    I would be very reluctant to buy these products, as he seems to move on to something else every 7-10 years and then you’re left with products that you can’t get service on because they went out of business. When you buy Accuphase or McIntosh , Luxman, Technics, Linn etc etc you have a high probability they will still be around. Especially at the prices these products are selling for; quite frankly I’m surprised you decided to sell this line of products. Love you reviews.👍🏻😊

      My previous companies accomplished certain things, doing the best we could with the technology available. But DH has developed the first fundamentally new audio technology since the 1970’s. I invite you to find out what DH has to offer, and then decide what you think.

    Maria is designed to work with source units that have the equivalent of input and volume, like Mac, Windows pc, servers, etc. With C Wave, Qobuz sounds like pure analog tape. This changes everything. After listening, you might modify your perspective.
    The volume control of Maria is the most transparent, reliable and flexible, but not remotely controllable. I don’t want to compromise it when you don’t need to.

  • @marklevinson-yg8zh

    You many good points. Different products meet different needs and tastes.
    I am a musician and my model is musical instruments. Serious musicians search for the instrument that enables them to best express their musical vision.
    Audio systems do not reproduce music, they reproduce recordings of music. My goal with DH is to achieve a new level of faithfulness, to reproduce the recording so the musicians who made the music feel that this is what they intended.
    That’s why Al DiMeola is giving his support to DH. It’s not about audio equipment, it’s about bringing his music to life and sharing it with the world. Al asked me to master his new album with C Wave because he loves pure analog audio, was never ok with digital.
    Just as there are different styles and genres of music, there are different styles and genres of audio equipment. My inspiration has always been the music of artists like Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Paul Bley, Maria Callas, and others who took music to another place, creating emotion and touching hearts around the world. I founded DH to reproduce their recordings so we can feel their music - and any music the listener wants - with the maximum of emotion, and through new technology to put this within reach of more people.

My wife and I heard a number of his products and I am so pleased that Adrian has brought them into Canada. We met Mark again in Munich at the high-end show the following week and it was great to see him there with people he has known for decades. As someone who owns a DH Maria amp and Chiara speakers, I am blown away by the quality of the products and the personal support from Mark. Like most of you, I have spent years pursuing sonic perfection, a new cable, upgrading to a linear power supply, yearning for the new streamer, etc. It never stops and I lost sight of my objective of enjoying the music. DH represents a paradigm shift: one box with a built-in pre-amp, amp, and a DAC paired with tuned speakers. I made the transition 2 months ago, and I haven't looked back. I would have to spend at least double to get this level of sound quality and performance. While the quest for sonic perfection is never truly over, the DH system has shifted my focus from acquiring more to appreciating more. I now find myself spending hours listening to tracks that unveiled layers in the music I never knew existed and in pursuit of new recordings. It's not just about listening to music; it's about experiencing it in its purest form.

      I spoke with Mr. Levinson as well. He was very helpful. I cannot afford the Chiara, but am looking at the Eva vs Ambers. Did you have a chance to compare the Maria with the Ambers? Would that be a significant upgrade from the Evas? Mr. Levinson had interesting things to say about both.

  • @marklevinson-yg8zh
    @marklevinson-yg8zh 7 месяцев назад +5

    I agree with you! Tone controls and balance control on the front panel (like my LNP-2 preamplifier from 1974) are very useful.
    No one product is right for everyone. DH Master Class does two things that make a big difference to many music lovers: first, upgrade digital audio to the sound and emotion of pure analog master tapes; and second, adjust the tonal balance so each recording sounds natural, as close to “right” as possible. You can render and save MC versions so you only do the process once per album and save it with a single click. MC is for non-technical music lovers who want the most natural sound from every recording. You can build a library of MC music where every track sounds amazing.
    When possible, we will make a Gen2 MC with new features including balance control. Owners of MC will get Gen2 for free.
    A used Mac for $300 works fine (OS up to Big Sur). MC tracks can be loaded on any device that plays audio.

The Eva’s size and its 35hz low frequency response along with 8 ohm impedance seems to be pretty rare combination as far as I recall. Different types of speaker drivers have different advantages and disadvantages. Each DH speaker model is optimized to offer excellent performance in its size and price range. Like musical instruments, artists choose the one that best meets their needs. All DH speakers offer similar natural sound, smooth , extended frequency response, wide dynamic range, and other important specifications. If you see the catalogue of a small boutique maker of brass instruments, for example, you will see a number of models with different advantages, all excellent instruments.

