Wohooo!! Thank you so much Splattercat! I am so happy you enjoyed the game that much, you are the best!! I kept most of the gameplay secret all these years to surprise everybody, and you realized that :)
P.S: Heads-up guys! If you are already a good strategy player you may want to start with Harder mode, and I'm working on a mid difficulty too :D
@@killerluuk trust me it's not high at all :)
@@CatmanITA here that - but always pays off to listen to direct market feedback.
Dude, it's 17 bucks. How is that expensive?
Especially considering indie games have been jumping from 20 to 30 and AAA from 60 to 70
I was on the fence about this game, but having seen Splat play and describe it so fondly I'll take the plunge.
There is an end goal to the game: one has to survive until the apocalyptic prophecy, if one survives that they win the game.
"I try not to make correlations too much".
The beginning of every video: "This is like Pac-Man meets Tarkov, meets Battletech meets Candy Crush with a Darksouls meets Stardew Valley kinda vibe that reminds me of Dwarf Fortress if was made by EA Sports but in a The Long Dark kinda way"
...-like.
For sure - love the channel but I had to chuckle at that comment when he said it...
And the whole result had a baby with Rocket League...
Bro I just made a comment about this too!!! lmfao
Haha, so true :D
Currently playing this game, thanks for boosting it, Splattercat! It really is a gem and should deserve more attention.
Thanks for playing!
I love seeing a review of a game that's actually finished! Lately I have a really hard time paying attention to anything that's unreleased or even in Early Access -- I just don't want to hear about it until it's ready because SO MANY games sit unfinished for years and years. So thank you for showing me a game I want to buy right now!
That is why I did not go with EA. I wanted to give people a finished and novel experience. I do not bother with EA Games myself
Splattercat: " I'm not one of those people that wants to draw correlations between games too much"
Also Splattercat just this past week:"Frostpunk & XCOM are packed together in this new strategy RPG"
"Skyrim and Vermentide made a baby indy RPG"
"What if Diablo's war for hell was a full fledged strategy game?"
lmfao
I still love you Splattercat!
I like that Dot Age gives you some headsup to prepare for what's coming. You're not just having it drop while you scramble to cope.
I don't know why but simple graphics like this holds more magic to me than ultra realistic games. Don't get me wrong I enjoy those too but sometimes while its pretty to look at it seems empty or dead..... don't know how to write it better than that. Anyway thanks for letting me discover another nice one!
Watching this video with the nice green grass and the simple pixel art just reminded me of how much I played Zelda - The Minish Cap on my GBA.
I enjoy the fact that your avatar leads by standing next to something that needs doing and vigorously yelling at a cloud.
22:19 and we finally realize they've all had "Ate without table" this whole time? No wonder that lady is Distressed!
Love his passion and excitement when he finds a unique game :)
Glad you're showcasing this game! I got it on Launch a few days ago and I'm having a blast with it! Currently on a great run, I think I'll finish my first full playthrough soon.
I like the idea of modifying prophecies instead of meeting arbitrary services like luxury, religion etc. It allows for events to seamlessly blend into the theme they potray based off of how you treat the "service"
It also reminds me of against the storms forest mysteries, but more focused.
Much like AtS it also allows for an adveserial setting, without needing to resort to warfare. Since frostpunk and factorio ive noticed alot of strategy games have taken an ecological tone, which I think is really cool
I have never played those games, but indeed my goal was to show the strife of the community against an increasingly dangerous world and not other communities.
@@yggdrasilburnes I am intrigued I was just so busy making this!
@@CatmanITA Definitely parallel thinking going on which is pretty cool. Both games have a dangerous world that threatens to outscale the player
@@followingtheroe1952 How would you compare this too AtS? Which one do you prefer?
Awww maaan! You're going to make me buy yet another game adding up to the pile of dope games I don't have time to play! Thanks Splat!
"turn based Rimworld"
I am now interested
The whole "signs expand your domain" and chains of production reminded me a lot of Settlers 2. Really interesting :)
The game is quit good. Ive been sitting with it for a week now, and pretty much mastered most of it. It took a few tries, before you understand your priority. When that was in it`s place, you start to avoid the problems. You can also get remove heat on the problems, if you avoid X amount. Then you play it easy mode. I must say i love this game.. Its chaos from time to time. But its a game, where you have time to think, due it turn based.
I do agree this game can be quite cruel.
Oh hey BlindiRL :D
Cruel Dev Thesis.
We evangelion this game
@@conq1273 go ahead!
