    I used to ride a 49cc scooter to commute. One day I was talking with a couple of guys on old school Harleys about traffic, rain,...all tha stuff you talk about. ine of the guys asked what I was riding, and I reluctantly admitted to it being the scooter. I will never forget the feeling of inclusion I got when the one guy said "hey, you're on two wheels aren't you? ". So I will echo what you are saying here. Doesn't matter what you look like, or what you're riding. You're on two wheels, aren't you?

    Too lazy to deride others.
    Hipsters are harmless. I'd rather have a hipster on a single-cylinder SR than a boy racer who thinks a suburban road is a racetrack. And let's face it - more custom retro bikes on the road is a good thing.

    Dude, honestly a lot of these hipsters doing a lot of good to the motorcycle world. They resurrecting a lot of older machines and giving them a new life and that's just badass. Most of us "regulers" end up riding the same bikes and shit while these dudes are daily riding these older machines out here. I give them props.

      That's why I will never give up my 1990 Suzuki VX800. It's not an antique yet, but it is a bike that only sold for four years in the U.S.. So it's different, and I might even call it a bit querky. But like it I'm a little odd, but I'm ok with it!

      Its a phase or trend that will die off like most things the hipster generation does once most bail out then those bikes will be cheap, and most likely there will be plenty of these riders that will ride for rest of their lives once they tried it. And eventually become bikers instead of hipsters

      Gen X Murse70 right? got my first 2 wheeler at 8 years old, up til then we'd had a couple 4 wheelers, had a Honda 70 since I was 2. but when my uncle brought down my cousins old xr80, it was a life changing moment. my dad got a couple fat boys, a 93 and a 96 that he ended up giving to me. but I've always wanted a sport bike, maybe my next one will be. I've always been more of a dirt guy, got a 97 cr125 when I was like 11 or so, couldn't even touch the ground with both feet for a couple years.lol and a 96 300ex, then a 400 in 99 and just rode the shit out of em. I also raced cars, which my 96 fat boy got sold to pay for the built $22k zx11 engine we ran in it. so I bounce back and forth from 2 to 4 wheels, up until recently when I've not had any 2 wheelers that run. or 4 for that matter. that old xr80 and 400 are sitting in the barn waiting for a full rebuild. but I'll have another 1 or 5 pretty soon hopefully.

    Excellent point - little story: was at a Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha shop picking up some riding gloves - young dude (maybe 19 or 20) there getting his first motorcycle - Was a sweet looking sport bike (I don't know enough about those bikes anymore to easily tell one from another because I'm old as fuck) (65). I could tell he was excited about his first bike (and as I said above it was a sweet looking ride - very sporty but not really a pure race bike. I aksed him. Did you just buy that? Right away I sensed he thought I was going to give him shit about it - not so - I said very cool man - you'll have some fun with that and being a young buck you'll get some attention from the ladies with it. In my youth I rode sport bikes but in my old age I'm on my first Harley...I could see he appreciated my words...wished him good luck, fun but safe riding and went on my way...my take is motorcycling is sort of a brotherhood...nothing but love man...nothing but love

    We dont have that kind of debate in Western Europe. Getting a motorcycle license is such a long, hard and expensive process it would prevent anybody without true passion or genuine interest to try and have one. In France there are 3 differents tests you need to complete one after the other : off-road (50% failure), on-road (if off-road test complete), and an oral theory exam. Prior to that you need to follow a minimum 20 hours mandatory course to access the tests with no possibility to practice on your own - even if supervised - back home. Basic budget is $1200 but it can go up to $2000 if you struggle. I've seen a lot of hipsters quitting during courses or after failing the tests too many times. The ones that pass are not hipsters anymore - they deserve to be call riders no matter what brought them here!