    I can understand the decision to use Perspex instead of metal for the chassis as it allows for faster production and less investment on tooling... But at these price points I would expect a chassis that is CNC milled from billet aluminum. Even if there are sonic reasons not to use metal, I would still prefer it for durability reasons. Hoping that Adrian will bring some DH gear to 2024's Audio Fest so we can all give it a listen.

    Due to Mark L, Audioprism amplifiers, the designers of very good tube amplifiers and accessories were not able to separate back per agreement except to pay the rent for the many well known accessories stuck in warehouses when Red Rose went
    out of business.. And the amp designer went to work for Apple, rather than start business over again. Partner Brian later
    distributed one of the first grounding products called Audio Control. Much less in cost than the current rage of grounding boxes.

    • @marklevinson-yg8zh
      @marklevinson-yg8zh 7 месяцев назад +3

      Red Rose Music was a retail store based concept like an Apple Store that, if all went well, could be franchised - a store for music lovers who wanted quality and simplicity. We did $4 million the first year. When the terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center, NY was dead for over a year. Many NY businesses disappeared. We continued off street until 2006. In addition to the terrorists, RRM was badly damaged by the high failure rate of the tube amps developed by Victor Tiscareno and his team. The big reference model had a failure rate over 100% meaning multiple failures per amplifier sold. In spite of being paid high salaries, the engineers in Seattle refused to improve the products or provide schematics for service. This was one of the most difficult times in my audio career, and I apologize to those customers and dealers who were hurt. I’ve tried to help those who suffered from the problems of RRM, and still do today. A good company puts reliability and customer satisfaction first.

    I find the comments amusing at times. I see a lot of criticism but it’s not really criticism. It’s bitching for the sake of bitching. If you’ve heard the unit you have a qualified comment, whether positive or negative. However beyond that, domino about the price shows disrespect to two people who actually do things. Mark is not only a giant but a pioneer in this industry and decades later continues to contribute. We have another who is a legendary retailer who invests his own money and takes risks to bring us the very best. Comments about parts and price are comical. Especially price. You can listen to music off of your phone all the way to a multi million dollar system. There are a few high end shops bringing you the best. If you don’t want Ferrari go to Kia. You still get a car but don’t be upset that Ferrari is not building a $20000 car because that’s what you want.

We welcome all questions and are here to help! We are working closely with Adrian and sharing information, training and education. Amber can be used with any good amplifier, but the full benefit comes out when you drive it with Maria with the Amber tuning.

      Good questions! When you hear what DH has to offer, I think you will understand that this level of music reproduction is something dramatically new and not available elsewhere. Like musical instruments, they have to be evaluated by listening. Like the finest instruments, DH is made by hand one by one (in Venice, Italy) a few km away from where Domenico Montagnana made the cello that is now played by YoYo Ma. We carefully tune our products and help each customer individually if needed, collaborating with a small group of audio specialists like Audio Excellence. There are only a few at Adrian’s level. Canadians are fortunate to have him!
      I have no intention of building DH into a big company. We make only one amplifier, Maria, in 2 channel and 4 channel version (same chassis). It’s the best I know how to do. Maria is friendly and works with all good speakers and with 5 models of DH speakers that meet different needs. If you audition DH at Audio Excellence, please tell me about your experience. The DH web site is under reconstruction and updates are needed. The Maria 50 was upgraded and renamed the Maria 350. Rated power is 350W @ 8 ohms/ 500W but clipping is over 400W @ 8 ohms and 700W @ 4 ohms. THD went from .00x to .000x. The new power supply is fully regulated. Customers who bought the 50 before the upgrade can have the upgrade for the difference in price. Ask any questions. Thanks for your interest in DH!

      Also the Maria 800 has the same specs as the 350 but 4 channels with active crossovers and time alignment enabled. A complete fully programmable bi-amplification solution in a single elegant chassis.

      My first thought re remote volume was similar. In a phone call with Mark, he indicated that the Maria was optimized for performance and the implication was that this is the best volume control system he’s ever come across. The work around is using a streamer that has volume control but of course that will not work with Analog sources. Ultimately designers realize that their products are not for everyone

I invite you to compare Maria with the most expensive separate components and then let me know what you think of the value proposition. In fact, Maria has game changing advantages that are not available at any price elsewhere. When you learn more and listen for yourself, you might consider Maria an excellent value.

