Soooo loved the element of perseverance in this book. I think that’s why it resonated so much for me.

Thanks for this review in follow-up to your fantastic reading vlog! I look forward to reading this book.
Had no idea this was written by someone from Sierra Leone, I might pick it up now. Thanks for the review.
Reading this as we speak. Much different than anything I've ever read before. I really like it so far. 😊
Great review! I will definitely be reading this!
The book cover is stunning. I have this book on my Around the World challenge list. I'm trying to read books from different countries across the world. If you're interested to read more from Sierra Leone - are you familiar with the author Aminatta Forna? She's a Scottish born writer with Sierra Leonean heritage. Some her fiction books are specifically about Sierra Leone and draw on her family background.
I really need to pick up this book soon
congrats on 100 subscribers!!
what a glowing review! this book is on my march tbr and i can’t wait to get to it. i love reading about patriarchal systems crumbling under badass women so bring it on! awesome review😁
Lovely review!!
Just finished the book today. I agree that it answered all the questions and it did so in a satisfying way. It didn't demonise certain women as I have seen so many "feminist" stories do, in fact, that is a large part of the story. I also think it was well done in that Deka had reason to distrust men as a whole but they were not reviled wholesale. I don't remember if there was another male character apart from the love interest who was depicted in a positive light but even if he was it didn't feel like an exception.
I think some of the side characters could have been more fleshed out or maybe just be more prominent because the blood sisters deserved a little more "screen time" IMO.
But I enjoyed the book very much. Thank you for this review! Now I want to learn more about the references to Sierra Leone culture. ☺