    • @bsmis23
      @bsmis23 8 лет назад +6

      Completely agree with you, its the same here in belgium, the license is so difficult and expensive to get that the ones who do manage to get it you can't really regard them as hipsters (even if they look it ;p )

      in the Netherlands you can start at age 18... Also 3 tests(vehicle manouvering, if passed: theory exam, if passed: road exam) to be able to ride an 11kW bike. Then two years after that you can re-do the 3 tests (Not sure about the theory test, with the additional costs ofc) to be able to ride a 35kW bike... Two years after passing the 35kw test you can go for your full license...
      If you want to start with 35KW you need to be of age 21, for your full license 24.
      I luckily started with the older rules of 2 years 25KW(at 18) and without an extra exam you get your full license after those 2 years.

    I think the new motorcycle enthusiasm from so-called "hipsters" is great. The motorcycle scene needs new, young people to keep it going. I really like what they're doing with the retro bikes too. Bring it on and keep it coming.

    • @Roadghost88
      @Roadghost88 8 лет назад

      Yes, it's true for many of them. They wipe-out and start saying we need helmet laws for everyone (after riding like fools themselves). These kids look like Fine Arts and Humanities students. I took a look in one of the "boutique" motorcycle gear shops they go to and was almost floored by the prices, LOL. Everything had a very retro 60/70s feel. Kind of cool actually, but very exploitive cost wise. So much for shunning commercialism. Triumph Bonnevilles, old Honda CBs and old Sportsters are de rigueur. 20 years from now when their kids grow up they'll be yearning for another bike to relive their youth, and that's okay.

      And those retro bikes are piles. Some might be alright, I admit. But it's not the design or riding. It's them. The stupid colour matching parts, overpriced crap designs from ages ago, basically they are buying magazine watches with wheels.

    • @Roadghost88
      @Roadghost88 7 лет назад +5

      I think a lot of them are inspired by the old 80s book by Robert Persig "Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" along with David Mann paintings from old EasyRiders mags. The idea is to get an old bike from a time when they were more simple and learn how to fix them. LOL. As for colour, it's a free country. Ride what you like, wear what you like and enjoy life.

    Anyone who rides properly gets my respect and a nod from scooter to cruiser. People riding for any reason other than it's the dog's danglies won't last long. Fair weather riders smile just as much as us year rounders. I honestly feel sorry for people who've never ridden as they are seriously missing out. I love England but the weather's shit probably 40% of the year and the Health and Safety brigade drive me nuts.. Would be cool to live somewhere like your area, nice and warm with a true do what you want lifestyle.

      I always wear a white full face, Astar GP plus gauntlets, unbranded riding jeans & jacket, sidi boots.
      Yamaha vino 125 scooter - most bikers won't even look to see that I've looked, nodded and waved... unless I'm on a wheelie or something...
      Suzuki RMZ450 sumo - everyone looks and waves... but I'm usually on a wheelie...
      Yamaha FZ09 - same as suzuki
      friends Harley - every Harley waves, everyone else is similar to scooter...

    As far as I'm concerned hipsters are the people most likely to keep motorcycling alive. They're definitely keeping bikes alive that nobody else wants to work on. Not just triumphs, but old Yamaha CT series, and Suzi SPs. They're even keeping the old scooty scoots alive.

If they say "It's not a Harley", I tell them that I think it's cool, especially if they've done any work to it, because to them, it's the coolest thing ever. I was lucky enough to grow up around people who started riding 50, 60, 80 years ago, and they all said the same thing, that the wind feels the same no matter what the brand, and that most haters have never even ridden, but have a damned T-shirt. I don't care what it is, if it has an engine, it has my attention. If we don't encourage the next generation, the industry will DIE !!! And remember, we were ALL NOOBS at one time.

    Seriously, how many people who ride can say, "Oh yeah I don't care about the cool factor"? Part of the thrill of riding involves knowing you look like a badass, feel like a badass and personify unfiltered badassary in that moment-which is inherently the same perceived mindset that people criticize so-called "hipsters" for embodying. Every time I hear someone use that label, it's some knuckle-dragging dork whose disdain was a clear indicator of insecurity and jealousy of whoever they were criticizing. Even if someone is riding just because it's the cool thing to do, at least they're getting out there and doing it.

