    Steve, you mentioned that she has a fireplace, A fireplace adds a cheery atmosphere, however, she should shop for a fireplace insert (woodstove) and have that installed in her home, the problem with fireplaces is all the heat goes up the chimney and there isn't any way to control the amount of air being drawn by the fire (The hotter the fire, the more air gets drawn, the faster it burns and the more heat goes up the chimney) So,, the wood you work so hard to put away burns up faster and wasted. a wood stove is a lot more efficient, Take a look at the brand "Blaze king". I feel they are the best, one log can last all night and there will be coals in the morning, just toss another log on. Peace- Dave

      ...and in most cases, that drawn-in air is being sucked in through every crack in the house.
      Yeah, wood stove with a dedicated combustion air feed.
      I do like a fireplace though... I like to play with my fire. :D

    Haven't been to a public or private club range in decades. Having my own range in the woods is a real blessing. I can walk 30 paces from my backdoor and be at the 100m range. Of course, it took considerable effort to clear the shooting lane in the dense woods, but it was worth it. Many of my neighbors spread out along our road have ranges as well. We often gather at one for some friendly practice and informal competition. No two ranges are alike. We're definitely a 2A country community. In the years I've been here I've taught five of my neighbors to reload as well. And since I'm the only bullet caster here, they all mine their berms and bring me range scrap lead. Yup, I'm truly blessed to be here in the woods. 😉

    In my area The Cincinnati Revolver Club has a velocity maximum of 800 fps. It is an indoor range. The club is into traditional Bullseye shooting.
    The reason is the back stop thickness. Since it does not take a great deal of energy to 100% penetrate paper slow is fine. They recycle the Boolits from the trap. You pretty much must hand load your centerfire ammunition to stay below 800 fps.

      Want to be very carefull with crimping a plated bullet, also when flaring the mouth lean towards more than less flare,, kinda treat them like a lead bullet because one little nick in that thin platting and it will act just like a lead bullet in all the negative ways of lead bullets and accuracy will go to hell also, the Lee factory crimp like jhornet says used lightly works well and what I use, been loading the plated type bullets in 9mm 357 and 44 magnum for at least a dozen years now and I load a BUNCH of them (about 12,000 9mm alone ) in a year with fine results that way,,, but I can't stress good brass prep enough, no burrs or sharp edged case mouths and a bit more mouth belling that a regular jacketed bullet,,,treat it like lead,, I have to do that anyhow because of my auto bullet feeder on my fully automatic press anyhow so it doesn't drop them when it advances stations.

    As strange as it sounds certain shooting range RULES sometimes make you a much much better shooter. One club I used to go to many years had a rule you couldn't shoot handguns closer than 25 feet away. This forced everybody to become expert marksman and slow down to concentrate on fundamentals and precision accuracy. Long story short when you see or encounter these other shooters blasting away doing mag dumps and very fast cadence rapid fire at 3 to 7 yards you are less than amused. Their grouping looks like a shotgun pattern all over the place. It's no problem at all for YOU to keep all of your shots at 25 - 50 feet away into a group about the size of a golf ball or half dollar dead center of the target. In theory they were training everyone who shot at that particular range to highly proficient and deadly accurate shooters. Anyone at random could give anybody from the local PDs, Sheriffs Department and even the SWAT guys a run for their money. More often than not even BEAT THEM at their own game. Kinda shameful if you ask me but glorious and noteworthy all at the same time. "Where in the world did that guy learn how to shoot like that" they often said....just shaking their heads.
    The short answer: shooting range rules MADE you do it!
    😉

    • @adama1294
      @adama1294 7 месяцев назад +3

      Just because it might be better training is no reason to force people to do it. I have seen some incredibly stupid range rules that have nothing to do with saftey. Only 1 round in the gun, shoot only 1 in 5 seconds, no fmj, no semi autos, only scoped. Barrel length requirments.

    • @rifleshooterchannel208

      I like how you think 25 feet is a significant range increase over 7 yards.

    • @JohnDoeEagle1
      @JohnDoeEagle1 7 месяцев назад

      @@adama1294
      There is valid reason for doing it and cutting down on range damage with people having their targets way too close was the reason. The amount of stray bullet holes in the walls and ceiling was greatly reduced. I never said 25 feet was "far" either. I said 25 feet was the MINIMUM anybody that shot there was allowed to be shooting. Most of these guys had no problem pushing out 15, 20, 25+ yards with a handgun and making tiny holes with direct POA/POI hits. It was plenty for even SWAT Team members to take notice and say something. Anybody that can accurately shoot 15+ yards with a handgun is no rookie by any stretch of the imagination.
