I wouldn’t harvest them all at the same time. I would plant the kind where I could take a few leaves off of each plant and keep them growing for a long time, just taking a few leaves. Getting a whole salad each day… This is an amazing idea. A wonderful use of a narrow space! Very creative!
For growing herbs and salad greens in my kitchen garden, I do my plantings--both indoor or outdoor-- in batches ...10 days apart. This way, I am neither overwhelmed by the harvest nor do I run short of greens.
This is so simple it’s brilliant! Best inexpensive Vertical Tower Garden I’ve seen. Reusing plastic bottles to easily and efficiently feed yourself! I love it. So many ways to modify to suit different needs. I’ll add a pump at the bottom, pipe it to the top, and use clay balls as media for a hydroponic setup. Thanks again.
@TreeGrower It doesn’t really matter if it’s BPA free. What they replaced BPA with in any plastic you’ll come across is still structurally the same, even in the same chemical family. They’re all plasticizers so their job is to keep plastic from being brittle and breaking. They’re all still endocrine disrupters. So you’d have to go back to 19th century living in a very remote area to avoid that..good luck. Also big thank you to the corrupt FDA for approving it all. So the idea in the video is ingenious… re-use waste bottles to efficiently grow food vertically in confined space with extremely low cost and minimal skill to build. So effective and accessible it’s ingenious.
@@thinkfloyd2594 Sorry. The damage is done. Ever touch plastic? Ever eat any food that wasn’t grown in your own yard? How about a thermally printed receipt (since the mid 1990’s)? Unless you were born and raised in the 19th century, you’ve been well exposed to endocrine disrupters (and worse) your whole life. This is reusing waste, growing your own food, inexpensive, simple, low skill to build and teaches food independence. It’ll save lives, and improve health.

The great thing about this kind of lettuce is you can a few leaves at a time and it keeps growing. I've never tried this, but yes please!! Everything is so expensive, even lettuce.
@@halibaitor I have heard that many of those plastic bottles will only be safe for a few uses. After a longer time, the stuff in the plastic deteriorates and you are left with a slightly unsafe container. People used to reuse the bottles as water bottles by refilling them but safer to buy an actual bottle meant for reuse. I'd have to plant lettuce another way since I don't buy water or soda bottles that I could do this project. Lettuce prices have gone crazy; one head of lettuce in our only local store now costs more than I could buy a nice roast in pre-pandemic time! Will be using my indoor plant lights for lettuce this winter! Also going to grow assorted sprouts.
I always enjoyed the gourmet variety. You could pick a leaf and some to make up your salad. Could you not place some parsley and radishes. I'd stand a large pot with a variety of cherry tomatoes near by. Some shade might be needed for the lettuce depending
Nice music the first tune was old laing sine played at the new year very sentimental for us Scottish people oh and lovely lettuce idea too just take a bit at a time for your salad what is it you say in America good job x
Nice system of planting, may I know the variety lettuce, how many days in seed box before transplanting And how many.days before harvesting.thanks for sharing.
you should put fertilizer into your first tank of water for each stack and for each subsequent crop. while your plants have a decent growth rate, you'll find that fertilized plants will be hardier.
I was thinking you could use the same heating tool on each bottle and add two small holes to feed zip ties through and zip tie it to your fence - here in Missouri, the winds would destroy this in no time if there isn’t something holding it down.
You can cut one or two leaves off at a time from each plant so that all of the plants continue growing for a long time or up until they want to go to seed. With a few more of those contraptions you could have yourself a small to medium sized salad every day, along with the chives, tomatoes, Swiss chard, etc., that you can grow in 3 gallon buckets on the side.
Im thinking all a 5 gallon bucket. Put a water source at the top and add herbs. It will providd stability to the letu e bottles. Im excited starting mine indoor though. The skys they spray 😞
I've heard you can harvest lettuce & it will re-grow. They call it "Cut & Come Again". You can do this twice (for a total of 3 harvests), but after that, the lettuce will be too bitter. (I think it gets a stronger flavor each time.) As another commenter said, another method is to just pick off the lower, older leaves from each plant & leave the younger leaves to harvest later.
I wouldn’t harvest them all at the same time. I would plant the kind where I could take a few leaves off of each plant and keep them growing for a long time, just taking a few leaves. Getting a whole salad each day… This is an amazing idea. A wonderful use of a narrow space! Very creative!
I use the bottles as a mini greenhouse when I first plant out, but this is a great idea for saving space in smaller gardens. 👍
I'm going to try this next spring, what a space saver!
Lovely idea - I can see these stands filled with strawberry plants or flowers too. I would fasten to the wall/fence in case of heavy winds/rain.

Я представляю, какая будет красота, если таким способом высадить петунии
Для петунии в такой бутылке катастрофически мало места . Я тоже их обожаю, но они в таких условиях загнутся

You make one big mistake don.t cut the whole plant only the leaves that you need it will produce leaves all summer long
Agreed. I cringed when he cut all of them at once. Succession planting would also work well to extend the season.

Love the simple concept. Have you try to use bamboo instead of plastic? It will be healthier than eating greens grown in plastic.
How do you use the bamboo?
The bottles are food grade plastic, so there's no problem.

Duct tape and baling wire.