  • @simonheller5657
    @simonheller5657 8 лет назад +2

    Damn man, it's good to hear someone with that kind of mentality. I would like to add something to your argument, because I feel like it doesn't just apply to hipsters who try to look cool on their brand new neo-retro bonneville. Another margin of the motorcycle world that gets looked down on are the new riders, the one too broke to buy a big motorcycle or to get their full license yet (because let's be honest, it's really expensive, at least where I live). I am one of them, I'm a student, I don't have a lot of money but I've always wanted to get into motorcycles, and what's the solution? Buy a second hand 125cc. And don't think I need to tell you how people stare at you, while riding a moutain road on a sunny day like ever other biker out there, just because your bike is smaller.

    • @shadetreesurgeon
      @shadetreesurgeon  8 лет назад +1

      Damn man... you're right i never thought about it like that but I TOTALLY agree with you. i should make another video pointing out this distinction... getting your motorcycle license is cheap here in the US but I know its CRAZY expensive in europe. And you're god damn right... the same applies. older bikers should absolutely be looking out for the guy who's trying to get into the sport with what he can afford instead of taking a shit on them, after all over there all you guys start on 125s right?

    • @simonheller5657
      @simonheller5657 8 лет назад

      Wow, that was a quick response! Yes, here in europe, shit like this is expensive, and even more where I live (switzerland isn't known for its affordable prices...). And to answer your question, no we don't necessarily HAVE TO begin on 125's, but there are a lot of rules and regulations for young bikers. First of all, if you're not 25, you can't have an all-out motorcycle. What I mean is that the first license you have to take to drive a big bike will only allow you to drive it with 25 Kw (35 Kw as of 2 months ago) for at least 3 years, and then you can "unlock" the engine. And it's crazy expensive too, doing all the mandatory classes and paying for the practical exam will set you back at least 2'000-3'000 dollars, and with that you don't even have a bike. In addition to that, everything is more expensive for young riders, so the cheapest insurance will still be a lot of money. I guess you see the point^^. So for people who don't have a lot of money or students that don't have a job on the side, it's practically impossible to get into what most people consider "real motorcycles". In my case, since I have a driver's license, getting a 125 doesn't require anything more than 2 mandatory classes, and that's it, I can ride. And even though the community here is really nice, it's not that rare to find someone that will look down on you because you can't keep up with their 1000cc motorcycle.
      But I don't say that all rider do look down on us. A friend of mine had just bought his bike, a 125 ybr custom, and after a quick lesson from his father, he had to go back to his place. As I'm sure you remember, hill starts are a young rider's worst nightmare, so imagine a first timer. As he was going through the city, a light went red on a rather steep hill. When the light turned green, he tried to start again, but stalled again and again. The cars behind were honking. But an older rider passed in between the car, stopped his motorcycle and put it in the middle of the road, blocking the way. He walked towards my friend, and explained him the best way to do hill starts, so that he could manage it without any cars stressing him out.

      they arent all bad then... that was a really heartwarming story there in the end. :) You'd think when everyone had to go through the same expensive and arduous journey to get to where they are they'd be even MORE supportive of riders just beginning their journey. But, some people will always just be assholes I guess, we're lucky to find the good ones when we do!

    Problem with hipsters (at least here in NYC area) on motorcycles is that they are flagrantly guilty of what you are saying that other bikers say about them.
    -Let me unpack that-
    Im saying the hipster bikers are not at all welcoming to non hipster bikers. They are like a cheap yuppie wannabe gang clogging up the garment district whenever one of them tweets that an Esquire cameraman was just spotted in the area. Its pathetic. Basically a frat on 2 wheels with too much class, cash and east egg connection to deal with the proletariat.
    On a weekend I once watched a retro bastard pay to have his bike towed to a space in front of a bar because he did not want to mess up his hair driving there. He showed up with helmet and portmanteau 10 min later clutched in two retro gloved hands.
    Even worse might be the bankers and wall street crowd that have invaded and destroyed the Ducati experience for most of us much like the suburban yuppies that imbued Harley culture and destroyed it. Of course we have squid culture on sport bikes, the feminization of scooters and a question of political correctness for anyone riding an Indian....
    There is no purity left in biking outside of dirtbikes?

