I saw him play about 20 years ago. He played Chopin with the most romance and feel. I love his interpretation of Chopin. He seemed very shy and dreamy between pieces, very endearing.
I played almost every version youtube had to offer and finally found this - beautiful - he was the only one that truely played from his heart - Chopin put the challenge out there to structure passion and this guy did it
Nancy March yes!!! You hit the nail on the head about what What makes this guy stand out from the others is the amount of passion he puts into each note he plays...So much, so that I can get what he is feeling as he plays. It's as if I am listening to a story.
I can not express in words what Bunin express with gestures and movements ... Of the most faithful to the masterpieces of one of my greatest heroes: Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin.
Man this might be the best interpretation I've heard. Bunin plays the second section so well. Its full of life and has direction, perfect rubato, like Chopin himself would be playing. Most other versions of the second section can drag and be boring, this version really grabs your attention.
finally a very good interpretation... a great expression of the romantic period! thank god! it seems like no many famous pianists really understand this piece!
Herein lies chopin's emotional history. Not how he lived, or what happened, but how he felt. This is love, aloofness, isolation, depression, bitterness. His true history. I just hope i can write mine with the ability to show this much love...
AWESOME! i am looking at the responses and it makes me regret opening up my daughter at 11 to reluctantly agreeing to put responses on youtube for her video. i thought this pianist put his heart and soul into this difficult piece and did a kick ass job of doing so. it is an incredibly difficult piece and i thought he did wonderfully!!!! A+++!
Stan dear, you just blow my mind with this kind of playing. As the saying going in some cultures: "If you don't play Chopin, you don't play the piano." You are the PIANIST! Chopin being my favorite I hear his music often but few moved me the way you did with this performance of a much favorite among many people! God's richest blessings upon you and hope your wonderful playing will inspire more people to learn the piano and cultivate the classics! HagenSara10
Chopin actually disliked this composition. I can't remember why but I'll bet if he heard Bunin play it he may change his mind. Bunin has amazing control, dynamics and beautiful phrasing! A wonderful performance indeed!
some time ago there was also videos of the other impromptus here played by him in this same recital, i remember how great his rendition of the second impromptu was. If somebody have that video, please upload it, PLEEEEEASE!
I always thought my own interpretation was a stretch from the standard. But now Bunin reassured me my interpretation is good, and it was quite a surprise when I realised how closely our interpretations resembled each other, having just found about this extremely underrated pianist after playing fantasie impromptu for four years now.
Yes, interesting use of rubato indeed. I'm not so sure I like it though. Great interpretation anyway. One of my favorite parts about Fantasie Impromptu is the fact that it can be interpreted in so many different ways.
from 1:10 to 1:16 This part is often played by left hand only. Using both hands is what I've once thought of , but I've never tried because I didn't know anyone who did so. Flexibility... Anyway I like how Bunin put color on this piece.
@OriginalBasaliskos Thank you! I was checking my mail box (on my YT account) and this is the second harsh reply I get from someone who actually did not understand what I was saying.. Getting insulted is disturbing, but getting insulted by fools is rather reassuring...
@Vije4ka He wasn't comparing the pianists talent, he was merely listing Russian pianists. No reason to be condescending and tell someone they don't understand anything about music, especially when you entirely misunderstood their post. I'm inclined to believe those who go around saying others "understand nothing about music" are the ones who clearly don't understanding anything about music, because they obviously don't know music speaks to people differently.
@grooveman69 There is the theory that he thought it was too close to a study by Moscheles - but in that case it is an elaboration which takes a scaffold and rebuilds it into a palace :-)
I'm 80 years old, and this is still my favorite piano piece of all the things Chopin wrote. Bunin is by far the best I've heard.
everybody, you do realize that this gentleman is 99 yrs old now, right?
Jay Money sad hes gone
@@tomas_soeterik how do you know he's gone (=dead)?
Hey, are you still alive, mate? Or you are just a huge liar

I agree.

Bunin is above the rest! His Chopin is beautiful and irresistible.
This is quite an interesting performance ! Both romantic and sincere performance of Chopin's music. Bravo !

Hands down one of the best interpretations of this piece..Phenomenal..for me
wonderfull piece, one of the best in the history of piano and what a fantastic pianist is Bunin!
The best version for me, hands down. Others play it faster but the passion here is undeniable.
Very good performance, one of the best interpretations of fantasie-impromptu on youtube!
finally a very good interpretation... a great expression of the romantic period! thank god!

He has style, he is original and he has talent. Nice rendition.
the way his fingers move on the keys is like flowing water that moves freely without any care...I was deeply moved by this.
Sublime! There's no words to express my admiration. Thanks, julius19 for reposting this video.
I like his special phrases and fluctuation of dynamic. It was a revelation to discover his playing.
BRAVO Bunin!

great performance!! BRAVO!!
You know how to play the piano of Chopin beautiful.
best performance ever!
Bunin- the most beautiful.
Nice! A differente interpretation, with feeling....
Chopin actually disliked this composition. I can't remember why but I'll bet if he heard Bunin play it
he may change his mind. Bunin has amazing control,
dynamics and beautiful phrasing! A wonderful performance indeed!
he has so much expression in his playing and its obvious that he likes wat he is doing
amazing
Which is far more important than the dynamics, especially for a piece such as this.
FANTASTIC!
beyond genius!
well done,It is really very difficult this piece of music to play fingers of one such suppleness and chopin was a Great composer thank you
Bravo!!!!
great interpretation. what fascinates me is that chopin could manage to write such intricate pieces as he does.
Very nice interpretation !!!!!!.
soo expressive!!!
He does, He is, no doubt. Great pianist !
Great version.
Nice... Very good interpretation.
Yes. Especially on the first part. i also immediately thought
it sounded like water flowing over pebbles in a stream.
from heaven.
I agree with you GospelAccording2ME, his interpretion is MAGNIFICENT! Bravo!!!
Such a talent with a welcomed unique approach.

Marvelous Bunin!!!
Splendido.......
Electro Fantasy.... I like it!!!!
I always thought my own interpretation was a stretch from the standard. But now Bunin reassured me my interpretation is good, and it was quite a surprise when I realised how closely our interpretations resembled each other, having just found about this extremely underrated pianist after playing fantasie impromptu for four years now.
The feeling is really good. o.O
This video shows why bunin won the chopin competition
THIS... IS... BRILLIANT... no EXTREME BRILLIANCE
Wonderful. Big.
This is Bunin's forte. He is popular in Japan because of his utter mastery of this piece.
Bunin is a master of Chopins work. Check him out...
Yes, interesting use of rubato indeed. I'm not so sure I like it though. Great interpretation anyway.
One of my favorite parts about Fantasie Impromptu is the fact that it can be interpreted in so many different ways.
Wanderful!!!!!!
omg :D
love it... my second favourite interpratation after ashkenazy's
from 1:10 to 1:16
This part is often played by left hand only.
Using both hands is what I've once thought of , but I've never tried because I didn't know anyone who did so.
Flexibility...
Anyway I like how Bunin put color on this piece.
Nice!

mükemmel perf...bravoo
This is like Chopin it would have played.
Delight!
It's for both, pretty much if it's public domain it's there.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
