Honda has a recall on all the 1.8L engines from 06 to 09 with this block cracking issue. I have the same issue on my 08 EX so I took it to Honda & told them about this block cracking issue, they look the vin up & seen that their is warranty on these engines to be replaced FREE OF CHARGE if the block crack but that’s only after 1 of their technicians confirms that the block is actually cracked. But just say that 1 of the previous owners of car has already used that vin to get a replacement, then most likely you won’t be eligible to use it again. Oh yeah the age & mileage don’t matter either bc my Honda is 14yrs old & has 280,000+ miles on it & basically they are fixing snatch that out & replace it with a block that has 0 miles on it. So it seems like that recall is unlimited long as no1 has used the vin yet. Hopefully this was helpful.
oh crap I hope so. I have to make sure and see whether or not my block is cracked because I'm losing coolant. But, I don't see any drips on the floor rather I see no signs of coolant leaking its almost just disappearing. But if it is indeed a block crack, I really hope they would fix it even in 2022 so long as no previous owner had the recall done
I have the 2008 civic exl, same issue. My solution was too use a sealent K&W Fiberlock Head Gasket and Block Repair. This soo far gave me an extra 6months running, I had to poor another 1/3 of the bottle and now running another 4 months. Use sparingly as it can clog the heater core.
Yeah those sealer are not permanent solutions and created more problems in the long run. It's will clog radiator, Heather core, and other water passages in the block as well. Thanks for watching ok.
hey man so how did it end up treating you? Just bought my first car and like an idiot i didn’t do much research on the car. Just did a regular check on it but didn’t research. Just notice that it had a small leak coming from the engine block. I know other people have puddles of coolant under there car but mine was more like drops on the block. You think adding kseal could help?
Kseal is just a temporary work only. To get permanent solution is to replace engine. Be honest my car I will never used sealer because that is not created solution it only created problems. Sealer will seal Crack and block all your water passage in the radiator, engine block, and heater core. Thanks for visiting my channel hope my opinion helped you if it helped please help me subscribe 😉 thanks
Where were the north American engines built . I am in Australia and have not heard of this problem. Our sedans are built in Thailand not sure if engine is built there or comes from Japan.
The 2006-2009 Si (K20z3) are also affected by this. They tried excluding that for the duration of the recall and let out a bulletin in 2017 apparently. Mines been sitting cracked.
This is so bad. And why you should just find a k24 from a 08 crv and slap ur head on it. Only blocks ive seen not having this issue is the k24..... R18 k20 are prone to this. Honda hid it a long time for the k20s mainly because it was the higher end model r block. Litterally a k20 and r18 are same casting...... its all coming out. And your just screwed....
@@cheezybread7783boss man your block is cracked.... its common. 1 over heat. Crack. I tore down a 07 engine not cracked. And this is called a free floating wall. Wanna stop this problem.... fill the lower half of block with cement..... and leave all coolant passing the mid to head area. The top of walls has all the heat. More flow less coolant wasted low. Would solve this in think. Or honda should have castes the blocks thicker.
my 2008 civic 5 speed with 150k miles just started leaking. Same crack as yours. I put 1/2 tube of Silver Seal in mine, it has stopped leaking. I have nothing to lose, going to drive it as long as it lasts. I hate this because this was the best little car I have ever had in my life and I have had a LOT of cars.
Fill that entire area with JB weld, or even better remove the alternator and hard line and have someone weld aluminum and fill the entire area. It's cheaper than replacing the engine and it works well.
I filled that entire section with JB Weld. It's not leaking no more. A better alternative is to weld aluminum into the area. I'd just fill the entire region within the ribbed area.
@@alltsab It wouldn't be costly for Honda corp to spend the 3 hours or whatever per affected vehicle and tig weld the affected areas. It would raise confidence in the brand for them to be that accountable. This has affected so many people.

2006 Honda Civic with 145k miles....previous owner put some sealant in engine to prevent me from locating the crack in head....didn't work still left me on the side of the road. Seems to be a common problem with these high mileage Hondas :( So much for my budget beater car :)
145000k is low km lol for Honda I got an 06 with 145000km and just found the crack. This car was to replace my 02 Acura RSX that just clocked 397000km lol. Loves this RSX. Best little car ever.
Thanks for this video. I have a 2002 civic, and i think it also might have an engine crack, since it seems to be leaking near on the left side near the thermostat.
Honda really screwed us with this 8th gen civic. I patched mine with The JB weld tube. I rented a radiator pressure kit to see exactly where it leaks from. Drain the coolant and run the system with distilled water to remove the coolant because it'll never dry! I made that mistake. Then once it's dry, clean with degreaser, Dremel the area, and JB weld stick that b1tch. Hopefully the lord will let me keep this car a little longer. Also read the cracks could come from behind.