      Bloodtrail I agree with you, and offer a similar comparison. My job took me through downtown Los Angeles one day and driving through trendy Melrose, I see a "retro motorcycle store". Cool,,,, I stop in to check it out. What a total waste. Nothing but way over priced crap clothes; $80 T-shirts, leather jackets starting at $1000, $200 hoodies,,,, Seriously ? Give me a break. I wanted to throw up on the fake "project bike in the window". The putz behind the counter could not have cared less that I was even in there. I realized that I never see people who actually look and dress like this at the actual places that motorcycle people go to ? It just disgusted me that people are believing that this is "motorcycling" after emptying their wallets for this over priced junk. All fake,,,but what else should I expect for LA ?

    • @boomthebuilder

      bloodtrail bloodtrail that's not the case with all "hipster bikers". some do get into bikes just for the looks but there's also a big community of us who just love vintage bikes and cafes and trackers and shit like that. we fit the hipster biker stereotype but we maintain our own bikes, we know the ins and outs of our machines and we also do our own conversions. its not that biker culture isn't pure anymore its just that there are some posers who will only ride for maybe a year then never touch it again. but you can't stereotype us all for the actions of some dumbass. for example I'm only 17 and I got into motorcycles because I thought it would be fun and it just looked sick, my first bike was a 1985 Honda cb 125 that I fixed up all by myself and converted to a cafe with no help besides RUclips. there is still ten tons of biking shit that i have no clue about yet but we all gotta start somewhere

      Can you even tell the difference between a Flat Tracker, Scrambler or Cafe Racer?

    • @boomthebuilder
      @boomthebuilder 7 лет назад +7

      Moggy1000 really? yes I can. a cafe is usually defined by it's upswept exhaust, low mount clubmans or clipons, body cut off at the rear hub and front hub, a seat that has a back cowl, and an overall race bike posture achieved with the aid of rear sets . trackers on the other hand have alot of the same characteristics of a cafe but with a less Racey feel with a more upright riding position and higher handlebars. scramblers, like trackers have a more upright posture but longer front forks as well as a much higher exhaust to prevent it from clipping on the terrain. they also have a more dirt bike feeling seat with mudguards on both ends and they also usually sport knobby tires for off road. look dude I don't know everything about these kinds a bikes I'm only 17 but don't take me for an idiot. there are several bikes in the cafe/"hipster" category of bikes like brats and bobbers and I'm not saying I'm an expert in them but i have done my research and I know enough.

    Phukin agree with every word man. Well said.
    As I'm listening to you the following brain fart seems to have surfaced...
    Hey give me a hipster on a bratted SR500 street tracker over a power ranger R1 rider (bean counter weekdays, Rossi on Saturdays track day) with his matching leathers and paint job. Or a Dentist with a phukin clip on beard and chaps who rides his big credit HD big twin Sunday mornings (hey he's been to Sturgis he MUST be a real biker) because his hateful wife doesn't want him spoiling her baking session by him moping about the house pondering the his pointless existence. He's never heard of the Born Free Show and thinks a hipster is a cut of jean. When he returns from riding the same route he does every week (50 miles tops) looking badass in his Dark Custom jacket, he finally feels virile enough to remember what it was like to have a libido, but never mind there's always apple pie as a consolation prize, because Mrs Dentist is watching an old black and white movie and doesn't want to know.
    Neither Bean Counter nor Dentist really like to acknowledge each others existence, although both consider themselves bikers.
    Hipster dude rides every day, 1000+ miles a month. He doesn't have a car, nor does he want one, considers a twin leading shoe front brake adequate (even in the wet), and fixes his bike at the roadside because he knows every nut and bolt on the machine, after all he put them there. If he dies at an intersection because he's only wearing a plaid shirt and a novelty vintage helmet, it's his choice. At least he's passionate about life.
    You could ask me tomorrow. and my opinion might just be the same, or different.
    Yours,
    Dickhead (for now) :-)