If they were to import a greens palette similar to _Link to the Past_ I think it would be much easier on the eyes and add a bit more coziness to the game, which would pair well against the tension of ever looming threats. Thanks Splat!
I was just thinking of getting this. Been on my wishlist forever
This game is a real hidden gem
MFW Title doesn't mention turn-based Rimworld, Splat lied to me.
smh
fml
Every colony survival game out there is just a gateway drug to Dwarf Fortress now. My life is over
@@Dyanosis lol.. saw your reply on the other comment too. Someone piss in your cherrios this morning or do you just always pretend to be this edgy?
It also seems you don't understand the term gateway drug. 🥴
I got it the day it came finally out.
I saw it some years back in one of your videos and had it on my wishlist forever
My friend bought me this game yesterday while I was at work. I got off, fell asleep on the recliner watching Walker Texas Ranger, woke up at 4am and played for 2 hours, went to bed and then played today from 12-3. Technically 5 hours in one day.
10/10 would throw my life away again.
26:44 i heard there is frostpunk 2 coming, although i don't know when exactly
I think the art and visuals are really nice, and they'd get my attention, not put me off.
You find the gems lost in the sea of games.
Thank you for covering this wonderful game!
okay but can we all stop pretending that Randy Random is hard mode in Rimworld? I've been getting destroyed by Cassandra forever because everyone hyped Randy up to be brutality incarnate, finally I'm like, okay lets do this, why is this so easy, all I'm doing is thriving, oh no finally something bad happened and it was like nothing, followed by another 2 years of nothing happening. Like, yeah, I get it, I've gotten my 3 raids in a row in the middle of a solar flare... Cassandra did that to me, because Cassandra actually fights you and punishes prosperity where Randy is more like just, free play, be prepared for anything and you're just kinda golden.
Waaaay ahead of you Splat. I've already finished one run, half way in the 2nd one. Salutations from God realm
Thanks for playing!
this was actually a pretty fun game.
Been looking forward to this one since you first reviewed it.
The domains only generate the negative resources once they woke up, which happens 5-8 days before their event happens, which for your level 2 fear domain should be about +3 fear/day. The +1 fear/day was generated by the distressed pip, distressed is a treatable condition and once it's treated the pip stops generating fear. There are also positive conditions that will generate positive resources for a set amount of days. Also, the domains are not random, you can see upcoming events in the prophecy and prepare for them in advance, which you pretty much have to do at later stages of the game when domains generate +30 negative resource a day.
In the vid Splat said he didn't know how the open the prophecy so to him it'd look more random then it really is. Although it is in way random since all playthroughs are different.
This game is way too brutal. Some omens are permanent, and RNG is especially painful when you're winning at 93% in early autumn, lose the spinning wheel, and your entire village gets caked with snow, disease, hunger, rain, while 2/3 are either stunned, frozen, or distressed. I haven't even gotten into how bad winter is.
@@acevaver5425 Try a lower difficulty, there is no shame in it. I'm still on my first playthrough but i only ever needed to roll twice so far. I'm on normal page 7 of the prophecy. My game is a nice chill puzzle with occasional managable crises.
Thanks for the video! Tried the demo last night, then picked up the full game. The "just one more turn" lure is strong - I looked at the clock and it was 2+ hours past my bedtime. Oops! 😅
I loved the demo! Great review.
Hey Splattercat I was thinking that your screen is *really* too bright, so there may be a bug with some GFX cards, you can compare your game with what is on the Steam page! Anybody knows what Splattercat setup is?
They used a 8bit version of Apocalypse Orchestra - Garden of earthly delights as soundtrack at 20:03. I wonder if they have permission for that.
It's from the Montpellier Codex, circa 1600, we created that track in 2014 if I recall correctly
@@CatmanITA Huh, I had no idea that wasn't an original song. The more you learn :))
Your game is awesome btw.
@@nitamihnea3288 thanks! Mediaeval music is awesome, all music from dotage comes from real mediaeval tunes!
I just tried the demo and added it to my wishlist
Another game with a tremendous user interface. I really like the scroll with the prophecies. It's cryptic but beautifully designed. I agree that it could use a touch less bright colors, because I find the cooler, softer nightime animation to be very enjoyable. Same with the close ups of the art.
Thank you, I obsessed a lot on UX
Have you ever been to a chicken farm and wondered why do all the chickens have human arms?
I think it's pronounces "Doh t age". Like the verbification of when you "dote" on something.
