the driving range and it was incredible. Using the line tilted to the side as described allowed me to much more easlily swing along the correct path. Was able to hit it straight, little fads, and draws.

    I think the rule defines alignment aid as an outside agent or object, not a legal club or ball used while making a stroke. Your caddie can be an illegal alignment aid; that's why he can't stand behind you while you make a stroke; outside agent. Something you wear on your body might be illegal. But drawing on your ball, nothing outside about that. Draw all you want. Personally, I try to focus on the swing or stroke, I pretty much ignore the ball. Works great for my game.

    Do the Rules of Golf allow golfers to draw alignment aids - for example, a line or arrow - on the golf ball?
    Yes: Drawing a line around your golf ball, then using that line to help you line up your putt, is perfectly OK under the Rules of Golf.

    I have always marked my ball with a large “T” for several reasons. 1. My first initial, 2. Putting alignment, direction and square up the club face with the top of the “T”. 3. On the tee box, I use the “T” for spine and shoulder alignment, a slightly tilted T to the rear, makes sure I give a slight angle to my spine, and keep my shoulders aligned for a good turn.
    Thanks for the great video Matt!!!

    Amateurs need all the help they can get...and I really dont think a line on the ball is going to make anyone a professional golfer or even drop their handicap...they still have to pick the right line, hit it the right speed, hit the spot perfectly on the putter. If anything, it will give you a false sense of confidence in that you are somehow utilizing the rules to your advantage. wink wink Phil Michelson. All these 'ball spinners designed to find the perfect balance point are also a waste of hard earned money. Better to give the money to the homeless guy sleeping in a tent next to the fairway.

      Oh trust me, finally putting a line on my ball has transformed my putting. Sooo much easier to get the ball aligned from behind, whether its dead straight, left edge, whatever. You set your line then get over the ball and sync up the line on the putter with the line on the ball and now you know you are on the line you have chosen. Just putt the line. Absolute game changer for me.

  • @johnnursall408
    @johnnursall408 5 лет назад +8

    Starting back in the 1930s golfer would always tee the ball with the ball name facing the clubface -- you tried to hit the ball square on the "Titleist." That was because the name was stamped on the ball and players believed that the cover was slightly thinner there and would compress better. On the other hand, the cover was made of two pieces and fused together to make a round ball. Along the line where the cover was fused was the "seam." When you set your ball down you placed it so that the ball would roll on the seam -- and roll straighter. I got this from my grandfather, Grant Halstead who was a life member of the PGA -- (Played in the 1927 Open at Oakmont, etc.) Whether a ball really performed that way, I don't know. I only know that's was golfers believed going forward to the 1970s.
    Regards.

    • @joshhalasz2477
      @joshhalasz2477 5 лет назад +1

      I believe your grandfather is correct, however the difference is so minuscule the average player would get more out of just practicing more often.

  • @jackforbesjr7052

    Ya they are and so are you because no golf ball is perfectly balanced. So unless you are floating the Ball to find it's true zero point you'll always be relying on some luck with your skill vs your skill and the actual weight of the Ball to work together 😉

    The plastic ball marking stencils give you the opportunity to add a perfectly perpendicular second line. You use one line to aim your putt, you use the second perpendicular line to align your putter face parallel to. Parallel lines are easier for your eye to confirm than the perpendicular putter face to line.

      Ya even big breakers, I line it up straight at the cup. Then I still pick my spot further out where I want the ball to actually go. So I rarely get that end over end roll with the line. But it’s MUCH easier to hit it where you want knowing the line is already pointed at the cup.

  • @robertnicholasrobinson9407

    Hi.. when I spin my ball at 2000rpm with my machine the line that I put on the ball bears no relation to the line placed on the ball by the manufacturer. What’s more , from a sleeve of three balls not one of my lines are identical. This suggests to me that all balls are not perfectly balanced in manufacture.
    I believe that when I put my line on with the spinner the spin speed gives me the exact equator on the ball. Consequently the line I put on is exactly the equator and both sides of the ball are equally balanced. The ball when putted rolls over end over end perfectly. It’s probably all in my mind but it works for me!