    I came into this game late in life having lost my old man at 15. I respected my Mothers wishes not to have a bike until she passed away in 2008. The desire was still in me though a LOT of years since my promise so in 2009 I I took my test and haven't looked back since. So with only 4 years riding under my belt am I a hipster? I'm about to have a birthday that's 2 digits and the same number twice and it isn't 44.... so does that fact I am over 50 mean I'm not a hipster? I've done my UK advanced riding test and am probably one of those funny dressing weirdo's that wear full gear. I'll confess now I don't like seeing others without safety gear BUT at the end of the day, that's their dues and their privilege, so I'll reserve my judgement on the person until I get to know them.
    Guess it's a case of who's defining who - IMHO Let people have their thoughts shadetree surgeon end of the day a biker is anyone who has two wheels and loves to be on them, some I'll like, some I won't but they are still bikers.
    I see a biker in need of help - be they on a chopper, trials bike, sport bike or God forbid a scooter I'll always offer help. maybe I'm one of the hipsters - do I care ..... Nope.

    Probably gonna get some hate for this but I started out on a hipster bike (a 1985 Honda CH150 Elite) rebuilt it from the ground up. Rode the piss out of it. Never bought it to look cool or even to be a poser. I bought it because I rode it and fell in love with it. The feeling of being free and non constricted. The ability to be different and ride something I created. And to follow in my parents footsteps. (Both have been riding bikes since 1972), it wasn't a powerful bike or even a good looking bike. But it got me from point a to point b in the most amazing way ever. Till October last year. Was ridding home from work after a 10 hour shift and was minding my own business. Started through a intersection doing about 60kmph (light was green for me) a girl in a Dodge Ram pickup comes barreling up the road through the red light and plows dead on straight into me, totalling my bike. It's a year later and I'm still riding. It's about dedication

    I was 15 and a half on my rebel 250 and had a love for bikes when people started fucking me around for the passion I withheld. I loved bikes before I could even legally ride. My dad brought me up around bikes particularly Triumph. Started with a 74 Honda cb125 as a project then a 63 Triumph Tigercub but needed something reliable so I finally ended up with a rebel once I was legal to ride the roads. Now I ride a 1999 Triumph Legend 900 and just sold my Grom for a 63 Triumph T120 bobber hardtail. Im always trying to get people to ride. Like you always say its more of us less of them. I felt what you were talking about here, I was the kid with the passion and knowledge getting ridiculed by "real" bikers but never did I wear all the matching gear. Usually a tee shirt work boots and jeans with my helmet. This is still relevant today. I'm 19 now and make some motovlogs and videos riding my trikes check me out if ya want. You can see my legend and I will be doing a reveal of my T120 next monday.

