    Hi Tony.
    Is it possible to use solidworks motion to put force on the top of a piston and read the torque off the crank of a single cylinder engine at a set degree angle of the crankshaft. This way I could plot the torque from a cylinder pressure graph.
    Could you put up a tutorial if that is possible. Regards Roger

    Hello, I am currently doing a motion analysis very similar to this. I have set up the motor in the same manner that you show here in the video and the angular velocity graph is correct. However when I create an angular acceleration graph the values are far too high. Have you ever come across this and if so how did you get around the issue!
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

    Hi Jack,
    This comment is not being allowed to be posted as a reply to your post so I am doing it near/above your own.
    We see stuff like this all the time in our technical support team but it is not generally a bug in the software but an issue in the Motion Study setup itself. There is not simple answer for me to post here for you but I would strongly recommend that you contact your VAR on this so they can help to investigate the cause of your odd acceleration values.

    Hiii sir, your video is too good... from this we can calculate torque required to ratate any object in air..... but how can we calculate the torque if my object is submerged in liquid.... plz reply..

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  3 года назад +1

      If you need to do this by hand, look up “drag torque”. The increased viscosity of the fluid would cause more drag or shear on the surface of the model, and those terms would need to be included in your calculation.
      If you’re using SOLIDWORKS simulation programs, use Flow Simulation. www.goengineer.com/videos/solidworks-flow-simulation-webinar-rotating-regions/

    How to add gear ratio parameter in it.?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  4 года назад +1

      Thank you for the feedback and your question! Though this specific tutorial does not feature this functionality, you will want to add a GEAR MATE to your SOLIDWORKS model (gear ratio is included with this mate type) and SOLIDWORKS Motion will solve this as a rotational coupling between the components. Searching ‘gear mate solidworks’ should help get you started with adding this mate.

    Hi there! What is the difference between animations, motion analysis and basic motions?

  • @mrrohan6396
    @mrrohan6396 3 года назад

    Hey,
    How can we show the function builder in the animation? Because that tab only shows when we are trying to edit a motor. Can we show it in animation aswell or only in motion analysis?

    • @goengineer

      The Results plots Tony begins building around 6:18 are only available with Motion Analysis - available as an add-in with SOLIDWORKS Premium or Simulation Standard license.

    In my case I have a large sub assembly that needs to be rotated, can I use this same set-up even though the assembly is not symmetric like this drum is?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  5 лет назад

      Hi Hello World,
      This Motion study setup for torque should work even if the assembly is not symmetric. If the model is able to spin it will be made to spin with an applied torque.

      GoEngineer does solidworks realize that there is material assigned to the parts? I’m wondering if I need to input a force at the center of mass or not or if it calculates all of that itself?

    How did you set up the mates between he frame and the cylinder? I cant the cylinder to rotate

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  2 года назад

      Hello and thank you for your question! You are correct in changing the default outer wall thermal condition could possibly make the model setup more accurate. In this case we left it as adiabatic since it will help decrease calculation time and resources for my very first run of this project, eliminating heat transfer from the outer walls. Also, it is a best practice to keep your flow project setup as simple as possible at first and then begin to add more accuracy and detail to the model and setup. Another thought is that one could also locally apply all our thermal conditions manually to the model in the project design tree and any outer walls that are not specified will be assumed to be adiabatic. I hope this helps!

    7:07 why the torque and power consumption drops down to the zero after 12 sec. ? did you applied gravity and the friction between the joints?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  3 года назад +1

      Correct, around 4:50 you can see a good view of the tree. No gravity is applied, nor is Contact - where we could apply friction between moving bodies. Friction could also have been set up between mates, but that also was not done in this video. The hand calculations did not include gravity or friction, so the study did not either.

      While we don't have a video showing that exact situation the steps used in this analysis should also be able to be applied to gears.