Pretty sure that you need to put the chicken coop on a chicken spot.
Game looks really fricking cool
Just a little advice, you really need to grow your population faster, food is not hard to provide (until winter), 7 people at day 50 is way too low.
Splatt, sometimes you use words that make me realize…my vocabulary is limited.
Victory goal is survive the doom events and apocalypse. You can win the game. And you can u can lose and fail.
Love this look on games, 3D tend to age poorly. Thx for featuring another finished game!
I love this game so much.
Could you review soulslinger envoy of death once it comes out? Fps roguelite with a cool western setting. (recommended you for a review copy, there is a demo available during steam next fest!)
32 bit color? Not a lot of shading? That's all the colors lol... 😂
ThankYou SirSpla77
Now when you say RinWorld, do you mean more generally that it is a Colony Sim?
Hopefully this one will be a good game
Unsure? Try the demo :)
expand is the first thing to do, otherwise you starve really fast :D
150 k IDR for this? Fun value will be enough to buy enough Bayraktar drone to support across entire Australia.
I bought the game. It's fantastic thanks for the recommendation.
That's how it's done. You should just release the finished game, instead of releasing a beta of the alpha of the closed pre-tetta test...
Or... pre-release of the pre-release, or whatever people even call it these days. 🤣
(Now, don't get me wrong. I know there are instances where it's necessary. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about most game that can and should just release as full games, but instead they release piece by peace for no reason.) 😂
im sorry but splat is off his rocker, saying its like rimworld over and over does not make it such, i kno he means concept wise, but he is just forgetting a ton of shit that makes rimworld what it is.
Yeah, I feel the same. Cannot see how this is like Rimworld. I feel like it was click bait, or maybe SEO spamming 😞
i thought i didnt like roguelikes, but ive been constantly playing Summum Aeterna this past few days
Did he just say dot-age. It's an actual word doh-tage.
I disagree with you on the graphics, I think the game looks great.
I kinda like the way the art style is deliberately minimal, but yeah, it is a bit too unrelentingly bright.
My screen is quite bad I did not realize
One. Of my favorite. I only got it thanks to the demo
Please do a review of Polylithic, very Above Snakes vibes.
Strawberry fields forever?
Completely different from the original ileteration.
Took me a while to improve the design!
@@CatmanITA it does look much better
GGs and thanks for a great review!
Graphics are kinda cool
If this game is like Rimeworld, can i harvent the organs of others & sell them on the blackmarket?
Will you ever get into gameplay sooner than 10min into the video my dude 😭
A woke threat?
Is that like an angry tweet?
when you start seeing purple hair popping up everywhere
@@throeawae2130 To use this calamity to your advantage, you should play the Trump card! 😆
The Trump card says: Elon Musk buys Twitter and calls it X. No more bots and no more catering to the 🤡 🌎. Woke threat avoided.
Is this for android?
I think it's pronounced like goat, not like hot.
I hate to be that "um ACKSHUALLY..." person but... it's pronounced 'dode-ijj' - i.e. "the period of life in which a person is old and weak." although the game plays on that word and calls it Dot Age.
Looks like just the graphics hold it back. If it had just a bit more "interesting" (enticing perhaps) graphics it would pull People in.
It's pronounced dough-tij, not dah-tij
... Let's compare a game to another game that isn't close enough in comparison. It's like googling "games like Terraria" and you get the result Don't Starve, and Subnautica.
From all your experience playing games, you decide to liken this game to RimWorld? What is the thought process behind this? RimWorld focus on the stories, which includes heavily how characters interact. Wildly different focus.
I see this as a turn based town management sim. I'm not even naming a specific game, and am more accurate to comparison. RimWorld isn't a town management sim.
The comparing things is a repeated sin of this channel. For one thing, they often mix up genre and theme.
oh noo
You're right! Time to unsub!
Dotage is pronounced doe tij, not dottaj.
🖤
Turn base?? Man!.....i m out.😅 too bad i was expecting it for a while. I m so tired of turn base games. ( i m on switch, so tge number of turn base jrpg on this system is nuts....i cant wait to get me an asus laptop and play survival rpg with base building and fast pace c9mbat!😊)
i really hate the font choice
Honestly I'd rather the gameplay have started at the very beginning.. it's rather jarring and unimmersive to jump in to a playthrough partway through.
I really wish the game wasn't so ugly. Otherwise seems great.
Pin me daddy
No pinnage 4 you.
Lost me when you said turn based, those games suck