    I just recently saw my first "shadetree surgeon" vid. I'm 70 and don't care for the foul language, but I thought you
    were humorous anyway, along with being sort of insightful about people. The inclusion of yourself in your comments about people was what I appreciated the most.
    Don't worry about answering this post, I'll have forgotten I ever said anything to you by tomorrow; don't know if it's because of the medication I'm taking, or of I'm galloping into senility that causes it, but for the most part, I'm blissfully ignorant of most of the things I casually say, anyway. I miss riding...the last time I rode was probably around '68; Honda 90 in '65 for graduating from high school, (probably surprised Mom & Dad so much that they went right out and bought it for me)...then sometime after that, a Honda 305 Dream that ran quite well, probably after flunking out of college, but I was too stupid...obvious by now...(which probably has something to do with their surprise at my graduation from high school) to keep it, then in '68, a guy with a muscle car (Camaro, I think, but I had no interest in cars, just my cousin's '37 Hudson Terraplane I learned on), and this kid urged me to try his Harley...I wondered if he had all his marbles, because if I had one, it'd be locked up ALL the time I wasn't on it...
    Well, apparently his arm twisting generosity made its point, and he said, "After you get going about 5-10 mph or so, it'll feel like it's driving itself." He was right, so I rode it to the airport, which was only about a mile or so away, and dumped it...what else?! Gas came flowing freely put of the carburetor that had no air filter connected to it, something I became aware only AFTER my right pants leg became soaked.
    Afraid I would spontaneously combust, I crawled out from underneath the metal monster, piiiiiickkked it up, then triumphantly rode back to the owner, my right pants leg smelling of I-don't-what-octane, and confessed my rather grievous sin of dropping it. Trying to make him feel guilty about my instability on his Harley was an impotent effort on my part, which only led me to the conclusion to that he was thicker faced than he looked. His mommy was there when he offered me the ride of a lifetime on his Harley, so I felt he couldn't have been all bad. Well, at least he didn't say, "You dropped it, you bought it, Jack!"
    I'm glad he didn't offer me a test drive in his Camaro next...I'd probably still be there at the airport, underneath his car..All this fun took place was on St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Unfortunately, that was the last motorcycle I ever rode. I now look at motorcycle vids almost everynight, dreaming about the old days...sighhhh. Well anyway, thanks for your video. I enjoyed it.

    I have this argument with a lot people.
    Here is some thing strange; Most people that meet me usually guess that I ride a motorcycle, and I do not dress in motor clothes or have any tattoos, but other riders seem to know other riders even when they don't have their mounts with them when they meet.
    Most people that talk shit don't really ride. They may own a bike but that isn't really the same.
    Go to the hang outs. The beaches, the bars, bike and cars shows. riders from all sorts of places with all kinds of faces generally mingle.
    We're all connected by the air between us or the wind in our faces.

    I got my first Honda 50 years ago and I am not concerned with whether anyone considers if I am genuine or not. My interest in riding came from seeing Steve McQueen make a Triumph "fly" over a barbed wire fence in the movie The Great Escape when I was a kid. I don't think Steve was a hipster but he did ride a Triumph. I have a Triumph Bonneville (2007) and a Harley Davidson Sportster (2002) A BMW R850r (1997), A Kawasaki Ninja 250 (2007) and just added a Ducati Hypermotard (2008) to my garage. I love riding a variety of bikes and I ride every day, year round. That's why I live in Florida. The one piece of advice I have to offer is to not judge or look down on any rider. We need to welcome anyone with an interest to discover the wonders of motorcycling.

    The only issue i have is liking a car/truck/bike/what ever when the "scene" comes around. Like the drifting scene in car culture. Where we once had plentiful 80s/90s fun and fast cars. Now everyone is buying them up and crashing them which causes a hyperinflation on value. Same with old 70s/80s japanese bikes like a Yamaha xs650 that everyone loves turning into a shotty hard tail or cafe racer. Almost impossible to find one that isn't molested or dropped.

    Shade tree, I more often than not find myself not agreeing with your views but I do find your vlogs highly entertaining. However, on this vlog you are 100% spot on! No matter what you ride or how you dress, getting new riders into motorcycling will benefit the industry and most importantly will benefit all riders, no matter which style or brand of bike you ride. Well done!

    I've ridden for 13yrs, I got into it for the sport mainly. As a experienced rider, I usually teach from "my" experiences and give pointers as far as my knowledge goes. I just don't like when a "hipster" better known as "squid" tries to justify me or try act like they know when he/she really doesn't.

    so i have a question, I'm considering a triumph street twin as my next bike. I like the looks of it, it's how a motorcycle should look like to me, simple. I'm not going to buy matching leather jackets or gloves for it, I just love to ride and makes me feel better after a hectic day at work, and the feeling of being free. I also try to improve myself when riding and to ride safer, no rush just enjoy the scenery and what's around you. So am I a hipster?