The three lines I get on each ball I have to say are never identical but close enough for me to choose to put my line as close to a consensus of the three test lines as possible if that makes sense! You are probably right; however, before golfers began drawing lines on their balls as alignment aids, Davy golfers used the manufacturers logo as an alignment tool. Consequently, golfers drew over the logo and extended it a little on both sides (as you did). So, it seems to me that the difference between using the logo or the line is the same thing as an alignment aid. Additionally, some golfers use abnormalities in the color of the green as alignment aids. So, my argument is, whether the golfer uses external alignment aids or integrated alignment aids, it’s all the same thing and doesn’t make too much of a difference. Additionally, professional golfers are allowed to use their caddy to verify and adjust their aim. And, they also have detailed diagrams of the contours of each green to help them visualize the slope and undulations of the green. How nice would that be for the average golfer? So, given all of the other things that are out there to assist the golfer in making an optimized shot/putt, why criticize a drawn-on line. And why stop at the ball? What about the alignment aids on the putter? How do you feel about Odyssey’s 2-ball putter that was/is designed as a visual aid to square the putter at impact. Please let me keep my drawn-on line, it gives me confidence what I step up to putt. Nice instructional video, by the way. Ciao

    I use my cigar, but also you have lines on the putters now...What are your thoughts on that. BTW I am really becoming a fan. Been watching your vids everyday for the past 2 weeks. Keep it coming.

    At around 3:20 you mentioned that improper focus upon the ball can encourage a coming over the top when striking the ball. This is the second viewing of your video but the first time that I’m truly hearing what you are saying. The other day I realized that with my driver I was not hitting to the sweet spot of the driver. I looked down at the little indicator on top of my TaylorMade M1 and when I focused upon how it truly lined up to the sweet spot I saw that I was hitting more towards the heel by maybe 3/8” inch. I think people believe that the sweet spot on today’s golf club is much larger. But I think the sweet spot is still the size of a dime. Only when we start hitting the true sweet spot can we feel truly balanced in the contact position.

    The biggest mistake is drawing a line on the ball.

    Makes complete sense as human vision can be a little deceptive whether you are left or right eye dominant seeing the apparent middle of the ball as opposed to the actual middle. You also have center surround and surround center vision. When over focusing on the ball you are using center surround which increases your peripheral vision but you lose perspective of what's around the ball. Try focusing on what's around the ball to bring the ball into perspective of your path.

    Great video and tip! I use line on my ball and had been using it for setup the wrong way as you say it! However I put the line on the ball to mark the sweet spot using a CheckGoPro. My understanding was you line it up when hitting a driver or iron of the tee to maximize the distance and as such alignment on tee needs to be straight! Can you let me know what are your thoughts on this and if I need to align it straight or align it as you have shown? I will definitely try both methods at the course if I find it empty!! Thanks

      this video uses a line anywhere on the ball to help align with aiming - just like an alignment stick and no more. The "CheckGo" puts the line in an exact place on the ball - around the circumference of any mis balance centre in the ball. your Q of how to align this balance centre with the aiming is not even considered.

    I pick one dimple and focus on it through my swing. On a good day I can do this. On a bad day I lose that focus. Your eyes have good days and bad days. After playing for many years your swing is consistent. Don't mess with it. It comes down to your vision that day. Your eyes will not do what they did yesterday. Making major adjustments in your swing is a mistake. Maybe a minor adjustment in alignment is all you need that day.
    I thank God for giving us the land to play this wonderful game. I love golf. It's so damn fun!!
    You started playing because it was so damn fun. It's supposed to be fun. Never forget that.

    I believe I heard you mention that putting a line on your ball should be illegal, I agree. How many times does one see pro's playing in a tournament on the green lifting their ball and using a line on the ball to putt? It's like getting an alignment stick and using that! An aid. Aids are not legal. So how come.
    It's not atall acurate as the line can be seen from many different angles and mislead you!
    I'm am not saying the method I learnt is better for everyone but, it is simple and for me very effective. Here goes, tee up, stand say two yards or so behind the ball, line yourself up with ball and target. On the ground in front of the ball pick a noticeable spot say, a foot in front of the ball. Address the ball with your club using the mark on the ground to aim the ball at. Take your shot! I have found that no matter where one is on the course there will always be a little something to aim at. Driving from the tee, off fairway or on the green. A simple method but, for myself ery effective.
    Try it, it doesn't cost anything and you do not need a pen or get funny looks from people whilst you are writing on a ball!

    Just another thing to think about instead of just getting yourself inline and hitting the ball, the more I watch this sort of drill or practice the more my head gets filled with rubbish, but thanks anyway.

    I’m going to be honest I have never lined the lines/symbols specifically on the ball and have played great. I don’t think it matters it’s all about psychology but I will try it and if it works for you great!

    You use the line to adjust your stance and square up your shoulders to where you want your shot to go, adjusting your swing for the fade or draw. What he's doing makes no sense. You can see the line when it's on the top, and at address , this is showing you the direction for your swing and alinement for your feet and shoulders, Then you make adjustments for the shot you want to make, fade or draw.