    • @amb3cog
      @amb3cog 7 месяцев назад +3

      I think these are actually some of the best deals in high end audio ATM. You’ve got to remember that high end is partly just jewelry. It’s about more than just the sound.
      They’re luxury items. Like a Mercedes S Class which although priced super high, will never get the hate that high end audio gear does. Not sure why that is, but it is.
      Anyway, just like one does not need to spend a fortune to get a great car (Toyota Camry). One need not spend a fortune to get great sound. But you’re not getting the same thing still.
      No one is going to drool over the Camry, but they will the S Class. And yes it has more power, and more features. But it does still accomplish the same thing as the Camry in the end.
      So don’t buy this stuff if you don’t want to. Buy some Schiit Audio gear instead. It’s amazing sound for the money. Which isn’t a lot at all. That’s fine. However I see zero need to criticize the S Class owner, nor the owner of a Dartzeel system.
      Nor for that matter the companies that build them. What are they doing wrong? They’re building products that people want. If you can’t afford them, or don’t want to spend that much. Then don’t. That’s fine.
      But whether you do, or not. Those products will still be there, because there’s people that want to buy them. And contrary to what most believe. Their prices are not that far gone in reality.
      When you stop to consider what they spend to develop these products. The manufacturing costs, the shipping, the rent, the marketing, the utilities, the labor, warranty work, having parts on hand for warranty work, dealing with returns, mistakes, consumables, shrinkage/loss, transportation costs, loan fees, credit card fees, distribution fees, storage fees, dealer fees, etc.
      I seriously doubt you, or anyone else could beat there prices by much, and still not go bankrupt. Prices are what they are. That’s market driven, and not manufacturer driven. So why on earth bash them?
      When the same price increases have hit every other industry as well. When every other luxury good today seems overpriced to most people also. It’s not going to change anything at all.
      But it will get you upset, it we’ll get others upset. It will cause mad drama, and it well infuriate others, who like yourself, won’t accept reality for what it is. And it’s likely to hurt sales a bit too.
      All of which is counterproductive, unhelpful, and downright nasty really in an insidious way.
      I was always taught to keep my mouth shut, unless I had something good to say. Can’t honestly say I’ve followed that rule religiously my whole life, but it’s very good advice nonetheless. Just something to think about. Good day to all. ✌️

    Rich people's toys must be nice to be rich most people I know could never afford this. It would be nice if for once a company would say screw this we are going to make a great system that average people could afford 6 grand for everything that would compete with the high-end stuff I really think it could be done. If I were in a position to do it I would in limited numbers just give the finger to the overprivileged and give the working man a nod of respect for once and give him his due. Like my father who worked his fingers to the bone putting a roof over my head and food on my plate, he was a kind and good man a man I respect so much more now that I am old and understand what he went through. I respect him so much more then a rich and pampered person who comes from a rich family and had everything easy. The working man in my opinion deserves the nicest things that's why i bought my dad a S class and he looked so classy driving it but preferred his beat up old pick up he said it was a much more honest vehicle and it never let him down. The S class by the way was used and relatively cheap i still have it and it was one made when they still made them well lol. Miss you dad i was always so proud of you and i consider myself lucky to have had you for my father you taught me class has nothing to do with wealth as you had more of it than anyone i have every meet rich or poor. You also taught me that personal wealth means nothing but health and family are the kind of riches that really matter and how not to judge others based on how wealthy or poor they are some of the most intelligent people i have meet have been very poor and some of the most generous and kind people were also poor. Society pushes rich people are better narrative even in movies and TV you never see a poor or middle class family like you did in the 60s and 70s Shows like All in the Family of Good times or Sanford and son just to name a few now everyone has a cabin and drives a BMW sad really.

      The late 1980's into the 90's was the best time i think to purchase and own high-end built audio at a fairly affordable cost! i still use my low to mid. priced level audio gear (Onkyo M504 power amp, and Adcom preamp driving my Paradigm Reference Studio/100 speakers) i got in the 1990's, now looking at equipment that is equivalent spec wise i am gonna spend crazy more money (5-10K+) for newer build mid- level grade audio, unless i go the used market route, but then you worry about getting flawed audio gear someone wants to just get rid of... i do like that Mcintosh does have some separates at least for power amps, and integrated amps at priced not too high compared to other brands...

      There was an era when high end audio was honestly priced
      An example of a massive bargain was Infinity RS-1
      4 large panels 12 woofers, 14 EMIM planar midrange drivers
      8 EMIT tweeters an internal crossover. Solid blond oak finish AND
      An electronic servo crossover
      All for $5500
      Todays high end wants 250 300000 for Wilson speakers that I personally don’t care for. The great era was 70s and 80s and very early 90s. Now it became a hobby for the ultra rich only. There are still some sane companies you just have to find them