    • @shadetreesurgeon
      @shadetreesurgeon  7 лет назад

      +ripmax333 not at all, in fact I don't think anyone's a hipster. It's a dead word.

    What category do I fall into, 54 years old and just returned to riding after 30 years. Quit riding as a show of respect to my Father. His best friend’s Son got killed on his bike. I Quit riding at 24 yrs old. My father passed away in Sept immediately riding again entered my mind. New Kaw cruiser. I’m like a kid at Christmas.

    I'm 29yr old male from the Philly area and I need transportation. Ive thought about how cool it would be to have a bike since I was 17 and always wondered when I would be able to have a bike. Well its spring and after looking at used bike prices I thought maybe this is my time. Maybe I can get a cheap bike and have my way to work and a new prized possession. So saturady evening after going from dealership to dealership to dealership I ended up at one of the people's house from craigslist that I had been talking to. I shook hands on finalizing a deal hopefully Wednesday for a 02' Shadow Spirit 750 with 7800'something miles and I want to jump through the window wake up in the hospital and have it be WEDNSDAY!!!! I cant wait its freaking me out. GREAT VIDEO man.

    Right on, man. I got into this because I wanted to ride, not because I cared about what it means. I've got nothing but respect for everyone on two wheels, I don't care if it's a 'busa, HD, or a scooter. Hell, it takes more balls for a grown man to ride a scooter than it does for me to hop on my night rod.

    Dude Danny McBride was a bad ass on that Honda trail 90. That being said if you ride and like to ride it doesn't matter who you are as a person we are all into bikes show other motorcycle enthusiasts some kindness.

    As an avid motorcycle enthusiast, hipsters sort of started a lot of what we have today. I mean all the beatnik type dudes in Europe riding cafe racers. It was sort of like the blues of rock. A platform that the next era was based on.
    I'm just happy people are riding and I love old Triumphs, 1970's Honda CB's, early 70's Suzuki GS cafe's. Some awesome bikes.

    My first bike was a 1970 Honda 125 cc dirt bike first street bike was my dads 1970 Honda CB 360 in 1974. My best friend had a 1973 CB 350and we rode the shit out of those bikes and we rode these bikes in 6 inches of snow when it was pouring down rain only because we didn’t have the money for gas in our cars, mine was a 1970 nova and his was a 1972 Subaru I rode my bike constantly. And do not believe I or anyone has the right to judge anyone for their riding styles or apparel I do not wear a helmet when I’m in town doing 30 mph. Always when I get on the freeway along with gear. Keep up the awesome reviews and bike builds I love the chopper you are building!

    he's right what's wrong with people wanting to try something new, this was my first year on the road I've been riding off road for about 13 years and I agree there's nothing wrong with new people riding. the people who aren't committed to riding will fall out and do something else and the ones who are serious about it will stick around to enjoy this amazing thing that we all enjoy together

    If I see someone, maybe a young guy who hasn’t been riding lond, but has a true passion for riding and a passion for whatever he is riding, then I can appreciate him for that alone. If he starts wasting time putting other bikers down for whatever reason, then I might be the first to tell him to not waste any negative energy on hating and to just enjoy what you are doing.

    I pretty much love all bikes. The only ones I don't understand are the newer baggers that are basically Cadillac SUVs complete w/ windshield, cruise control, gps, stereo systems, couch cushions for saddles, etc all to make the bike more like a cage.

    I've been watching a lot of RUclips videos lately about what new riders do and what to expect from new riders and everything cause I just got my first bike. I was given a 01 Suzuki Katana 750, is it a Harley no is it what I want no but, it was free and gives me a chance to learn the basics on a bike i don't have much money invested in. It is a little intimidating to ride for the first time and have older guys look down on you cause your not riding the "right brand" or whatever elitist opinion they have. Thanks for posting something like this to reassure us new riders that some people don't give a shit and are just happy to see new people enjoying riding.
