I can say from personal experience that the 45 Auto GI Ball ammo was quite effective against the enemy. Was in Vietnam for just under 3 tours, and the 45 was always on my hip, or in a shoulder holster. It never failed to do the job.

It's Really a Fight Stopping Round based on the same experiences in 19th Century Afghanistan where ritish Army Officsrs could fire all 6 rounds from a .38 Revolver (same diameter size as 9mm ) at a Sword wielding drugged up attacking Tribesman, and still be Cut in Half with the Sword before the Tribesman dropped. This resulted in the development of the one shot fight stopping cartridge, the Webley .455, with low velocity big heavy bullets transferring energy to the attacker efficiently. The Black powder .44 Russian worked well too, as can the suitably ,oaded S&W .44 Special Revolver round. High velocity artridges that have over penetrating bullets, will usually have this lack of transfer of energy issue to attempt to overcome (can be helped with very fast twist rifling and bullet design of course ) . Browning's first attempt, with the .380 ACP can be made to work today with much improved since the time ewer bullet designs that will not over penetrate. But Big, Heavy, and Slow ballistics, will still always work well today, except against effective Body Armour. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍

One of the 1911's expected attributes: afterall, that is the cartridge design it was designed for...? Well, the natural followup would be with some reloads. The MBC 230gr Softball coated bullets are some of my favorites: lots of load data for 230gr FMJs, LRN & plated RN bullets out there as well!

The 45 acp is still the ultimate combat round!! It doesn’t matter what they say about the modern improvements to the 9mm or other less rounds. The 45 still makes a bigger hole ( more loss of blood) and those same improvements have also been preformed on the 45 acp round , so that argument is a moot point!

Almost all of my .45 ACP is in revolvers, with my “hardball”. Load being 240 grain RNFP’s from RCBS mould 45-230 CM over 4.5 grains of Titegroup. Only 765 fps from a 4” barrel, but it hits steel a lot harder than any 9mm.

I load .45 ACP hard ball with A 230 gr bullet and 4.9 gr of Bullseye. That is supposed to be closest to the original load as possible. It usually gives me about 830 fps out of a standard 1911.

Hey Steve, Ya,, you are so correct. the .45 ACP was developed as a Military "One shot stopper" however, the attraction with the Hardball round is as far as Bullseye shooting In (EIC) NMC is , Can you master the recoil, can you develop pulling the trigger and watch your sight alignment at the same time as one thing? can you shoot it with accuracy, can you shoot it with center accuracy with one hand? and at 50 yards as one shot slow fire as one round per minute? can you shoot it in timed of two relays of 5 shots each in 20 sec? and then,, Can you shoot it in rapid fire of two relays of 5 shots each in 10 sec?.. this presses the mental skills of almost anyone to the limit. Good video, keep up the good work Steve. -Dave

    A 9mm might expand, but a .45 isn't gonna shrink.

I’ve always of the mindset that the .45 caliber was designed to start out where other calibers could ever hope to expand to 🤔🤔🤔

To be Fair equal Ballistics can easily be achieved with Cartridges like the S&W .44 Special for example, plus of course the Grandaddy .455 Webley, which started the success of Big, Slow, and Heavy fight stoppers. After a massive Gray Squirrel problem locally, I used the same principles to Cast Pure Lead .575 minie bullets, with an ounce and a 16th weight, loaded to 600 fps, and loaded them into plastic wads to use through a True Cylinder 12 bore shotgun. One shot, one blown up Squirrel Dray. impressive results tbh, and I got on top of the Squirrel problem. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍✨️✨️✨️

I like your video and your vitamins slingers however I am confused somewhat by your compensated auto as you still are experiencing a lot of muzzle flip from it. I shoot a 70 series gold cup and no comp and honestly don't believe I experience much more. I realize your shooting one handed and it might be some of it. Just very curious about comps for 1911.

The Hague convention stated that lead bullets could not be used anymore in wars , they thought it was cruel and unusual punishment to be shot by one same with hollow point bullets.

A .223 Caliber Bullet is about 1/2 the diameter of a 45 Caliber bullet.
Velocity is multiplied by Velocity to calculate the Energy of a projectile.
E=MVV where M is the mass of the bullet and V is velocity.
The 45 230 grain hard ball is a slow subsonic bullet. The 38 Caliber bullets used against the Muslim Warriors in the Philippines moved even slower and weighed less than half of a 230 grain 45.
A 9mm can knock on the door of the sound barrier. It is about 38 Caliber. The 9mm was a proven cartridge in 1911. It was also JMB’s intended caliber for his 1911 pistol. But, the paradigm shift was not going to happen for 75 years in the future.
You can carry more 9mm for a SMG or a pistol than 45 caliber cartridges. The 9mm revolution was as much about capacity as 9mm’ 100 year history as a man stopper.
A 45 will pick a man up and hurl him 100 yards thru the uprights on a football field every time… It has knock down power. Watch movies & TV.

FYI - a "tough" Remington bullet - cheap test for bullet "toughness" 30-06John "45 Auto Penetration Testing in Paper, Ceramic Tile, Plywood and Water Jugs" ruclips.net/video/O2MSDcnsS7M/видео.html Very surprising how out of 5 different bullets (4ea 230 grain FMJ hardball type and 1 250 grain hard cast flat point) only 1, at 5:33 the Remington 230 grain , proved to be truly 9:17 "tough" - all others broke up to bits and failed to penetrate when sufficiently challenged.
